Cannot open Xar file

Panic stations

I saved up all my files last night but when I went to open the one I have been working on for the last week It will not open

I get error "Failed to read XAR file(Failed to handle record 6853 0)

What do I do? I cannot afford to scrap a weeks work I need to publish very soon.

If you go to Utilities > Options and go to the Backups tab on the Options dialog you will find the Backup Location. This is where XWD6 (I'm assuming you use 6 as you don't specify which versions you use) stores .bak files. Find the latest one and you shouldn't have lost too much of your work.

I have the utility but am at a lose to get it to run.

Tried straight clicking on it but it shuts down

Tried starting it from "run" "C:\Users\Tim\Documents\Web Development\ExpandXar Web design 4.web recovery.web"

But that just says file not found

Should I be in a dos box?

I managed to run it in the command util and it generated the recovery file

However it still just comes up with the same error message without recovering anything

Yes you need to follow the destructions carefully Tim ;)
Anyway, you seem to have run it correctly after all.

Unfortunately if expandxar cannot recover it I suggest you contact Xara and send them your file.

If it isn't too large you can post it here, sometimes X1 will open these troublesome files?

You will need to queue up at Xara support I'm afraid.

If you need to get on with things like it seems from your OP. Then you can follow the advice that I gave you in post #2. Xara support often can take quite some time to get back to you.

XWD backs up files fairly regularly so the odds of you having lost tons of work are slim.

It does incremental back ups so I had to go back a few hours to find one that would open but luckily I had not done much in the interim
