You have to use the Tell Target command to call the level of the movie. In this case, it will be Level 0.
Try this:
On Release
Begin Tell Target ("_level0")
Go To and Play ("whatever")
End Tell Target
End On
Good luck
how do you know which scene it goes to? it seems to go to the first scene when i do that, but i dont want the first scene. i never really did understand tell target crap
You should be able to specify the marker, so you could set a marker in the original movie which then has a frame action to go to the appropriate scene. It's roundabout, I know, but it works. I'd just tack on a few extra frames to the end of scene one, and in each frame:. Then you can use the Tell Target to go to the appropriate marker, which will then cause the jump to the appropriate scene. There's gotta be a quicker/easier way to do this, but this is the first workaround that pops to my head. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help!!!
- give it a marker, and
- give it a frame action of "Go To and Play (whatever scene you want here)"

Label a frame in Level 0 that has the Go To and Play action to the scene you want. Make your Tell Target action Go To and Play that label.
How do you know what level it is: i.e. _level0
What if you want one movie to talk to another movie within the same scene or from one .swf files to another...
one swf files loads a movie on top of it and I want them to talk to one another ...how do I do this?

Each time you load a movie, you have to define the level it's on. That's what you're referencing when you say _level0 or _level1, etc. Just make sure you keep track of what you're loading onto which level, and then reference them correctly. The initial movie is always loaded on level 0, then usually (by default) movies load on each subsequent level (at least, this was the default way back when - I haven't tested this in a while - Bill, have there been changes?) Just keep track which level the movie is on that you want to control, and then call that level.

Is the Level defined by the Instance?
Where do you define the level.
I have:
Main Movie
----------------/Movie 2 (On top of Movie 1) (a menu)
-----------------/buttons (to places on map)
----------------/Movie of Button of Movie A (bottom Level) (a map)
-----------------/Button of Movie A (to drag map)
-------------------/Movie A (frames to show location highlight)
I need the buttons on the menu (Movie 2) to talk to frames within Movie A
how can I do this...I have tried alot of different methods but non are working
Thanks

are you talking about seperate movies, or just movie clips? if you're talking about movie clips, just target the instance name of the movie clip (like, for example, if you called movie clip a "myClipA" then you'd target "/myClipA"
when we say seperate movies, we're talking about seperate swf files - is that what you mean? or do you just mean movie clips?

actually I did mean movies (seperate .swf files)
but since then I combined them into one (menu) (map)
then have one movie (.swf file) for the top mask that controls the zoom
I figured out my problem it was the button inside a movie clip that holds a movie clip within it...it was for the drag function but I switched the order and removed the button and it works now...
No I'm wondering if anyone knows a way that when you click on a button it goes to a frame and centers it...I can do everything but center it.
