Hi all,
I made a placeholder, named it <head> and placed the following code to replace the rectangle: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico". For some reason it comes up twice in the head. I just dont get it.

Mike where did you place your placeholder object? For placeholders named <head>, I find it best to have it off the work area and on the grey pasteboard area.
I put it on the page itself. Perhaps thats my problem. I will try and move it off the page on the gray background.

I just tried moving it off to the side of every page, and it didnt help. I dont know why it duplicates itself. I only have the code once in the placeholder.

Mike is your replace with html exactly as you show in your original post in this thread?
If so you left off the closing /> (forward slash and greater than) characters.
I know it. I left it out in one of my attempts. I found a different code to try and its still no good. It doubles the code. But only on the index page I notice. I have another placeholder on that page, an animated .gif. Can I only have one placeholder?

Mike you can have many placeholders. They do not interfere with each other.

Mike, the .web file is Web Designers default file type for your saved 'project' - not the exported .htm files.
Attach your saved .web project file please.
If you don't save your project to a .web file, you will never be able to go back and make changes to your site.
Well Sledger, Perhaps I am crazy, but my default file type when saving is .xar. I dont even see an option for .web. I am using Xtreme Pro 5. I just installed from cd about a week ago.

Wow 31mb is huge Mike. Lot's of really hi res photos?
Mostly JPG. But I think Xara coverts them to .PNG when exporting website.
Remove all images from your design and save it somwhere else. The size will be down and you'll be able to attach it. Images should not affect <header> placeholders behaviour.
Is <header> a valid tag John? :p

Anyhow - it's the culprit.
Remove that placeholder and the favicon line isn't repeated in the source.

Thats a meta verify for my google account. I was told that I could have more then one placeholder without any problems. So I never thought it was an issue. I can get rid of it.

Mike content of a placeholder can cause issues. But simply having multiple placeholders doesn't cause issues in and of itself.
Mike go back to Google Webmaster tools and change the verify method to HTML File.
They will generate a name similar to googlec78df909658***.html which you use as the name of a dummy .html file placed in your site root folder.
The content of the placeholder should not affect the way it's inserted into the page. So it's a kind of bug.
But the reason is that you have two <head> placeholders on a page.
You can fix the problem simply putting all your code parts into a single <head> placeholder.
BTW Your meta element is not closed thus it is invalid for the XHTML standard. I would suggest adding a slash before the closing ">". Like this:

I don't think it's a big constrain since you have a single <head> element in your page and it's not a huge problem to put all your code into a single placeholder. Is it?
