cant find menu

Hi all Hope you can help me.
I bought the full version of webstyle and am trying to use the menumaker in it.
I succesfully create the menu, link the page, resize it, change colors, etc save it and when I put it into dreamweaver it works no problem, the problem is when I put it up on the server, it cannot for some reason be seen, Do I need to use the Target frame,.......option not sure
The header I made for www.irishwebcreations is there as well as other things just not the buttons, any ideas...........
hopefully it is something dsimple as I really like using this program , thanks for your help:confused: :confused:

Your link does not work. I suggest you check your source code it may be calling your buttons etc from your hard drive not your website. perhaps you may care to post your html code or remake your link.

Yes, as I thought, your stuff is being called from you hard drive i.e.(="Layer1"><img src="../../Desktop/WEBDESIGN2/IRISH_WEB.gif" editor=")

instead of your website.You will have to correct this. I cannot give you the path etc cos only you know the address of your website etc. at least that's what my poor old tired brain thinks. I'm off to bed maybe someone else will show the way.

Sorry Dave my brain seems to have seized up. Have you no pals nearby who know about html coding? I know how to correct your code to point it to the
correct place in your server but cannot for the life of me explain how to do it.
I have attempted to change your code as you will see, the reference to the src= does now not point to your desktop it should find the files on your server that is if you uploaded them to your personal web page.Did you?
also I am floundering a bit here OLD AGE no doubt. Can you send the file as a .html to me I cannot for some reason convert the source file you sent me my editor does not allow me to save it as an html file. Or better still is there not some more knowledgeable person out there can come to our rescue. It would have been better if you had posted this in the webstyle forum as well.Dave. phew!

Hi

Your issue I suspect is with your path structure within your site definitions.

So first what version of DW are you using?

second check your site definition

Are your links relative to document or site root

(Ok at the risk of treating you like ...

on thetop bar select site---- manage sites then select your site and proporties- it's half way down

If you have selected site root then thats your problem select relative to document.

If thhat doesn't work post me a url and I'll help you sort it.

Hello daveball, first of all let me correct your website link: it's http://www.irishwebcreations.com/ (you forgot the .com).

To correct your source you just need to refer it to the relative place on your computer or server.

For example. Lets say your website is stored inside a directory called website.
In that directory you have the index.html file. If you put your menu there you would refer it by it's name, i.e. your image name is menu.gif you would refer to it as menu.gif.

If you have a subfolder named menu (i.e. you have the website folder, inside of which you have the index.html, then you have the subfolder called menu in which you have the menu.gif file).

In that case you'll refer (from the index.html) that menu.gif file the following way: src="menu/menu.gif"

Everything is relevant to your main html (index.html), so if you have the files put at the same directory the index.html is, you simply type the name of the file. If your file is stored in your subfolder you put the name of the folder i.e. subfolder/filename.filetype

Thanks for your help, its www.irisjwebcreations.com , I have placed the banner and A logo which are coming up fine, there should be a nav bar to the left, looked for site properties, could not find site properties at all:( .
Not sure what Im doing wrong buts it s strange that the banner ads and logo come up fine, hoiipe u can help, man ythanks:D

when I am saving the menu in the save graphic option, where abouts should I save it.
I am using DW8 and am relatively new to it, so sorry if I am a bit slower thn m,ost in realising my mistake.
Still have not got anywhere with it, where do I changethe path to the file in the HTML or somewhere else, is there a way of saving the menu lke the banner qand logo and it will save it so it will appear when I upload it on the server, sorry again but I appreciate you r help.:confused:

Your very good, many thanks, I haved changed the site properties so that the links are saved in the site root but this has done nothing, is this a popular mistake people are making as its not so obvious.

Within your site definition in Dreamweaver 8

select link relative to document that makes the link relative to the document on the screen.

I'm assuming you have used the Dreamweaver extension to insert the webstyle object from within your dreamweaver page.

So in the example I sent you ifI delete the code you are not interested in you get

img src="Irish_Web.gif" editor="Webstyle4" moduleid="irish (Project)\Irish_Web.xws" border="0" />

this tells the browser that the graphic irish_web.gif is in the same directory as the html file calling it.

Same again -

Again it is saying that the broweser will look for since_2003.gif, xaramenu.js and menu.gif at the same leval as the html file.

You change this when you exit webstyle because it asks you where you want to save the document because it asks you where you want to save it.

create a directory and unzip the file I sent you and look at the code and file location

Hope this clears the mud a bit.

sorry to annaoy u but I hav had no luck.
Why is it that if I save the banner and logo to the same file location they appear when uploaded to the server they appear only when I sasve the nav bar that wont appear, and the end of my tether here.
I know Im going to kik myself when I finally cop on .
Do i now have to g ointo the code menu in and change it phyciacally or can I just change the place in which I save the file, Im new to dreamweaver so Im not that confident in changing it, thanks agin hope u can help again, cheers:confused:

It's not a bother, We all get these problems I'm ok on html but graphics yuk!

Anyway I've just robbed the poor and given to the rich and I'm about to win 30million on the lottery!. No begging letters please

Lets cut to the proverbial quick as they say and get this sorted.

Go to your site folder ie the folder where all your files are. Zip it up and email it to me.

I wonder why your code is so messy... try linking your css into an external file (ask me if you don't know how). If you've seen in my tutorial I get only 1 line of code, not more... maybe you've messed with the "guts" of your code?

EDIT: If you still mess up zip your website and post it on the forum (considering it's less than 1MB file).

Edit 2: Yes you have to change your HTML if you want to put your menumaker files in a different folder.

Hi again I have attached the file for my website in zip file.
I have a few differant things in the webpage , which i s a banner and a logo, maybe its so messy as I am usig layers.
I am sure I am doing things right but obviousley I am not , its very frustrating, maybe it will jump out when U see the files , many thabnsk:D

In your code you are still calling a local file as in the line

So when you upload contact_us.gif and contact_us.js are not there. I would suspect that is where youjavascript error is coming from. You must get this path error correct as you have elsewhere.

As an aside a layer is just a div. Using them is for many a contentious area with some designers advocating tables and other divs either can be controlled using css scripts. Personally I use whatever is appropriate for the job.

I would suggest that you go back to basics and get one element working at a time rather than build on something that has errors.

Well yes, at some point it will scroll down (it's automatic), so when you put an image, press Enter, put another one etc eventualy it will get you a scroller bar.

Are you in need of creating an online forum gallery? Rather good idea now that you mentioned it :)

Dave, your code is completely messed up, I've patched it up for you a bit, but you seem to either have messed something or you don't have all the images.

This subject was already mentioned somewhere before: It will be much quicker to learn HTML and CSS than use any WYSIWYG editor. It will also give you better results.

Personaly, I wouldn't ever use webstyle or any other WYSIWYG software.

Grab a book, take 2-4 days off and you'll be a CSS pro. That's about the time you've already wasted on trying to figure out how to put the menues on.
I say it out of personal experience.

The software is a good helper but NOT a website builder. Don't expect it to make a site for you. You can use it to create menues and layouts but you'll have to know how to adjust a code.

Anyhow, here's your file, the menues appear (notice I put back your xara.js file in your images folder) but it's still messed up.

Have to say I agree,

I use Dreamwaver all the time and from my point of view the WYSIWYG is very usefull but it does not replace some basic knowledge about HTML.

CSS is a stage up the ladder and is very usefull"

As for webstyle I have itand use it as a source for graphics and design ideas I'd never use it a site designer.

I am using the trial version of menu maker and it is working fine, its only when I use webstyle and then nav nenus that I am getting the problems, any ideas could it be a problem in webstylr menu part of the program, have a look www.irishwebcreations.com , many tyhanks:D :D :D :D

I don't see any menues on your website.

I don't think it has to do with the trial version. The menu maker generates a clean code (I've explained and showed you earlier) so I think it's up to you to input the code inside your site.

Hi

As far as I was aware the webstyle software contains the menumaker program so why use both.

I've never used menumaker but there could be a conflict between the two peices of software. You'd have to ask on the webstyle forum but I think I read that the two are not compatible
