Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
As some of you have already noticed, we’ve released a 5.1.2 update for CD versions of Xara Xtreme 5 and Xtreme Pro 5.
I won’t list all the fixes but you can find full details here. You can download it now using the Update Program option in the help menu, but note you need to have both unlocked and registered your product for this to work. And, to pre-empt the question, we’ll have a patch for Web Designer in the next few days.
Many thanks
Xara Team

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Having problems with the update. No error message or anything like that goed through the process of the splash screen which I close, then I get a please wait, then I get the info on the internet, click start download(?) I don't click view data which is being exchanged, then it starts downloading nearly 25 Megs, get message downloading programme update has been completed and I click OK. Then I get a new window opening saying searching for New Updates! which never completes.
Now before anyone says the usual! I did run the programme with Admin Rights and I did turn my Firewall Off. Anyone have ant notions on how I can get XPro 5 to see the updates or is this one for a ticket. Running Windows 7 and attached is the picture of the update screen

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
I have exactly the same problem as Albacore.
I have repeated the process a couple of times , even re-booted but still version 5.1.1.9166 CD ( Xara) Jun 26 2009 .
Any thoughts? Can we download the file from somewhere?
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
I had the error message at the beginning of the install, continued through it and had no issues whatsoever installing it.

The update is for registered and unlocked versions only, so there's no stand-alone file available to download.

To update your installation, use the “Update program” facility in the program Help menu. You need to have unlocked AND registered your program for this option work. If you haven’t, when you invoke the update option you’ll be shown the unlock/register dialog again. Make sure you register using the same email address that you used to purchase the program, because each serial number can only be registered to one email address.
One thing to watch out for is there are a number of dialogs involved with the update process, I've noticed that almost all of them will popup *behind* any currently open application so check your task bar for any hidden dialogs.
Note that an update is also now available for Xara Web Designer, following the same process as quoted above.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Thanks for the heads-up Steve. Install flawless (as was the XXP install luckily)

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Sorry got it working last night, did a reboot and it installed correctly. As Steve stated the update has many pop ups I wonder if they are all needed?

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
I have another problem: the "Designs Gallery" and "Fill Galery" do not work anymore.
Let me explain:
I am working for a company where you login as a plain user with a lot of restrictions.
To install the upgrade, I had to login as an admin. Everything went fine.
The installation was successfull and the application is working fine.
However, since I have installed the upgrade, whenever I login with my plain account (no admin rights) then the problem appears: Clicking on the "Design" and "Fill" gallery buttons is unresponsive. The galleries do not show up.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Jim, only the 'CD' versions as mentioned in post#1
Have you got your CD from Xara yet?
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Yes I have the CD but I had the program running in demo mode and then bought it online.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
You will need to install from the Xara CD which is sent to you after you buy online Jim.
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Thanks, that did the trick.
It adapted my settings too, all I had to do was define the default template again (load it and save it again as template with the 'use as default' option).
And there was that huge design gallery I was missing, I was looking at the other disc!

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Guys, i have an unusual problem here with this update.
I went for the update from within XX5 and i get a couple error windows come up. First one is a "failed to contact..." error; but XX has complete authorization to use the internet connection. This doesn't stop the download/install process though.
However... after the install is downloaded and 'completed' (not really), i get this last error window which then reverts the update completely. Check the attached image for the specific issue.
I've never seen this before and i'm not sure what it might mean; aside from the obvious.
Any thoughts? I'd like to get this update installed, it has a lot of improvements. And yes, i have the CD and installed off of it and have reg'd and unlocked the app already.
Thanks guys, i appreciate your time.

I have reported this Mark, but what language is your system set to?

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
I can't install at all :-(
I'm running windows 7 32bit and when I try to update via extremes menu the app hangs with a white box in the middle of the screen. If I kill it via the task manager I birefly get a Xara info box before that vanishes.
I've tried running as admin with antivirus off and added Xara to the firewall exceptions but no change. It is a registered CD version.
Anyone got any other ideas?

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Hi Squeaky,
At what point does the white box appear?
Does the download of the update work and the white box appear when the install begins? Or does the white box appear before a connection to Xara.com is made?
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
It happens right after I click 'Update program' in the help menu So I don't even get to the download.
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
I get the "Fail to connect" message also, but then the update proceeds normally.
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
I went through the update procedure last night and it went through to XX5.1.2.10703 flawlessly. I am using WinXP and was going from XX5.1.0.9131.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
I think this is a windows 7 issue.
@sledger: my language is set to English (Canada).
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
No problems with installing on Windows 7 64bit here Mark.
Smooth as silk ;)
Hopefully Xara will get to look at this after the w/e and have an idea for you.
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Really? No problems for you? Well... i'm not sure then where to start looking. Maybe a windows security or firewall issue?
I'll keep digging around then now knowing you had no problems with this.
Thanks sledger.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Well, I for one am not a great fan of online updates.
I prefer to have my updates close at hand.
So I used SysInternals Process Monitor to watch the Xara update process and secure a copy of the Updater.exe file before it executed and subsequently was wiped from the system.
Finders keepers.
Stephan :p
PS. I will not post the update file. I assume that would be against Magix' policies.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Just remember, you buy a license to use the software. You have no rights to the software, only the license. The Software developers have the rights to the terms of the license and by what means they deliver a free update.
Announcing how to keep an update for (even if you proclaim it's not for possible distribution to those without a license) is all very clever and smart of you but is it really necessary to show off?
Bad form.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
If I remember correctly, we customers of Xara products got an account as Magix users when Xara became part of the larger company.
If we access Magix site (with our e-mail and password) we can regularly download patches fo Xtreme and Xtreme pro, in this way we should not violate any license if we keep a copy of the patch for ourselves.

This is not currently the case.
Registered license holders of Xara branded software have access to their 'Service Center' (Via the Sign in | Register link at the top of each xara.com page) where their registered licensed is recorded along with their license details. The old Account Admin area ceased to be updated after Xtreme version 4, so there are no direct download links for newer software there.
Program updates for Web Designer and Xtreme 5 are available only from the Help>>Update program menu item within the software, as publicly noted here;

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
I downloaded the patch from Magix site, here is the page reserved to users with Login.
I received a message from Xara in April 2007, which announced:
"Expanding the horizons for Xara customers
We at Xara would like to introduce you to MAGIX, the new owners of The Xara Group.
MAGIX are Europe's leading multimedia software company for video, audio & photo software - in other words our Xara customers will now be able to benefit from a far greater range of software.
As a first introduction you'll find a copy of the MAGIX Newsletter below which includes a welcome offer especially for Xara customers, the first of many you can expect on this award winning software and only one of the benefits that Xara customers will see from this new alliance.
The MAGIX Newsletter will continue to come through to you in your national language on a regular monthly basis and we hope it will encourage you to explore the wide range of new products on offer to Xara customers. But if you decide not to take advantage of future MAGIX correspondence, you'll be able to unsubscribe from the MAGIX newslist with any issue of the MAGIX Newsletter.

I can't comment on that, Xara registered users (the majority at Talkgraphics) don't have access to the MAGIX support site as far as I know.
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
The MAGIX support site is not accessable with my Xara account username and password. However, it is accessable using my MAGIX account username and password.
Unless a person has purchased direct from MAGIX I doubt they would have access to the support site and the downloads.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Thanks Bill, it is as I surmised.
I have contacted Xara for further information regarding the differences between Xara and MAGIX in regards to the way updates are made available to their customers.
Stay tuned for an update (pun intended ;))

Given that you have basically turned this forum into TalkSledger.com, I think that is a bit rich!
-
Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Daniel, I've participated in this forum a lot longer than sledger has. I have yet to see him show off. What I have seen is Steve's extensive volunteer efforts to support other users. I'm extremely grateful to him, to Bill, to Egg and to Gary for all their contributions to this community.
Around here, we're about community support. Showboating isn't part of the agenda. :)

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
(Meanwhile back at the ranch)
I'm having the same problem as Squeaky, I'm on Windows 7 and just get the same blank white box anyone found a fix?
Sorted!
Left it for 10 mins, hit esc key, the blank window then turned into a "please wait window", left that for 5 mins hit enter, it started to download the file, I then got a "path not found" error, clicked OK, it then started the download again and installed the file. Very odd, but working fine.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Guys, i just wanted you all to know that i finally got my update installed.
Here's what i had to do...
ONE: since the installer was telling me it couldn't complete/apply the update for me due to my "current language selection", i checked a couple things out.
ONE-a: i reInstalled XX5 to see if it gave me an option to select a language... it did not.
ONE-b: i checked my system language and it was set to ENGLISH (Canadian). On a whim, i changed this to ENGLISH (American).
Low and behold, the installer completed its task, finally.
This tells me then that the installer does not recognize the ENGLISH (Canadian) language setting in Win7. This may be something worth the developers of these installer apps looking into. It should only be looking for ENGLISH... not a select 'version' of English.
Hope this helps anyone else having this issue.
l8r folks.

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
With reference to Soquili #31 and sledger #32 I have never bought software directly from Magix, and I started buying from Xara when they were still Computer Concepts and Xara was still Artworks for RISC OS. However Xara did send me a username and password for Magix in March 2007 which does allow direct access to the download for 5.1.2 update for the CD version only.

I have the same problem. No Update option.
What to do?

Re: Xara Xtreme and Xara Xtreme Pro 5.1.2 update
Luka, have you installed your Xtreme 5 from the CD?
You can only update the CD version.
