What does your Avatar picture mean?
Hello everyone! After the desktop topic, I got curious about what does the Avatar picture represent? And why did you choose it to represent your character?
For me, since I cannot see the person and his facial gestures, it is the first impression. If he/she has a smiling cartoon or a cute puppy he seems to me as a nice person.
What do you think? Why did you choose your avatar and does it have special meaning?
Mine is an Eagle:
http://www.talkgraphics.com/image.ph...ine=1124734984
It is a vector drawing traced from a photo. I love animals and especialy birds, since they are free to fly wherever they want. When I was a kid I had to climb several kilometers to the top of a mountain (it was a trip with school). It was very steep and we had to use ropes. I saw eagles and other birds flying about... just cruising the air lazily, not heeding the cliffs or us below. This fascinated me I am sure it will be something I will remember a long time.
Birds do not have state borders, stop signs, streets or restricted areas :)

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Interesting subject for a thread. I see where you are coming from. Alas, my avatar animal doesn't soar like an eagle but raids garbage cans. However, they can be as cute as hell. :D

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Ringtail, your avatar is cute. We have one of those animals where I work as a security guard, but it won't let us near it 30 meters it runs away.
Intbel, why not post a picture of yourself for a change?

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Always a cool topic :)
Mine is a character I feel like at times...
Features a well muscled arm growing from the temple, which reaches out to scratch my forehead when I am amazed by something or another... ;) :D
Basically, I was comparing the responce/feel of the warp tool in PI, to those related tools found within a whole host of other apps... at the time we were working with a baby 266 celeron, 128 megs of ram, and the responce times of various tasks within certain solutions was a very interesting study... the painting fun was pure bonus :D

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
My avatar image is a photo from my old drivers license (about 5 or 6 years ago). I had long hair then and wore it pulled back in a pony tail. It was long enough I sat on it quite often which became a problem when moving my head :D
Hair cut is much shorter now and more gray :(
Although I'm quite proud of each gray hair, I earned each one :)

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Mine's inspired by the "Dummies guide..." series .
Which would reveal a lot about me and my IQ level...:D

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
If I had a webcam and you could see me working on the computer, this is what you'd likely see. Note the intense, serious, somber glare and those piercing observant eyes. Would you let this person work on your photos?

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
I use a photo of me because it looks like me. :) Actually I just changed the avatar to a newer photo of me. Taken just last week on my digital camera at work. I used to have a long pony tail just like Soquilli.
We finally get to see Raymond here... :)

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Mine doesn't really represent anything other than the fact that I wanted something that I had drawn but didn't have time to do anything fancy.
I like the color blue and quick shapes and bevels are quick to manipulate.
One day, I will spend the time to create something a bit more personalized.
Eric
[edit] Ok... So this got me to thinking and I changed it....[edit]

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
My Avatar is actually a picture of me, at the Florida Renaissance Faire. The beard is real. I'm working on the Gandalf/Dumbledore look.

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Mines just a signature I've used for years. I used to carve a small one into the Bridge woodwork of every ship I sailed on. Pure vanadlism! I couldn't animate it though.

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Mine is a picture of me as a really nice, smiling person. But if you look close, you'll notice two cats ears on my head. Just to indicate that I can be cunning too...:D

You can, you did, but your first frame is set at 1000 cs!
Watch your logo as it is long enough and it winks ...
I changed the first frame to to fifty cs ...

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Mine is my own eye. I actually have two eyes but my Avatar is the eye I use when I'm on the Internet. I typically wear an eye patch over one eye all through the day. Which eye gets used depends on what I'm doing. At night when I'm sleeping, and times when I'm driving, are the only times I use both eyes. I do the driving with both eyes for safety reasons. I've tried sleeping with the eye patch on but I had really disturbing dreams. The nightmares stopped when I stopped wearing the patch. I think the patch may have been restricting some eye movement during REM sleep and that in turn was messing with my mind.
Some other time I'll tell you about my ear plugs.

It means I am not inventive enough to think up something other than a headshot.

Heheh! Right. Sorry about that.
Hmmm ... animated carvings ... noted in my new ideas book.

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
I switched my animated "goofy me" / "silly me" avatar bacause it was getting old... My current avatar is a snippet from my "nipple ring gollum" : http://www.ristoklint.com/picture-ga...res/gollum.htm Picked it out because it's one of the more expressive "non faces" that I have done.
I will change it soon for an upto date real-life picture, just need to shave my "almost half a beard" and comb my hair... :) The "real-life" pictures are more personal I think.

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Mine was a cartoon kid version based on myself. But I was starting to grow tired of it - seeing others update or change their Avatar every now and then, I decided to change mine as well.
Reading, Risto's plans, I decided to use a photo as well - same one I used for my feature artist thingie.
So now my Avatar means, "that's what I look like." :)
(old Avatar)

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Well, it seems everyone is updating their avatars, so I will update mine as well, maybe with my actualy face?
BTW: "Avatar" according to Hindu legend is a god recreated into a human, and it was my nickname prior to "Availor" but it soon vanished because too many people use this word (especially now), out of it's acutal (for me) meaning.
Any one of you played the Ultima series? Pagan, Britannia etc....

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
I went with a real mug av once not so long ago, then chose to go back to showing a grfx mug instead...
I kind of really enjoy the "artistic expression" shown with so many user avatars... it's an artform of it's own really :)
This is an grfxart board right?
Now a " Show a picture of yourself " thread is another story all together...
Say no to the trend of boring, uninspired, personal shots... nothing personal :p
just another one of my humble opinions :D
(Bob, I really liked your toon av... and will miss it very much... psst, never too late to say no to boring trends ... :D )

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Well , I kind of enjoy seeing what the other memebers here really look like.
I always get to see their artwork in the posts. But it is nice for me to be able to put a face with the name of a person.
For the first time in this thread I have seen Raymond and now after years, I get to see what Bob looks like too!
Here's looking at ya! :)

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
The reason I chose my avatar, is because it is the funniest animation character in my first full length animation video, though you cannot hear him laughing, his jaw is meant to move up and down...in silent laughter. The character he plays is the angel of death, but more like that part of our future about which we cannot forsee...I plan to change it to something a little more cheerful...but what really tickled me, was when my son chuckled to himself when he saw the character laugh...it is not meant to be frightening or sinister, it is animation after all.

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Mine is my gnurf alter ego. Compared to the "standard" gnurf I have three curly hairs, as in real life (like in curly hair, not three hairs). I used a gnurf as my gnurf characters are something of a trademark of mine. It is in black & white as I usually do my artwork with black ink on white paper.
And I am smiling, which makes me a nice happy person :)

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
One picture worth a thousand words! My small picture is from that very own day. I'ts my graduation day from the NLP marketing courses. The lecturer is a former soviet KGB agent captain (yup that's right), who later became NLP coacher for companies and businessmen. Anyway, it's a pretty darn serious fellow with a (very) rich past "practice" in his life.... It's an official graduate... everyone goes in turn, he shakes their hands and give them the diploma.
Now I come in, he reaches his hand for an official handshake... and... Just look at his expression, his right hand still in the air! I can't hold my smile even now when I see his face, he sure did not expect that to come :D:D:D:D

Congratulations Availor!
I have a vague idea what NLP marketing is. As a new graduate how would you describe it?

Re: What does your Avatar picture mean?
Hmmm take a look in HERE
It's about presenting yourself and seeing what the other person wants so you can persuade him for your benefit. It's about body language and "feeling" the person that is in front of you.
For example: If I want to sell a car to a mechanic I will not go and tell him how beautiful it looks, but I'll go through the details. If I speak to an artist for example, I will try and "draw" him the "picture" of what I'm trying to tell him. I will not get into little details because he isnt interested in them. The skills are how to review the person and see what suits him most and mimic his speach/body language.
One of the techniques is doing the unexpected. You won't expect someone to get naked and jump all over - you'll be shocked and lose your concentration. That was the last lesson. It's useful in some cases. Bosses use this technique without noticing it. If you go to your boss asking for a raise, he can start laughting and telling you jokes, or screaming at someone on the phone. You'll get distracted and will probably leave to wait for a better time.
In the military the shouting is good for that matter. If a higher rank officer screams all over you forget what you want.
We've all tried to "shock" the coacher trying to prove him what we've learned. One thing he did not expect is for someone to hug him. Looks pretty shocked now isn't he? :D

No they try to make your question ridiculous, they get the laughers
on their hand, you just wait until the laughing stops and ask
the question again, then they usually admit that they didn`t know
the answer and you had to ask such and such.
They didn`t like me there, believe me. ;)
