Is there an easy way to create a regular (sinusoidal) wavy line in Xara?
(... as described in http://www.seqair.com/WildTools/Wavy/Wavy.html)
I may not know how to do this, but I'll bet there are people here who do. I almost had a heart attack when I looked at the price of the Wild Tools software...$249 for the stripped-down version, $1,205 for the full version.
Considering the skills of the people in this forum, it would be hard to predict who the first one with the correct answer will be, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a tutorial posted on this subject very soon:) .
I'd like to know how to do this myself, so I'll keep watching this thread!
Good luck...

Noel...
I'm just a beginner at Xtreme, but I actually figured out how to create a sinusoidal wave: I dragged down two parallel guide lines from the rulers, then dragged a series of vertical lines at the spacing I chose.
Next, I used the Shape Editor Tool and clicked on "Curve" on the tool bar.
Then I clicked at the bottom beginning point, the top point, bottom, top...
The tool automatically generated the curve.
And, since it is a vector object, you can modify the frequency and amplitude easily!

How's this:
Wolfmoon and Pauland - very many thanks - just what I was after. :)
Is it possible to combine this with a new brush design?
Noel,
Like most things Xara there's more than one way to skin a cat.
1: Utilities/Options/Grid & Ruler
2: Set the Grid major spacing to 50 pix and subdivisions to 1
3: Window/Show Grid & Window/Snap to Grid
4: Select the Shape Editor tool and set the type to Curve & join to Smooth
5: Just click away near the grid and instant sinusoidal curve
You should delete the first and last points as these aren't sinusoidal.
Nice job Egg. Doh!
Another solution:
Create a brush (together with some fine tuning at the brush spacing settings).
The attached drawing isn't a sinusoidal wave, but another example of the Wavy Line Tool from the link above.

Remi
Noel...
Once you create the line, you can use any brush you want for it. Just click on the brush tool. Here is a version using the rope brush from a tutorial in the Workbooks.
Egg...As always, your explanations are clear, easy to follow and highly informative. I actually subscribed to YouTube just because of your videos!
Remi...Your brush is WAY cool. I've been trying to think of a way to create a good Greek key pattern, and you have already done so.
I've actually worked my through all the tutorials in the workbooks, and learned a lot from them, but the things I am learning in these forums are the icing on a very good cake!
Thanks, all...

You're welcome, Will.

Cheers Will
I blended two line segments then broke the blend apart, aligned the segments, joined the segments and converted line to curves, etc.

Gary...
This really looks cool...like a neon rainbow. Wish I know how you did it... hint!

Will
Gary,
Really impressive.... but I too would be very grateful for a bit more info on how you did it.
Noel
Well, I joined the lines (Arrange > Join Shapes), increased the outline width, using the Freehand and Brushh Tool applied a tapered stroke shape, converted the line to shape (Arrange > Convert Line to Shape, then applied a red to red Linear fill and selected Alt Rainbow from the Fill Effects drop down.
I made a bitmap copy of the colored line, True Color (no alpha) and edited the bitmap in Xara Picture Editor adding blur (by adjusting the Blur/Sharpen slider in the Enhance dialog (Ctrl e).
I displayed the grid and did a screen capture of the grid (Shift Print Screen). Pasted the grid back into exreme. Applied the gird portion of the bitmap to the rectangle and sent it to the back.
Finally I duplicated the grid filled rectangle and brought it to the front and applied a Flat, 60% Stained Glass transparency.
I think that is all the steps. Funny, it did not seem like so many steps when I did it :o
Gary
WolfMoonHP, I wish you hadn't created that "rope." I made the mistake of copying it onto my 'puter. Soon afterwards, it multiplied by dividing. Then one of the segments turned into a parasite and is eating my tomato plants.
Hahaha. Just make sure you keep those creepy larva away from that dog or you'll REALLY have problems!
Thanks, Gary...
I followed your steps and achieved a measure of success...At least I now understand the concept, and managed to get the rainbow fill, even though my line was not quite as smooth as yours.
But even with my less than stellar creations, I learn more and more. I think I am just now beginning to get a feel for how much I still have to learn.
You newer members should never say worms or eyeballs!

Skinning this cat my way... using a blend to help lay it out.
