Re: Bug with Shape Builder
The shape builder and eraser do tend to create shapes with lots of control points but we are not aware of any issues when combining them. Can you post an example of this saved just before you do the "Add shapes" and saved again just after and explain which shapes you consider to have the "insanely high number of nodes"?
Thanks,
Gerry
edit - only just :)
Re: Bug with Shape Builder
do you have an example?

Re: Bug with Shape Builder
Try to combine the black and orange shapes on the left. I suspect it only happens with overlapping shapes.
The result is a shape in a group in a group, part of which turned light gray and part of which is not filled at all.
Re: Bug with Shape Builder
your default outline is set to tacks and this seems to be causing the problem for reasons Gerry can hopefully explain - reset outline to normal should be ok?
Re: Bug with Shape Builder
seems to work for me: click on the lower object and give it an outline - you will see it is tacks - reset it to normal line - remove the outline - should now combine ok with other shape
Re: Bug with Shape Builder
It's still strange behaviour. When I create a new document, and make two shapes, one with tacks (thickness none) and one with a normal outline (thickness none), they still combine to a shape in a group in a group. This time, the result is light gray (I used black and green shapes), and the shape with the tacks outline is now transformed into a (shape of a) row of big tacks (light gray).
Re: Bug with Shape Builder
be something to do with the nature of the 'tack' outline I would think, which is a custom brush made from a graphic of 5 seperate groups, probably a complicated process going on :)
Re: Bug with Shape Builder
I can reproduce the bug. It looks very odd and I can't immediately explain why it does that so I've added it to our bug tracking system.
Thanks,
Phil
Re: Bug with Shape Builder
Dear Xara thanks for the great tool, but please add some functionality for it.
Please add some option or button for disabling nodes on active shape,
its realy hard to see whats behind all these clouds of nodes, specially when drawing with pressure.
Re: Bug with Shape Builder
Hi Huorn
you can disable nodes with a registry fix - and Xareg will do it for you
I agree that this function should be in the program - it is a problem when drawing freehand with no smoothing
Meanwhile, whilst using Xareg means having to close and restart the program when switching, at least that is a more straight forward alternative to direct registry editing, and it has many useful tweaks [thanks again Bill]
in Xareg you need to tick 'Auto Deselect' on the 'Blobs' tab to disable nodes
as far as I can see all the basic fuctions of Xareg will work with the new version [but possibly not the 'load' and 'save' fuctions which may require an update to the program] - certainly the auto deselect and all the other tab changes that I normally make work ok

Agreed. It is pretty close to being a pretty handy roughing out tool. The nodes do really interrupt the flow of the drawing. If we could turn them off while drawing that would be a big help though having them turned on when an existing shape was drawn would be the way forward for me.
