Compiled list of freebies
These are links to plugins, most of which are free (some pages have free ones alongside ones they charge for). These are the result of following many links and doing some searching of my own to come up with free plugins for those of us who want to try something new or who can’t afford to buy everything nice out there! They are in no special order and this list is made from the plugins that I’ve already tried in Xara Xtreme. Enjoy!

Ok, I couple more I missed...
DSBflux from here http://www.angelfire.com/linux/pip_plugins02/
Vividia from here http://www.cybia.co.uk/finalimpact.htm - this is a freebie in the midst of a plugins that cost, but it's a very good plugin for adjusting color in a photograph, etc.

You the man, Craig.
Thanks for these. I will have to sit down tonight and go through em.

Re: Compiled list of freebies
Hi Craig
Funny thing happened on the way to the forum this morning. Anyway, I went to your last link "heavendreams" and guess what I found, Eye Candy 3 and a free download to boot. I have admired and wanted to buy eye candy for about 7 or 8 years, so I jumped at it. The humour part? Well, when you install eye candy 3, it unlocks eye candy 4000 that came with exteam. That's right children, you get to use all the filters, but with a draw back....when you try to save the effect in Xara, you are told that you can only save three effects, basically the same as now, but not the same effects. You loose the chrome and got marble, etc, etc.
The good side, you can create an effect in eye candy 3, save it to Xara, then try the same effect in eye candy 4000 and while you can't save it you can compare the two. They don't in my books......the results with e.c. 4000 seem far superiour to e.c.3, mind you I was concentrating on fire and chrome, plus you have two extra filters. Seeing the results and seeing how eye candy keeps changing their sites and the program you can download or buy, I finally decided to make the big jump and buy the plug in offered by Xara. Even in Canadian dollars it is still a good deal and for all I know next year it may not be available. Must warn you though. I am running an old 466 celeron under windows 98 with 191 mgs of ram and while the machine is perfect for my needs and will not be replace for some time yet, the filters are very heavy for it. Looking at most the screen shots on the forum it seems everybody else is running newer machines using win x.p. Actually when you download, the specs demand at least a P 2, but I took my chances and if and when I do upgrade I still own Xtreme and the filters so they can be transfered.
By the way, if somebody else does go the same route, you will find that after buying e.c. 4000 you will have to delete e.c. 3 since if you keep both of them, everytime you use version 3 then try 4000, 4000 turned into a demo again, at least on my machine.
Re: Compiled list of freebies
Interesting, will have to check it out! :)
Re: Compiled list of freebies
I downloaded the free Eye Candy, but it did not unlock the version that came with Xtreme :(
Re: Compiled list of freebies

Re: Compiled list of freebies
I hate to be a wet blanket, but some of these seem like free downloads of commercial software.

Re: Compiled list of freebies
When I posted this, another person followed up the post with another post that linked to AAA filters, thanks for the update. :)
Some of the links are to sites that offer some plugins for free and others you have to pay to get. And of course a lot of sites I've seen allow you to download demos so you can try the plugins, which I think is great so you can make sure they work with your program (Xtreme). I've purchased some plugins, but can't afford to purchase hundreds of dollars worth. I use them personally... if I ran or was employed by a business of some kind and made money from work I do (involving plugins), I'd make investments buying several plugins, etc. I think the eye candy plugins look great, but I can't justify the purchase (nor afford it) for myself personally. I realize a lot of people that post in talkgraphics are people who do graphics for a living, but I posted this for people like myself, who use this software personally and for a stepping stone of learning more about graphics, but can't afford to go out and buy the latest and greatest plugins that are offered. That's just where I'm coming from... :)
Re: Compiled list of freebies
Hi Craig,
I don't wish to cast stones at you. I agree that Eye Candy is expensive, and it is the reason I don't use it personally myself. I also have some disagreements with the way copyright law is used.
I wrote some software that a large corporation used illegally, forcing me to take action to recoup losses. I also compose music and recently released a CD of my compositions that is a fundraiser for the uncompensated care fund for Children's Hospital in Seattle. Although people all over the world have bought copies, many have made illegal copies, depriving desparately ill children of need funds. So I am a bit sensitive about this.
Your list contained many free plugins that are worthwhile, and I myself have used many of them. It's just that when such links are posted here, TalkGraphics itself is put in jeopardy because it must either delete those links or risk being sued. This creates an unfortunate atmosphere in this very friendly and helpful place.
Perhaps you and others will reconsider posting such links in the future.

Alan

Hmm do you mean there are funny copyright issues with eyecandies
plug ins?

Euh? If the manufacturers provide them for free themselves
there wouldn`t be a problem , would there?

Hi Ankhor,
You found some parts of my post where I was not clear. Thanks for bringing them up. :)

Both Eye Candy and SuperBlade Pro are protected by copyright. Several links posted had "free" download links for Eye Candy, as well as SuperBlade Pro and Blade Pro. It was those I was referring to.

I should have formulated that much differently. What I meant to say is that although many of the plugins on several of these sites are free, there were some links to commercial plugins. It was those links that I was concerned about. I should have been much clearer.- You wrote:

That, of course, is quite correct. Once again, I was referring to links to unauthorized software.
I should have been more careful in the way I formulated my message. Thank you for bringing these errors to my attention, which gives me the opportunity to express my views more cogently.:D

Re: Compiled list of freebies
I appreciate your clarification on this... when I posted the links, I had certain plug-ins in mind and didn't pay attention to other places the links could take you... (apologies) I hope this makes sense. The ones I posted were ones offered for free by various sites. I appreciate those that offer free things like this for those who cannot afford to pay lots of $, and as well if I use 'free' plugins from a certain company and am impressed, I may be more inclined to purchase plugins they charge for. Of course if I won a lottery and got stinking rich, I'd just buy them all and not worry about a thing--- Ok, back to reality. :D
Re: Compiled list of freebies
Thanks for responding Craig. I very much appreciate the spirit of your words. As I said before, I don't want to cast stones or be judgmental.
One might want to think twice about posting links to unauthorized software. It is one thing for one individual to do it. However, it is another thing for such links to appear on a public place, as this actually does put the forum into some legal jeopardy in many jurisdictions.
You can download a trialware version of SuperBlade Pro (and many others too) legitimately. After the trial, you pay $30 for it. The guy who wrote it is a one-man operation and, I am sure, is not rich. He is a great guy who supports his software. I also am a not-rich guy who has had some of his stuff "borrowed," as I mentioned in a previous post.
Eye Candy is very expensive, and it is the main reason I do not use it.

Alan
