Intergrating Menu into web page
I apologize, in advance, for my ineptness, however I am really new at this.
I have design a navbar to my liking and have saved the graphics to my website;s 'menu' directory, but I am now stuck. I have no idea how to incorporate the javascript into the web page and can not find any javascript insertion instructions in the Xara Support Site.
Will someone please take pitty on me and help... :)
Thanks...

Hello Klozter,
Welcome to Talkgraphics.
Could you post the URL for your website? It will be easier to see the way to explain how to edit your page or pages to include the navbar.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Sure thing. This is a website I am putting together for a good friend of mine.

Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
I've looked a the code for your sites web page and the script tags are not what I would expect. See attached images.
If you put the image files and the javascript file for the navbar in a subfolder named menu you will need to include that in the path for the javascript file you created with Webstyle.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
What the?
I don't use menumaker, but does MM generate the code that includes the link to: http://www.xara.com/lib/mainmenu.js :confused:
This would be a serious flaw.
Whenever xara.com goes down, potentially thousands of websites across the globe would have their MM created menus rendered inoperable
Surely this can't be right?
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
You are very correct Steve. Neither MenuMaker nor Webstyle create a link to Xara.
None of the code highlighted in the first attachment is created by Webstyle or MenuMaker. I do not know where that came from or why it would be in Klotzer's web page.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
I use webstyle, not MM. The reason the code from xara is there was because I was looking at the Xara page source in order to try and determine how to layout the code for the javascript. It really has nothing to do with being generated by Xara.
In fact I could not find anything generated by Webstyle to tell me what to insert into my web page to make the menu work. This is the purpose of my query. As I said in my first post, I do not know how or what to post for the javascript to let the web page know where the menu is.
As it is, my site does not have anything to look at. This what I am trying to find out. My graphics are in a directory called 'menu' as are 2 javascripts created by webstyle at the time of saving the grapics. The scripts are cmfx.js & xaramenu.js. What I am trying to find out is how to tell my site/web page where my menu is at. The menu you see on the site at this time is simply a graphic placeholder for the menu I have made.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
The single line of code shown in the second attachment in my previous post is all you need.
Although you will have use the path and filename of the javascript file created by webstyle.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
OK, here is what I put, but nothing is showing. What am I missing?
<script webstyle4.src=/menu/cmfx.js></script>
Is there anything about javascript that needs to be inserted above
the body area in the <head> area?
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
What did you name your navbar project when you saved from Webstyle?
Your javascript file that works the menu will have that name.

cmfx
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
I've looked at your web site and it's code. It appears there are no double quote marks surrounding the path to the javascript file.
The line should look like the one shown below.
Code:
<td colspan="5"><img src="image/navbar.png" alt="" width="760" height="25" /><script webstyle4.src="/menu/cmfx.js"></script></td>
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
I have copied the code as you have shown it and replace the original code with it. Still nothing... :(
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Try removing the tags for the png image. It is not required and may be hiding the actual navbar.
<td colspan="5"><script webstyle4.src="/menu/cmfx.js"></script></td>
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Unfortunately, all that did was to remove my menu graphic. Nothing else :(
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Did you add a lot of code that you saw on the Xara.com site. There seems to be a lot of unnecessary code in your page.
I'm not an html expert and I do not use Webstyle to create website.
I'm a volunteer that helps moderate the forums.
I would recommend removing all code you added that was not part of your original html page and then place the single line for the reference to your cmfx.js file.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Actually I only copied the script codes that you originally saw. I am designing this website in DW_CS4.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Dreamweaver is not a program I have worked with. Sorry but I cannot provide any help with that.
I do not know if the Webstyle extension will work with CS4. I do know that many Dreamweaver CS3 people had to reinstall dreamweaver before the extension would work correctly for them.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Thanks, I appreciate your efforts... :)
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
FYI: I finally got it working. Here is what I needed to do:
Quote:
<script webstyle4>document.write('<scr'+'ipt src="xaramenu.js">'+'</scr'+'ipt>');document.write('<scr'+'ipt src="menu/www_corporatemagic_fx.js">'+'</scr'+'ipt>');/*img src="menu/www.corporatemagic-fx.gif" moduleid="CMFX3 (Project)\www.corporatemagic-fx_off.xws"*/</script>
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Thanks for the update Klozter.
You site generates the html for what the viewer sees on the fly (dynamic html) rather than sending a static html page. What I was seeing in the browser is not what was on your server.
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
Yep, you are correct. I was experimenting because I could not get the DW extension to work for me, however I finally got it to work... :)
Re: Intergrating Menu into web page
I'm glad things are working for you.
Did you get the extension to work or you were able to get the navbar to work?
Either way congratulations. :)
