How to use graphic and text together
Greetings! First off, I am relatively new to Xara, well, okay, not all that new as I have had Xara3D since Version 4 but have only done text until now, and I am stumped. I stumbled upon a thread about the coin effect http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=14417
My question is this. I am trying to create the "Coin" type effect (Actually trying to create a logo on a circle/coin effect spin) along with some text that would spin with it or possibly spin in an alternate direction of the logo. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re: How to use graphic and text together
Hi Magoo2,
Welcome to the forum.
I'm having some problems getting a texture on a circle above text and it's way past my bed time. I'll continue to work on it tomorrow evening. If anyone else can provide an answer in the mean time, please do.

Re: Help! with getting button and text in same image
Hi Raffy,
I'm working on a solution to your question. A new member, Magoo2 has asked a similar question in the thread http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...119#post158119
So far my attempts aren't getting the texture on the 'coin' above the text correctly.
If anyone else has an answer before I can figure one out, please post.

Re: How to use graphic and text together
Thanks Bob. I have been swamped here at work lately and I had some hardware problems at home. Lightening fried my last modem and I decided to have DSL installed. Took awhile before they could run the new telephone cables to my house.
-
Re: How to use graphic and text together
So, you moved up!!! Good for you!!!!! Lightning fried your modem??? WOW! The rest of the computer was/is okay? How'd it happen, exactly?
-
Re: How to use graphic and text together
I only use external modems for the extra protection from lightening and any other surges on the telephone line.
This time of year we have a lot of thunderstorms and all the telephone lines are above ground so they can pick up a significant voltage from a near miss from a lightening bolt. Actually the only damage is to 3 flat pack resisters that connect the main modem circuitry to the telephone line, but I'm too cheap to buy a resistor kit for $100 when I could buy a new modem for $29. The small flat resistors are only available in a complete kit of common resistance values. My DSL service will only cost me $29 a month, now that it is available in my area. My dial up service was almost that much from the same company :o .
With the DSL service they install heavy duty lightening arrestor at the main junction box on the side of the house. Any surge is shunted to ground and the relay resets once the voltage is gone.

Hey Bronco fan! Sorry I have not replied as I have been under the weather. While that is incredible and would very much like to know how you did that, what I am looking for is text on top
Homeland Security
the image would be here in the middle (I am unsure how to put a pic in)
Counter Terrorist Unit
Just like that.
Also, are you the one who did that awesome graphic with the Broncos logo with the AFC logo on the alternate side?

Ooops! Sorry guys! That was a bit big! Here is a graphic of it which is smaller except for one. Also, I was wondering how in the heck can you put two different logo's/pictures on each side of the circle/coin?

Re: How to use graphic and text together
Sorry you were under the weather, Magoo. I hope you are feeling better now. I wasn't well last night and didn't work on your question.
Reading the posts you made today, I see you want text above and below the shape (coin). The attached image is what I came up with tonight. I'm also attaching a zip file that contains the .x3d file for the animation.
To get a different image to show in an animation you need two shapes with a page break between them. The animation shows one page for the first half of the animation and the second during the second half.
It took a lot of trial and error to get the two different textures on the two different disk shapes. I don't think I could document all the steps taken. If you have an specific questions, I can try and answer them individually.

Using the images you provided, here's a 'coin' animation. The zip file contains the animated gif and the .x3d file.

Re: Help! with getting button and text in same image
Hi Raffy,
There is no way to merge two Xara3D files, and if you use one of the templates for a button you cannot add text outside the button.
You can use a font like dingbats that have shapes in place of letters. Find a font that has the shape you want (or create the shape in Webster and import it into Xara3D). Add the text you want. Add a texture to the shape the same way as shown in the Coin thread.

Re: How to use graphic and text together
Hi,Bill! That's what I've been trying to do,too.I'd also like to be able to get the text to move independently of the image-for eg.,have the text swing opposite to the orange/apple.Is this possible?I'm enclosing a picture of what I'd like to do.

I'd like to have the cat moving independently of the text. Thanks for your help!

Hi,Bill!Looks like we've got 2 threads going here!I saw your answer to Magoo, and that's what I'm aiming for.So your answer to him has helped me,and this answer, too.I did find an animal font,as you can see:
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/6...hjaguar9lj.jpg
But I'd like to know if I can get the cat and the text moving independently of each other. Thanks for your help!
Can I import a cat picture jpeg and use that as my shape?

Re: Help! with getting button and text in same image
Hi Raffy
Re email message: I assume this is a TalkGraphics auto responder to a thread you're watching. Each time a new post is added an email is automatically sent to you. In this particular case we had 2 very similar threads about buttons and text, so in my role as Moderator I merged the 2 threads. Unfortunately the email link then became invalid.
As for how it's done: Do you have XaraX / XaraXtreme or XaraWebster?
-
Re: Help! with getting button and text in same image
HI,Egg! THanks for fixing it.I have Xara Xtreme and 3d6 and Websylye 4(which I haven't really used yet.)

Re: How to use graphic and text together
That is awesome Bill! Could you explain how you did that? If it is to long for the forum you could just shoot me and email. I tried like hellfire to do it and just couldn't figure it out! I guess that is why I am in the forum!!

Hey there EGG! Both of those are great but I am thinking of full rotations on both. I would like to know how you did both of them though. As I told Bill, I just have tried to no avail to try to include text and objects with no luck. Like I told Bill, if it is to long to explain if you could email it, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Help! with getting button and text in same image
Hi Magoo,
If you follow the instructions in the http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=14417 thread. After applying the textures open the Text Options window (the Aa icon on the left side of the screen). Place the cursor between the two discs and then click the Insert Page Break button (upper right of the window). The disc to the left of the Page Break will display during the first half of the animation and the one below will be shown the second part of the animation.
If you add additional text above the top disc and/or below the bottom disc you must adjust the position of the textures on the discs as they will be moved when the text is added.
BTW, I used the two images you posted previously and imported them into Xara Xtreme and made changes in size and trimed the Counter Terrorist Unit so it was the same size and the DHS image. Then exported each as a .jpg to use as the textures on the discs.

Re: Help! with getting button and text in same image
Hi,Egg and Bill!I'm getting there, but am still having trouble getting the whole thing to work. Here's what I've got so far:
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/5...orforum1ia.gif
I can get the top text to move with the disc, and the bottom text to move with the disc, but not all together at once.I suspect it's because of the page break, but am not sure, and don't know how to get rid of the break.
thanks for your help!
