A couple of wing patterns. Rich
Wow! Those would make really nice stained glass windows!
A copper pipe elbow map. I happened to see a few fittings at the lumber yard. The lighter areas are the celing lights. This has a bug grid ring map overay as well.

At the duck park. Still overcast here, and lots of thunder last night. Almost as loud as Mook and Kai barking at it. Rich
Macro practice. I shot these in aperature mode to get enough DOF. Rich
I've always loved ladybugs! Nice shots, Rich!...what's DOF?
amazing the difference between 16bit and 24bit true color. wow. for your ducks was seeing nothing but a black picture with strong white 'marks'. you've got a lovely pair of spring Wood Ducks, and in 'freesia' a lone male.
really sorry no sun for you yet.
nance
Thanks Nance,
I saw a few other ducks with different markings floating down the river. I wasn't able to get a shot of them. DOF Depth of Field. Closing the aperature increases the distance something is in focus. The ladybug was in a hanging flower pot, and the pot was moving. Movement and macro don't go together.
I has been in the 80's since yesterday after morning fog. More to come.
The butterfly is a map expirment. I made a non symmetrical transparent map to vary the shading across an object. There is a grid map that give an appearance of contours.
Rich
These are all fantastic!!!!
I don't want to crow Nance Buuuuuuuuuut! Taken by a pal of mine in a local park he goes there to feed them on cheese and eggs (eggs them on you might say)

A weed in macro. Rich
that weed looks pretty steady. very nice. Rich, about your butterfly map experiment #8-- that is really cool:cool: . are the 'spots' a seperate layer/map?
parahandy, do "CROW"... your creation from a friend's photo is really nice. ..... 'ee's getting lots'o protein
nance
Nance,
A butterfly I drew in E3. I selected all and applied the map to all the objects. The map transparency is offset so that there is an opacity difference across the objects. There is a second drawing with a grid map applied. I can color all objects with a map at the same time. I made the map with erase blending in EGD. I can use a PNG image to erase something under it.
Rich
ahh, one of your golf ball maps:D . thanks for the explantion. can't get expression tho till I upgrade:(
nance
The golf ball map. Rich
now that makes a great alien butterfly:cool:

Weed with a flat map. Rich
Wow! That looks like soldiers in battle. Cool!!!
v e r y SHARP mountains!!....a scene you could put your Alien butterfly in

I started seeds about two months ago. It has been too cold, and I was finally able to plant them. Along came Mook and Kai. They liked the smell of the new plants. Not too much left. Guess I have to draw flowers instead. Rich
I like these. the style of your flower painting is original--so I think. the grass in them, I wonder if you used a feather brush. feather or no feather it works.
your grass painting...I have wanted for a long time to draw/paint grass like that but never have been able to. are the grass blades a shape in vector?
nance
Nance,
The weed flowers were macro images. I did this one in pieces. The images were about 6000 points long. I drew a couple of test leaves. I made the image into a stroke and used Effect lines. The image is on its side for the stroke direction. Not perfect, but I'm working out the method.
Rich
I don't think I've asked--does expression have vector drawing, freehand, or both?
you speak here sorda like the stroke is a user defined preset shape. are stroke and p.shape the same or am I getting confused
oh, by the way -in my opinion anyway, not perfect can often be more artistic
nance
Vector and bitmap. There are strokes, but you can make your own. Strokes follow a path, and can be vector or bitmap. Grayscale image strokes shift the white to transpatent, and the gray can be colorized. EGD has pixel painting as well.
Rich
Rich got some cool pics going on here. hopefully i can find some time and brush the dust off my camera and telescope and start taking some to. like the macro with the leaves but needs some more "character". anyways great work as always
A scan of the leaf as an image stroke with variable width. Rich
A leaf with map fill and shading. Rich
grass leaves in #26 are excellant. 'non-perfect'
took awhile to see the perspective of the dandylion using the size and placement as from a noon-time position. the dandylion-flower is excellant but the shading dosen't fit with the lighting of the leaves
some type of underneath background might help with emphasizing the perspective of the weed-if that is your goal
nance
Thanks Nance,
I scanned in a piece of grass and made an image stroke. It was shaped with variable width, but didn't come to a point as much as I wanted. The image was warped into a pointed shape for a new stroke.
I may make a vector leaf stroke and try to unstructure the leaves. This may let me color the shape after drawing it in perspective. Still have a lot to learn. There is a shading map to darken the edges of the leaf. With uniform color, it appeared as a single mass.
I have lots of flower images, but too many leaves.
Rich
The leaf as a vector stroke applied to a path and unstructured. The maps were applied after unstructuring.
Rich
Looks like my lawn.........
I believe I get what your doing with the shape-strokes. you've been doing it all along, but in these grass/flower/leaves it's a little more confusing (for me anyway:p ) cause your using a one grass stalk w/leaves for one weed leaf--and if I'm understanding a blade of grass leaf for a whole mix of dandylions and their leaves. well done.
Drifter made a comment about his lawn....I've been home from Seattle a bit over a week now. when I returned it was abrubtly DRY and so little green. we've thankfully gotton moisture in the past week with frequency so it's amazing how much greener it has turned in just one week. bout time for flower planting....and dandylions

Nance,
Mook and Kai have been raiding the bean garden. Guess they won't wait for the beans to grow. They have been eating all the tender shoots. The plants in moss pots are a challenge, and Mook digs those up and runs around the garden.
It has been warm. Not much left to grow.
I did see a dragonfly today.
Laura decided to build a brick wall. So, I'm a little tierd from moving bricks.
Rich
I have been unable to do any flower planting of my own in recent yrs, and really don't have much experience as a gardner. My friends do their gardening. really wish I was able--having perrenials seems it would make things a bit easier. anyway so I'm saying not too knowledgable on the subject.......why are Mook and Kai eating the bean shoots, if you know? and don't think I'm familiar with moss potts
Nance,
Mook and Kai get green beans. If we forget, Mook lets us know. Dogs talk but in a different way. They have been on a diet after several months of rain and less activity. I think they are finding things to eat for themselves. They do like beans.
There are plant starting containers made of peat moss. Looks similar to thick paper. It was better than plastic, and they degrade into the soil.
I have been photographing an iris leaf. It should make a good image for a grass stroke.
I was making single strokes and using Effect lines to make a mass. Effect lines draw a series of a stroke between two paths. There is adjustment for spacing, etc.
Rich
A photo of an iris leaf warped into a spear shape, and made into an image stroke. The stroke was used to make a clump of grass, and exported to PNG. Then made into a new stroke. A set of paths were drawn and Effect line was applied and adjusted. This made a group of varying size and position of grasses. Rich
good clump of grass. you're getting your own library of clip art going. if that's what you want I'd suggest using that very clump for at least three different variations in the shape. probably be best best to have one set of 3clumps with same shading and lighting, and make another set of clumps with differenct shading and lighting(??)...just ideas...
have a response to Mook and Kai but it'll have to wait...
nance
Thanks Nance,
I need to make a few more variations. I made a view of an iris leaf being warped into a shape. I saved this as a PNG file and made an image stroke. As a stroke, the stroke will follow the path, and I can make width and variable width adjustments.
Rich
Is this the mesh kind of thing people were hoping Xara would get? Looks cool!
Drifter,
This is part Expression. I think all versions. So, E3.3 a free download will have the capability. This was a non time limited version form MS.
Expression doesn't have Mold capability like Xara, however.
I use Xara to mold things I need in Expression.
