Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Good evening all,
After much trouble, I found a Google Calendar that I think will work to post classes for students for the month. I'm hoping the date box will hold the information. I will have to use small fonts. At any rate, I've tried most of today and still can't seem to import the Calendar Code onto my calendar page. I anyone using this calendar and can tell me how to complete the importing code process please? Finally, does will this be a situation where I won't be able to see the Calendar as I review the page or will I have to actually upload everything to the web before I will be able to see the Calendar? Thank you for any help I can get.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Good Saturday Evening All,
Shaking in my shoes, I get that way when I don't want to make a mistake with my copy of Xara Web Designer Premium 15 or 16. At any rate here is what I found after I decided to take a chance regarding the Google Calendar. I decided to paste the calendar code directly onto my website page. My concern was whether I could see the results before re-publishing my website. To my surprise, when I did re-publish the website there was the Google Calendar. Now, my problem is, how do I input info on the calendar and change months, etc. I can't input anthing on the calendar once the website is published :( I will keep you posted as I discover new info. There is something I am missing. There has got to be a way to input info and make changes to the Calendar before or after I publish the website. Thanks all.

You can open your Google calendar at any time and add/amend/delete an event. If you refresh your browsers view of the calendar these show up almost instantly.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Good Evening Mr. Bramhill,
I've got to go back to the drawing board and check out the example videos you've posted here. Actually, I was able to finally see the calendar before I published the website so I thought that would permit me to put in dates, info, etc, but each time I hit the "Edit" or tried to changed the month, the Xara Web Property screen would come up. OK, I am going to take a look at your videos because it's apparent I need to delete the webpage calendar and start over. I want to thank you so much sir. I will be back in touch. Thank you again and I very much appreciate your reaching out to me.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Hi again Robert, you can't edit the calendar from within Xara, as you state trying this only opens the Web Properties. Xara merely has a placeholder (a container) that serves up the calendar from your google calendar page. To edit etc you need to open your Google Calendar, not Xara.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Mr. Bramhill,
I knew there was something very wrong and you're right. I tried to edit the calendar from within Xara. I have deleted the previous calendar and will go back and get the code and put it directly on my web page. I did change the code to instead of 600px height, I changed it to 800px height. Is that OK? Should I put the code direcly on my webpage or used the body in the Web Property Screen? Finally, how does the calendar work if I am not making changes and imputing info directly on the calendar page in Xara? That's a mystery to me sir.

You can set the width and height to any value you require provided they are within the page limits.

Create a rectangle. With it selected, go to web properties / Placeholder and select the Replace HTML code Body and paste the code into there.

The placeholder in Xara is merely telling the page to load your google calendar from your google calendar page. Make a change to this google calendar page and your published webpage will serve up the latest google page.
When you publish your website with a placeholder to a google calendar it will load the latest version of your calendar. The Xara page just contains a container for this data.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Mr. Branhill,
Good Sunday evening to you sir. It seems that the height of the calendar cannot be changed above 600px. What happens to me is, when the height is set for 800px there is a blank area below 600px for the height. I have enough page because below the calendar is a telephone and telephone numbers for students to call. Any suggestions?

That's not correct Robert. You can change the place holder code from Googles default 800px x 600px to any value you want.
So from the iframe code Google supplies (as per the first video) just change the width / height to suit your requirements.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Possibly the simpler way is to change the code to read '...width="100%" height="100%"...' and it fits into whatever size your Placeholder is changed to.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Great Monday Morning All,
Mr Bramhill and Mr Acorn,
I am a rather slow learner, but I think I now understand where you gentlemen are coming from. Thank you both for being so clear as you explain this situation. I wil not go back to the task of putting this calendar together so it works for our students. I want to be able to present clear and right-now information to all our students. Thanks to you gentlemen I should now be able to do that. The most important thing though is, you all make is so that I don't feel dumb if I have to return with additional questions and that's very important. Thank you so much for your patience and expert guidance.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Bob, you are welcome.
How I view the Xara-generated websites is that they are static content.
A Placeholder using an IFRAME is just a window to other content that in itself may be editable. Other Placeholders provide content, styling or actions that Xara on its own cannot.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Dear Mr. Acorn and Mr. Bramhill,
You gentlemen have made it possible for me to actually get the Google Calendar on my webpage and at 600pm width and 850px height which I could have not done on my own. I am now trying to get a grip on placing information on the calendar. This is a slow learning process for me, but as I keep in touch with the calendar I will get more use to working with it. Again, I can't thank you all enough sir.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Good Wed Evening,
I am still having major problems with the Google Calendar.
1. On the Google Calendar page with HTML code I've changed the width to 855 and height to 1000 which sees to work out.
2. I've returned to my Xara calendar web page, drawn a "placeholder" rectangle and selected the Placeholder with above width and height.
3. I opened up utilities >web properties > placeholder and pasted code into the body and clicked OK.
4. When I previewed my web page with the calendar, I found the calendar was at the top of the page instead of at the bottom. I don't understand how or what caused the calendar to move from the position where I had drawn the Placeholder rectangle.
5. I decided to delete the contact page where I wanted the calendar then add a new page for the calendar, but that does not work either. I've been working on trying to get this calendar up and running since Monday and am kind of frustrated. I also noted the months could not be changed on the calendar on my website.
By the way, Mr. Bramhill, I did look at and tried to follow those excellent Videos you provided but to no avail. I am going to continue to work on this. I will delete the contact page and then add replace it. I hope things will work out if I do all the steps with a brand new contact page. Should I go back to Google and try to find another calendar for my website? If so, is there a direct link?

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Good evening all and forgive me for not sending a link. However, I am lost at this point regarding what to do. Please go to: www.newpathwaysconsultants.com and click on the "Calendar" page. As you can see, based on what I learned here I was able to get the calendar page 800px wide by 1100px height which is what I was trying to do, but couldn't until Mr. Bramhill and Mr. Acorn chimed in. However, my problem is, I can't find the code for this calendar which means I can't enter information. I should have bookmarked the code page. Everything works good on this calendar except I can't input the student classes. If I can get help figuring this out or get new code for a new calendar like this one that would truly be a blessing. Thanks so much.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Hello Mr Bramhill,
Hope you had a great day today. I went to the link above and it took me back to a calendar. However, no information I input on the calendar ended up on my website calendar. Is there any way I can access the code for the calendar your link took me to? If so, I can delete and add a new calendar to my website page if that makes any sense. Although it appears the link you provided takes me to a calendar, that one is not tied into the proper code for the calendar on my website page. :)

Perhaps you could trust Acorn & I with access to your google calendar. You can always change your password at a later date. If so please Private Message me and/or Acorn your google log-in details. Either that or attach here your embed code supplied by Google.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Hi again Bob, thanks for sharing. I attach a xar file containing a link to your calendar. Hit Preview and scroll to March.
It's not final, it should be colour coded by course and not display Saturday or Sunday.
I'd suggest you don't include times in the titles, it just makes it to long to display. Also keep the calendar height to a minimum of 600px.
I don't use Google Calendars so it's a suck it and see for me too, but it's worth learning the details :)

Mr Branhill,
Again, I want to thank you so much for your great help. I really wish I knew more than I do so that I would not have to bother you all so much, but at 80 plus I am still growing and learning. Even at my age I don't want to stop growing and learning. Thank you for your more than able assistance and patience sir.

Re: Google Calendar Found, but having difficulty importing to my webpage
Good Friday Morning Mr. Bramhill,
I am just getting back to our calendar situation and will go to the link you've been kind enough to provide last evening. However, I wanted to be sure I understood all you suggested. Including times of each events/classes on the calendar is important because students immediately want to know if they can participate based on what time classes are. You also advise to keep the calendar height a minimum of 600px. Presently, the calendar on my calendar webpage is a little over 1000px. Do you think this will work OK? I am happy it was a learning process for you as well as for me. Please let me know your thoughts regarding my questions sir.

Just my suggestions Bob, nothing set in stone ;)
You can either add simple course titles or add additional details to these titles like time & locations etc. Problem with doing that is the titles get very long and basically foreshortened on your calendar anyway. My suggestion is that you keep your titles concise, just the course name & number.
As an example:
You can have a calendar title of "Real Estate Basic Training Course #1, Part #3 @ Liberty Hall, Swan Street. 14:00 to 17:00 "
Or you can have a title like "R.E.B.T.C. 1.3". The student will know the shortened course title they are enrolled on. On left clicking the course link it supplies the pop-up details "Real Estate Basic Training Course #1, Part #3 (R.E.B.T. 1.3) @ Liberty Hall, Swan Street. 14:00 to 17:00".
Personally I try to achieve a page that avoids the need to scroll.
