:D
Hi,
Wish they would clarify what the new names versus the old names are....I have Xara Designer Pro 7 and want to upgrade to program with newer and better features but unsure of
the Name changes...Xara designer Pro 8 or Photo & designer Pro MX?...which is which?
Jim
Jim Designer Pro X is the upgrade for Designer Pro 7.
Jim--Designer Pro X from XDP7.
Mike
Hi,
Ok thanks....now to get my pennies saved...upgrade price pretty steep...think last upgrade was cheaper...
Jim
Thanks
It is a bit confusing with the MX and the X.
The new top of the line drawing application is now Xara Designer Pro X. The next version of Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 7 is Xara Photo & Graphic Designer MX. Photo & Graphic Designer MX is the lite version of Designer Pro X.
You can find a comparison chart of the two products here http://www.xara.com/products/designer/compare/
Awesome, downloading trial now :D
Hmmm Xara site is quoting $129 to upgrade to Pro X from P&D 7 but ticket showing $159 at checkout?
Ants, make sure you're logging in with the same email address as your previous product is registered to, otherwise you won't get the upgrade price.

I have signed-in and all my previous purchase history is correct. As you can see from the capture I am being offered a discount of sorts, just not the one being advertised. Happy to hold off purchasing until there is clarity/consistency.
Your screen shot indicates you are doing a crossgrade rather than an upgrade.
Which product are you choosing as your current application?
It's because you've got to the US page and you've got VAT added to that.
Go back, change the flag in the top right to UK and then try again and it should work. I've corrected the URL in the first post so it should now auto-detect which currency you should be using.
Attachment 89463
Thats what I get prior to 'Buy Now' then I get the same as what I posted above.
The page is in Dollars not Sterling, see my last post and you should be set.
Okay thanks that does work and I now get the actual price quoted in £sterling. Only it's £99 which at current exchange c$1.61 equals $159.39 anyway so it's only '$129' for an upgrade if you are a US based customer. For any UK based customers it still works out at $30 more to upgrade, why is this please?
Only Xara can answer your question. Contact Sales at Xara.com.
I think you'll find it's a little thing called VAT
One of my favorite new features is the Shape Builder Tool. By changing the roundness and angle settings you can achieve a pen nib effect. The attached isn't very skillful because I'm using a mouse rather than a drawing tablet and stylus.
Antspants
if its any comfort to you £99 is 39.75% of the UK price of £249.... $129 is 43.14% of the US price of $299......
and inversely with the eraser Bill of course .... cool - quite a few members [me included] should be very happy with this
Steve I am still evaluating the Eraser. Some instances create a soft erase that is actually a mask simply hiding the objects underneath. The Eraser will perform a hard erase of a vector object or photograph.
"I think you'll find it's a little thing called VAT". Yes thanks PeteS, not sure you really needed to be so patronising but whatever floats the boat for ya.
Isolating hair in photos just got a bit easier. I did this using just the native tool set including the new colour/select erase tool and the shape eraser tool. Still a few steps to do it but it's quick enough.

The eraser is non destructive and you can use it on both vector objects, groups of objects, blends, and almost anything else, as well as bitmaps.
The Shape Builder Tool is very cool and I really love the Color Select/Erase. I was hoping my review would be posted by now but perhaps there are some technical issues to be sorted. I cover all this and all the other cool new features.
In the first image I cropped into a photo then added a cloud like vignette.
The Color Select/Erase can select and erase more than one color at a time and used with the new Soft Mask can select an existing color/range of colors and modify it or change the colors. It works best if there is a lot of contrast between the color selected and the colors protected.
In the third illustration I selected the Quail logo, added a Soft Mask and used the new Photo Tool > Set Photo Hue settings to create a range of color variations.
Cool, so far. In testing it out, is there a way to remove just a "Section" of the white background say in a cartoon character without removing the whites in the eyes as well? If not, the upgrade would seem ... not what I'd be looking for. Thanks!
rpc - You can also create some simple white shapes and send them behind the eyes.
Well the mask as Rich suggested is another way to do this. Or you could use a white that was not completely white for the eyes, but that would probably be spotty at best.
Have signed up to the new Pro X and everything is working brilliantly. The paragraph and character styles, the embedded graphics and the graphic bullets work a treat. Once there is automatic pages numbering and automatic contents generation I'll have everything I need for creating long documents and will be able to ditch Indesign. Incidentally, when I carefully logged into the Xara UK site and clicked the button to buy (£79) I was automatically sent to the US site. This might account for some of the pricing confusion raised in this thread. Anyway must return to play with the new software.
Well, Tony, I would add to this list, hyphenation and support for Glyphs. I recently purchased a beautiful font called Aire that has some extremely elegant glyph swash caps and ligatures that I have to break down and open my copy of Illustrator CS5.5 to access. And you cannot even copy and paste into Xara.
Well I got over my little tantrum after a sulk and purchased the upgrade to XD pro X. Never had a copy of the 'pro' version before so a first for me. It's much faster than any of my previous versions and it's great to be able to do everything in one program. The new tools look excellent and I can't wait for the first run of videos/TUT's to appear as i'm sure there are loads of uses for these tools that I haven't thought of.
Sorry for being short and snappy with you PeteS-rough day for me but that's no excuse really I know.
Don't forget running headers/footers, indexing, ebook and other interactive PDFs, and, and, and...
However, if you wish to dump ID and can live without running headers/footers (though there is a cludge of a work-around) pick up PagePlus. The problem for me with dumping ID, even though I far prefer to use PP whenever possible, is that I have too much work that the customers need to obtain the ID version. This also applies to that moderately useful AI piece of garbage from Adobe. But if I do have control over what I use for such work, PP it is.
All that said, if there is something I can produce in Xara, Xara it is. And I think the new version just extends that capability / usefulness.
Take care, Mike
For anyone wanting to find out a little bit more about the new version, Gary B has now published Gary P's 'First Look' at the new Designer Pro on the Xara Xone @ http://www.xaraxone.com/tutorials/xa...-x-first-look/
@Tony
A follow-on to the AI comment. Even when I have to turn over art in an AI format, it almost always is fully created in XDP and at the end, exported and saved out in AI. Even when there are elements I have to do in AI, the art begins life in XDP. There are some features in AI I hope eventually work their way into Xara--mostly the appearance panel stuff.
Xara is to me the fastest means to an end.
@Kate--thank you. Already gone through it and kudos to Gary P!
Take care, Mike
