First time? Looks like you been doing this all your life <grin>.
The only thing that caught my eye is that the whites of her eyes appear too white. Hair and skin tone are wonderful.
Nice job.

C'mon Steve, it's getting boring ...
Everything you do is always good or very good or outstanding. Yawn! Can't you do anything less than perfect anymore ???

Could you tell me her telephone number or e-mail address cos I would like to make contact.
She is a wee stunner!

..Steve!
I like very much different details throughout
the pic. ie- the jaw line has a suttle reflection
of the turtleneck she's wearing...and the turtleneck also shows the reflection of her chin.
I believe this emphasizes your sharp observation,
Steve.
One thing I suggest is that maybe 'feathering'
her faceline and areas of the eyes would give her
a more softer, natural appearence.
Very Good!
...cool, tonight...

Yeah, the eye whites could use a tiny bit of work, but the remainder is awesome!

Hi again Steve,
I just marveled over your image for the umptiest time and suddendly I found out that something is missing: Lower eyelashes (if this is what the're called). Lashes on the lower lid ??
Just looked into the mirror and I got them ...

Hi Steve,
You are amazing, every new post surpasses your previous posts. This portrait is fabulous. The subtle skin tones, reflections, and the hair are all superb.

Most of my Asian clients are mostly devoid of 'noticeable' lower lashes. The upper lashes are barely there unless they put on mascara. So I think that Steve got that area right just fine!!
Upon reviewing this awsome image one more time I tend to agree with Dale, the eye on the right, there is something missing, something not quite right. Either a reflection or the shape is off just a tad. Can't put my finger on it
Oh, I didn't mention in my first post, the sleavless Turtleneck she is wearing is done superbly, attention paid to how the knited lines are traveling and the softness of the texture, you could almost reach out and touch it!!
The hair is very well done but the individual hairs that you have playing a bit further back and around the face look too gray to me. Stark white highlights or dress it up and make them looked professionally highlighted by using a blueish red color, like an eggplant color with a few more burnt orange hair mixed in, which is a color scheme that many of my Asian clients enjoy. Doesn't wash the face out and those sorts of colors look right on the Asian woman. Orange and Blonde hightlights are TOTAL faux pas!! Give it a try and see what you think. It's your piece but, from what I gather from the composition, you want it too reflect todays woman and believe me, today's woman does not, for the most part, like gray hair!!
PS: Wolfgang, did ya notice those lips?? Those are kissable lips Wolfy!!!

How would you know ?? - or are you chasing my kind of woman again ??
My girlfriend is half japanese so I got to check on her lashes next weekend. She definitely got long beautiful lashes on the upper lid (and she never wears mascara) but you might be right regarding the lower lid. Never really noticed that, good thing we have a pro aboard.
By the way, yesterday we were watching "Forces of Nature" on TV together. Sandra AND my love on one evening - faboulos !!
One more thing: I am not an artist as you know and I could never paint (or draw) something wonderful like Steve. But I love your observations about Asian and other clients and their preferred color schemes.
I think knowing about such details is the difference between a great and an outstanding artist !!
... upon a second look, you ARE right on the lips Buddy

doesn't mean that I haven't at least 'tried it'! I've kissed some very pillowy "girl" lips in my day and since when does a gay man NOT have taste in women?? I've got very good taste, ala Sandra!! If I were straight I would more than likely go for an Asian or Black woman, I like exotic. But I also like the looks of cultured but layed back White girls too!! And NO, I don't like furry women!!
I've been at the hair buis. for over 22 years, trust me I have a pretty good handle on hair at this point. I aslo used to do female impersonation so I HAD to learn makeup, which you learn to pay attention to women to get ideas about who looks over done, who looks natural, who looks like a...never mind.......I won't go there!!
You and Sandra and your love all in one weekend.........sigh..........got to get me a love life!!

I was serious when I said I love your observations on colors and hair. Of course you see it from a different point of view. Just like I might see advertising different from you.
And knowing about these things will help you greatly if you try to draw them ...
Anyway, I prefer woman who don't wear makeup, or at least very little of it. I just don't like the taste ...

Your skills and talent is growing very fast! I like the hair and reflection of skin tones on the sweater.

... hot! And *such* green eyes!
The hair looks amazing and the neck of her sweater makes her look so delicate and feminine.
Ahhh! I will have such (should write "sweet") but I'm always brutally honest so I'll write "great" dreams tonight...

Sorry for the delay in response, but I've been working on our last weekend of Les Mis (2nights our last night ) And tons of other stuff not allowing me time to continuously work on anything. But I've been touching this up off in on.
I did my best with the eyes, took into account more reflective properties & stuff. I softened the side of the face with another, this time stronger, white glow. The eggplant colored lights really don't work with this image, it's more of a whiteroom/outside radiant white kind of feel, but I did give the hair a more saturated color so it's not mistaken for gray! I also gave the lips more of a wet glossy look, does it look alright?
I touched up other minor things too, but here's the result, let me know what u think!
oh, BTW, she's not really asian! I might have just screwed something up, but she's really Indian, FYI

Your improvements are spot on, and the hair and eyes are just fantastic now!
You have incredible talent, and I hope you continue to use it.
When you are satisfied with the final image, please post a larger version.

Steve,
Great work on the touch ups.
FYI - if you mean Indian as in someone from India then she would still be Asian. A beautiful person no matter where she is from ;-)

yea, I guess technically you're right! I just usually tend to lean towards the Jap/Chinese/Korean's when I describe a person as being asian! Thanks for the comments

There is nothing I can say, except if this is your first portrait, I can hardly wait to see the next one!
The few strands of hair falling over her face are an inspired touch and add a casual note to the image. And the way you catured the soft look of her turtleneck is nothing short of genius.
OUTSTANDING IMAGE!!!

Steve,
This is really good. Because it has a particular style considering colors, ligth and draw...simplicity.
No doubt a great, great illustration.

I'm sure this was before your time, Steve, but it sure reminds me a great deal of the work Vargus did in the Playboy mags of the 60's and 70's.
... that's a compliment : )

Thanks for all the feedback, it's soo helpfull and incouraging. Go to my Gallery (Below) to see a larger version of the girl. I posted it there so it could be in full quality and not slow down the thread here.
John, I'll have to check it our, errrr . Does he do any non-nudes?
Thanks again

.....I humbly submit a portion of one of Vargas's pictures just so Steve might see what reference was intended. My apologies to the artist for butchering his work. My only defense is the nature of the audience. Steve, you are correct it is hard to find an Alberto Vargas that is non-nude, especially during the 60s and 70s. All in the name of education.

ps. poor quality due to the nature of the web not the artists ability

Congratulation Steve.
