JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
We’ve just released an Update Service update to Xara Designer Pro X. New features include new heading & para styles (backgrounds and borders), support for tab leaders, a first release of InDesign import (this is BETA and your feedback will be *very* welcome, it will help us prioritize our ongoing development of this new format), as well as updates to all the other major import/export formats, and some web related changes that should help with SEO.
You can find a summary of these and other new features & content on our website @ https://www.xara.com/designer-pro/whats-new/ and full details on all the v17 updates in the Release Notes @ http://releasenotes.xara.hosting/designer-pro-x17/. Don’t read too much into the version number change, this is driven by retail channel considerations, not necessarily a reflection on the substance of the update.
Important: If you have an active Update Service there will be no charge for the update but you will still need to re-download Designer Pro from https://www.xara.com/designer-pro/download/ - there will be no auto-update.
If your Update Service has expired then you can renew your Update Service / upgrade in order to get this and other updates since your version (go to the Designer Pro page on magix.com and click Upgrade). You can find info on those previous updates at https://www.xara.com/designer-pro/whats-new/older/. You can install the v17 trial alongside your current version.
And as always you can find separate info on what’s new in Xara Cloud @ https://docs.xara.com/latest-updates.
We hope you enjoy the new features.

This neglects to mention that all changes to settings and toolbar layouts, change of location of the Cache and many other user adjustments all go by the wayside.
Neither do you mention that you have set the licence servers to no longer allow two installs of the prior major version to continue running with an install of v17.0. You might no think this important but the Xara past record of new releases has rarely been smooth and your Customers have had to regress to the earlier "working" version to republish existing websites.
Thank you for Image Filenames. I see that multiple copies on the page only require one uploaded image.
It is a pity that the simple rotation of an image or scaling or a Live Copy requires it to be numbered.
No one thought about adding the Image Filename option to the Photo pop-up.
Or some tie up with the Name gallery and the Page & Layer gallery.
Perhaps the next update?
I am pleased that the SmartShape Table link issue appears to have been fixed. I note the distinct notice of any changes or improvements to any SmartShapes.
I have noted issues with the new Paragraph Borders elsewhere.
I know you expect the Xara Desktop application to just work and that you hide all the nitty-gritty away from us. The problem comes when there has been a bug that is then fixed. We have limited information about what the fix does so we end up hunting and pecking to be really sure we can now use the feature as intended.
What I am asking for here is more detail behind the fixes.
I look forward to working through the changes.

Kate - I just tried to download this update and was blocked by Malwarebytes. When I tried to override the block and clicked Save File Malwarebytes blocked the save.

The license shouldn't take up another copy, previous versions should still be activated and if not this is a bug which I'll take a look into.
Thanks

Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
I can replicate this on my home PC (although not my work one...) so something does seem off, although I'm not sure what is triggering the re-activating. I'm in contact with Magix so I'll let you know either way.

Rob, glad it's not just me then.

Hmm, the 'upgrades' seem to be getting smaller and smaller each year. Having had every version since the Beta of Studio, I don't think I'll rush to buy this one.

There was in reply to a previous message about websites that was removed.

Seems you can't avoid taking a shot. Why?
-
Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
The question is if it really matters if there is a shot or not.
Xara chose, this time, to announce in TG Announcements and this Forum but omitted the Web Design one. The Announcements one was initially open but is not Closed so I knew that any discussion had to begin here: with no place to cover web aspects of v17.0 then here becomes the natural resting place.
I rattled out a few observations on the actual update mechanism, web component additions and updates and new features. As far as I am concerned, XDPX is an integrated package and its user come into it from all directions.
To fragment away points into separate Threads all over is fine for Xara but fails us.
Ideally, we should all raise single issue matters as a Dear Xara Thread but as experience shows these are almost never responded to.
So my "shot" is if Xara took our concerns seriously and replied then the shots would be wasted and would wither. Shots indicate a disquiet and a handrawn shot is a good belweather.

Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
This thread was opened because normal users can't reply to the announcement thread if they have any questions about V17, in regards to any part of it. The previous comments about website were not related to V17 and therefore can go over into the web forums. That's all. I don't want to hear about any other comments in this particular thread unless its related to V17.

because i am not a yes man
because I am still here trying to help others on a regular basis, where I can
because xaramagix are milking the update service for all it is worth
and finally because it is not taking a shot, it is calling to account
ok Rob last you will hear from me in this thread, I hear what you say..

Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
I’m confused as well. I really thought that DPX17 was a completely new version, but I’ve figured out the base name is Designer Pro X, then the versions are dumped onto that. I have X16, so this upgrade is X17. @xara how about calling the product X, then say VERSION 6 upgrade to VERSION 7 in the actual email alerts. Sorry, just a little confusing for the average Joe Sixpack.

More than likely they (Magix/Xara) are just throwing a bone out. Honestly, I have a deep feeling that this company really is only in if for the money - absolutely no heart&soul in their product. Once, definitely, but now they are looking at this as a cash cow. Great product, but hinging on people wanting "the latest"... even though the latest is the same 'ol.

Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
I was able to upgrade to X17 on both of my devices (laptop and desktop).
So I guess whatever bug was preventing activation has been fixed

Were you still able to keep version 16.n also? That is the bug.

Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
I installed this update as a result of the pop-up from running DPX17.1.
I am now on DPX 18.0.0.61642 DL x64 Mar 18 2021
I can confirm that my DXP17 custom toolbars did actually make it across to DXP18
Many other settings were also carried across.
The PDF import is a welcome improvement. I had some PDF files that refused to open in DXP17 but now open fine in DXP18.
I have now confidently removed DXP17 (I do have a backup of the DXP17 CU and LM registry files for just in)

Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
Hello, does the new Xara Designer pro version support transparency between Xara and CorelDraw?
I use Xara designer pro 15 and it does not.
I work with people who use CorelDraw and we share files.
As of now, I have to convert to AI eps, and open up the file in CorelDraw to finish the work if transparency is needed.
Does the transparency tool convert properly in CorelDraw when converting with the newest version of Xara Designer Pro?
Thanks in advance.

Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
Xara X+ and CorelDraw 2019 works for me.
Export from Xara as CMX 6--32 bit and then place, not open, in CorelDraw.

It always has worked in the XDPX version and now in Xara Pro+:Try Utilities > Options > Photo Editing > Editing Bitmaps > Bitmap transfer: Always use PNG.
I do not recall there being any choice in XWD(P) other than Exporting PNG...

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure what you mean by "place"
Call me slow but I can't find that option in Coreldraw 2020.
Can you hint to me how that works? I would appreciate it.

Hello Acorn. Yes, I've done that before with no problem, but
I was really referring to vector shapes. I would apply the transparency tool to a vector shape in Xara Designer Pro X 15,
then I would open it in Coreldraw 2020 only to see no transparency applied.
Ernie-F has explained to export the Xar file as a CMX6 - 32 bit and then place it not open it.
However, I see no option for that. What step am I missing? How does that work?

Re: JUST RELEASED: An update to Xara Designer Pro X
To place a file do it from Explorer. Drag the file in Corel or Import it in to an existend Corel document.
Do not open the cmx.
