as usual, this image is excellent! Your talents simply amaze me. Thank you for sharing!

Vladimyr,
That really is excellent! You have an awsome skill for seeing the details.
Can you tell me, do you work from reference? Do you hand sketch the work before rendering it in Xara?
Certainly no suprize comming from you...another excellent rendering. I'm impressed more because I have been trying to create similarly lifelike renderings for an illustration project of mine and have been rather unsuccessful up to this point.
Have you descrived you technique in prior threads or better yet made any of your Xara file available for disection?
Thanks for sharing Vladimyr.
Joe
Is that you? It is a beautiful portrait. You've done a great job modeling the face - it seems to really have a third dimension. A thrill to look at. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Portrait, Vladimyr!!! Is it of yourself? I like the "lost in thought" expression!!! People here are going to be asking you to do a tutorial !!! Great work as always!!! from your talented mind and XaraX!!! Stunning.
I second Maya's request. Time for tutorial from you or did you do one for us yet???? Can't remember.
You know I am a real fan of yours. I have all your pieces in a folder to stare at when I need inspiration. Thanks for sharing

You make me laugh Valdimyr! Great work, I love the eyes.
I can picture the actor in my mind, but couldn't give you a name or a movie he's been in. But hs looks soo much like this actor I've seen before!
Steve Newport
I completely agree with the tutorial idea! I know it would take many hundred tutorials for me to come close to that standard, but I would love to know how you work Vladimyr....
Go on, teach me OB1.
Aggy.
Hi Vladimyr,
Your "Sketch" is equal to many people's life achievements. Excellent image. I'm reminded of Adrian Paul, the actor that portrayed Duncan MacLoud in the TV series "The Highlander".
I would love to see a tutorial of how you achieve such realism in your images.
Soquili
Thank you very much friends for your so kind words!
aggy - "Can you tell me, do you work from reference? Do you hand sketch the work before rendering it in Xara?" Sometime I have the previous sketch, sometime haven't. This image I made from scanned photo. This photo was the reference for this work.
Joe Skeesick - "Have you descrived you technique in prior threads or better yet made any of your Xara file available for disection?" OK, I sending this image in XaraX-source. I hope that help you to understand the my way of work.
Ross Macintosh - "Is that you? "
Soquili - "I'm reminded of Adrian Paul, the actor that portrayed Duncan MacLoud in the TV series "The Highlander"."
No :-) It was just photo of some actor JIM CAVIEZEL. I like this photo and tryed to copy it in XaraX.
Crow Haven - "People here are going to be asking you to do a tutorial "
RAMWolff - "I second Maya's request. Time for tutorial from you or did you do one for us yet???? "
aggy - "I completely agree with the tutorial idea! "
I'll try to make next picture in step by step process. Unfortunately, my English is very bad, yet I hope. But I'll try.
Risto Klint - "How long does it take you to create something like this?" I have spent about 2-3 hours at this.
Best regards.
Vladimyr.
Thats very generous of you to offer up your file like that. Its much appreciated Vladimyr.
Can't wait to see a tutorial. If you have too much trouble with the English I have a number of Russian friends that could be talked into translating things for you.
J
Another wonderful image Vladimyr. I have learned from your other posts and look forward to your "step by step" lesson too.
You English works well for me. Thanks for making the effort to do it.
Bob C.
Your explanations are good--don't worry about your English!!! We are all looking forward to your tut!!!

... "sketch" Vladimyr, the eyes are really expressive. As usual brilliant work!

awe-inspiring protrait. I think it actually qualifies as a sculpture, done in two dimensions. So expressive!
Thanks for sharing, not only the great image but the .xar file for deconstruction as well.
Glen.
Not only am I astounded by your talent, but I'm humbled by your speed. Truly amazing!
You are very gracious to allows an inside look at one of your source drawings. Thank you so much.
Don't ever apologize for your English. It should be us who apologize for our lack of Russian. <smile>
Keep up the wonderful work Vladimyr. Its a pleasure being a part of this forum with you.

Another great image Vladimyr.
I don't know how you do it?

Hello, All,
I had try to make a lesson about sketch of woman fase. If you can understand my English, you can see that on http://swm-free.mailru.com/gallery/tutorial/index_e.htm
Best regards.
Vladimyr.
That tutorial of yours is just fabulous! Your use of English is just fine, and the illustrations make the process very clear. Gary would be very wise to seek your permission to post this as a guest tutorial in the XaraXone.
I am thinking of using your portraiture technique to make Xara "sculptures" of family members and friends to give to them as gifts for special occasions, or to use on greeting cards I send them. What a wonderful technique you have devised!
Thanks again,
Glen.

... Ahhhrgh! You can SPLIT the work area in two?!?!!!! Fantastic tutorial Vladimyr! You make it look so easy! I think you inspire a lot of Xarians to push themselves to try new things.
I had no idea that you coule split the work area! Please, I can't figure it out... how do you do it?

Vladimyr, Thanks for the detailed and easy to follow instructions. Your efforts are appreciated.
Risto - What's happening is two documents are open in xara. Normally one such document fills the application window - and you can toggle between different open documents by choosing them from the 'window' menu. It looks like Vladimyr has created a seperate document for reference containing the photo. To see both at once use the 'arrange' command in the 'window' menu. If you want, you can then resize and reposition the documents by dragging.
Another interesting feature in xara is that using the 'window' menu you can create multiple views of one document. They too can be arranged in the xara application window. You can have different zooms and quality settings (ie one can be a wireframe view) for each view. Because the are views to the same document, what changes you make in one appear in the other (with the exception of zooming & the quality settings). At first I thought Vladimyr had created such views to a single document. That however doesn't allow you to see different layers in each view - hence I believe he was working with two documents. Doing so you must zoom/pan each document seperately - which shouldn't be a problem for anyone as it is perhaps the most intuitive approach anyways.

That is certainly a much easier and quicker method than doing it freehand as I have---ok people, there's no excuse now not to try it!!!
This way removes the main difficulty of getting the features right, so results will be very good.
Thanks Vladimyr for your work and efforts to bring this to us!!!

this thread desearves it Vladimyr, thank you ever so much for the tips and tricks to do a good, perspective portrait. So that's how you do it, eh??? Never even thought about that.
I am, right now, printing the tutorial out and will cherish it and use it and learn from it. Your English is just fine and totally understandable
Thanks ever so much for taking the time to do this for us
Is that Meg Ryan???
RAMWolff
Vlad,
this tutorial is amazing !!!
I got to try something like this myself ...
Thanks, thanks, thanks !!
Wolfgang
P.S. To RAMWolff: I guess it's Elizabeth Shue (The Saint, Leaving Las Vegas etc.) ...
... Ross. It had never even occured to me to do that...
That little thing saves so much aggravation! And the multipe view of a document... *sigh*
Maya - I have yet to find the "add patience" function in Xara X But yes, I will try to use Vladimyr's technique when I get a chance.
