Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Mobile nav again...sorry! I had to totally create a new one.
I can't get it to open so you can see the related items after the first item..I've moved the nav bar to the right, to the left..etc. I've changed a few settings, but it does not open right on my Iphone regardless of what I pick. Looks fine on the computer screen when I close it down as small as I can.
Can someone tell me if there are settings to use so that it opens right...gesh! Any suggestions...I'm so frustrated.
I've worked on it for 2 days!
MOBILE ONLY...

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Sue, sorry you are having problems.
I have never liked the Xara NavBar so you might consider a different approach.
As your menu is so deep, wide and extensive (c.f., Archie), I would instead develop a mega-menu.
This can either be a separate layer or a new page that handles both Main and Variant.
You then layout your Links as you see fit. All are visible so there is no need for sub-menus and you can have different layouts (lineage), images and thumbnails.
Using a Page approach, you would need a Back Link; javascript:history.back(); should work.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Acorn, thanks for the suggestion. Now I need help or directions on how to make a mega-menu. And I could make the last section with Archie, one long page, if I have too. updated: I am going to combine those pages...I like that better anyways, so thanks for bringing that to light for me.
I need to see what you are talking about visually and need direction on how to do it, if you don't mind. A site to help me with seeing what it looks like, a file or what not...please. I'm a visual learner.
I have no idea what you are talking about with the "back link" etc. :(

Sue, here is a demo file: Attachment 133505.
There is nothing rocket science or complex in the design, or pretty for that matter.
If you are on any site page and click More.., you are taken to the mega menu.
The More.. is replaced with the Back Link.
I included your Anchors on the Home page as well as a Top of Page as I made the top menu bar Sticky.
No sub-menus, just a page of mess to play with.

Acorn, I opened it...and I think it's beyond me and my knowledge to understand. Thanks for trying...I'm just not that smart!

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Sue, just think of it as a Pop-up Layer but instead of having the Layer on every page, you have created a separate menu page instead.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Thanks so much, Acorn. I don't think I've ever done a pop up layer...again, need instructions to be able to "get" how to do it.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Sue, I have looked at your menu from my Smartphone.
There are a number of issues that, when addressed, might get you working.
First off, drag the Hamburger off the page so it is closer to the top of the page and wholly on the Pasteboard.
This might address the problem when viewing in Landscape as the menu is cut off half-way down.
The next problem is, I believe that you still have links or the menu items that should be opening further sub-menus.
This is why you get a fail with OUR BEARDIES > Emerald...
The menu is too deep and too tall.
About Us and Contact Us need not be in the Hamburger as they are Anchors on the Home page.
Factor them out and add them as Repeating Text Links at the page footer.
Just have Dog Shows and on each page have a Text Link to the other page.
Change the CAPITALS for (ALL) OUR BEARDIES. This will make the menu lists narrower such that you will just about squeeze in the third level sub-menus.
You could also reduce the gap between link items.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Hi Acorn, how kind of you to have a look-see at the nav. I kept working on it. I am stubborn.
I actually have it working now on my phone, no issues that I can see.
I put About Us and Contact us in the menu in case no one scrolled down or used the links...you know how some people are, they mostly use the nav bars.
I have not tried the landscape view in a while, but when I did, on my phone at least, it went to the computer version which works okay, from what I can see.
I did eliminate all the sibling names to just "siblings" and almost thought of taking them out but to dog people, they may want to see other famous dogs. LOL
Do you have an Iphone or Android? Mine is not a large iPhone but it seems fine. I will review some of what you are seeing and see if I see what you see. Thanks again!
And I did try researching setting up a layer pop up but I think I'm not ready.
Edited: I can see by the time it gets to the 3rd drop out, it's an issue...sigh!

I looked at the site on my Android mobile and I can see (as Acorn said) that you still have some level 2 links (e.g. Emerald points emerald.htm) - these links need to be removed and added to your third levels links - best illustrated.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Oh, my gawd, Initiostar! This so helpful. I never understood why I had to double click that 2nd item in! The hard part is giving it the right terminology then so it leads to the right things without using "Emerald" twice...thank you for pointing this out to me and the GREAT EXAMPLES!
So by making my own mobile nav and not using one made in a template, the difference is that it goes across the whole horizontal page? And then do you tell it stick too so it travels with the page? And thank you all for your patience with me not understanding some of the very technical stuff...

Sue, I do understand. I was referring to one of the prior run-thoughs of your site where the NavBar was failing on mobiles.
All I can suggest is refer to the many YT videos. Most are in bite-size chunks.
I don't use them as I find it incredibly tedious to go at their pace in a linear plod.
I far prefer working at a function until I get stuck then I refer to the manual.
Writing instructions for another is extremely hard as one's assumption of some other's skills, knowledge and capability are always wrong.
I am fine at one-to-one or in an environment where there is immediate interaction.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Acorn, memory for me fails since my illness, but I do think it was a website that I run and not as many menu items, so it was so much easier to do. I did get it then..now with my brain and things not connecting, I do try on my own, look up stuff whether on YT or the manual, but many times I am missing the word to search for to find what I am not getting...and agree sometimes they talk too much, and I have issues following them.
And I totally messed up something deleted repetitive videos in the folder for the website, and I will post another thread asking for help on how not to clean up repetitive stuff. What a mess!
I agree, for me posting here, many times gets me to figure it out..and sometimes in my frustration I post, and while waiting for help, get it figured out.
Thanks for always being willing to help...I do think your knowledge bank and words sometimes get me lost...

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Sue, I am sorry for you with your problems. I was not trying to hector you.
My first website was a mess as I threw everything into it.
Nowadays, I try to be minimal and methodical.
I know you are against the subscription model but the type of site you want would work well using the new Xara Blocks as you can almost ignore layout and focus on content.
Acorn

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Oh, I'm sure most of mine are a mess and I just wing things...Tell me more about the subscription model and what you like? Don't know what Xara blocks are etc. I love that you like it but need to know more..
Does it convert all the sites we have now from an older version okay?
If we decide in a year or two to stop the subscription, can we take it back to the old version we had purchased?
I will consider it....as you can tell, I have questions..
And I did do one of the sites in Dreamweaver and loved how it did it's own mobile version once you set up 1 thing for it. Me doing two different sites is a lot of extra work, in my humble opinion, but I do love this software much more.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Sue, look at the videos here: https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...e-using-Blocks.
When you stop a subscription, the access to the software goes.
You still have your design file and it should open in an earlier XDA, just the Block capability will have disappeared.
The sites will still publish as Block is a design thing and not a publish one.
The sites will still be editable.
Magix in the meantime might have caught up.
It will not convert but what I would do is start building the new site as a set of blocks and cross populate the content.
Good questions, ones Xara needs to address.

Sue, a tad unfair asking if you haven't looked as the videos.
If you have a XAR or WEB created with Blocks then the Blocks are a special Group that has magic features that turn mundane when opened in an earlier version.
The objects are still there and publish all properly. You no longer have the powers to move and adjust in a Block fashion. You can still use you Xara tools to achieve edits and changes.
Magix runs a good year behind so Blocks may come your way, if you want to wait.
Download the trial, follow the videos and build a site.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Hey Acorn. I looked at the videos...and I've used blocks in another program our club uses to send out emails. I'm not a fan for websites but if it comes to my program, I will deal with it. Not interested in changing and working on all new websites.
Thanks for helping though!

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Initiostar, I tried making my own mobile nav like you had written, but no option to pick nav bar, so I'm guessing I didn't get something right.
I made a rectangle, attached the hamburger and tried to right click, no option for nav, then I added "menu" in the same purple color so you couldn't see it and tried to group all to the rectangle and group, and still no option to select nav bar.
Where or what did I miss...

In my example, you would download the menu symbol, create a text column or text area with the word Menu, set the text colour to no fill, align both objects and GROUP. You can set the menu symbol to any colour you want.
You are welcome to explore this here > Attachment 133515
You can GROUP any shape and text column / area and the option will be there to create a Xara Navbar. Alignment; colours and fonts for the submenus, including vertical and horizontal offsets can be changed in the Navbar Pop Menu.
Best to play around with the example, get comfortable with how it works before you drop it into your live site.
There are a few variations to this approach but the principles are the same.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Thanks so much. Will work on this file in the morning. Oh, I love that you shared it!!
I did manage to take my mobile (hamburger) menu and place it over a rectangle, set the rectangle to sticky and they both work together. I am not sure how they are working together...but yeah for me! I DID NOT GROUP THEM, only the hamburger is a group and I used it from the website I've been working on cleaning it up.
Now one question I do have is that on the rectangle I wanted to place text or an arrow. But when I place a word there, you can't see it. I went back to something someone had set up on one of my questions and their wording says "text line" and miine says text area..their text line shows up but not my text area. What is the difference, if you know? And on your file, I just looked, says "text column" on the nav bar? How does it say that or determine that??
And can you explain how the rectangle and mobile nav go together when I did not group them? It blows my mind that I can't figure some of this out playing for hours...
And I thank you for the file and patience while I try my best!
Sue

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
There is no need (in his example) to group the rectangle with anything; the only group is the menu symbol and text. You are correct that if you want the header rectangle and menu to be fixed at the top of the page then both need to be sticky. It is also the case that if you want to add text to the header it too needs to be sticky. You will not otherwise see it.
Attachment 133517
You could retain your current header for each page and add an updated menu.
Hope this helps.

Re: Mobile nav not opening to see addition items listed
Absolutely explains not getting a word to show u because I hadn't made it "sticky"...Amazing that sticky works for all and not have to be grouped or a soft group..wow!
Thanks for showing me how the header could also be a sticky at the top with the menu...nice!
Thank YOU!
So what I was seeing in the page and layer gallery with text area, text column, or text line, doesn't matter for anything?
