It would be good to find out people's current resolution. I'm using 1280 x 1024 on 19" monitors on both my home computers.
i'm using 1024 by 768, i think...
Do folks with TFT displays still tend to alter resolutions or stick to the resolution the screen's optomised to?
Drifter, just right click on a blank part of the screen, choose 'Properties' and in the Display Properties window choose 'Settings'. This gives you the Screen Resolution and Colour depth settings. Click 'Cancel'
I personally go with the highest resolution the adapter and monitor will support with 24/32bit colour.
ok, that produced 1280 x 1024
1280 x 1024 on a lcd 17" with a dmi connection
I am mostly doing programming and always going for the largest size available from which I can attach 2 to a single graphics card.
At the moment that is 24" with 1920 x 1200.
At least for my desk thats the maximum that is useful at all. I have tried 30" which for fun for work with text and graphics, but if you play games too its simply too large to get a whole scene without moving your head left and right.
For working with programs like Xara, screens cant be too large ever I guess.

1024x768 and when I checked to be sure I lost my background picture and despite the settings saying it's there it ain't Grrrrrrrrr! got it fixed now.
1600 x 1200 20" liyamaTFT.
Great for games and then when you need a break you can produce graphics on it too.

1680x1050 on a 15.4" HP/Compaq laptop screen... If you used to that resolution on a laptop, you will never go back :)
You already know where I am egg...800 by 600. Looking at the poll results there aren't too many of us out there anymore.....still my last resolution was 600 x 480 so for me, things are still definatly looking up. Correct me if I am wrong but as far as I see things, you guys can see more but I can see better. This new computer of mine.....a 466 celeron, 6 gig hard drive and 191 megs of ram is a big improvement from the last and almost does everything it's asked, maybe in it's own time, but it usually get there. For me, life is good and never forget my big advantage......I always get to blame the computer!!!!!!1
1024 x 768 medium 16 bit color on SIS661FX with a Benq 17" lcd monitor.
Used this resolution for quite a while now, even when designing web pages. I run an online golf tour that the game requires this resolution also.

I use it's optimized resolution. I'd recommend it, as you get the sharpest image - although it's not the law. :)Quote:

I'm still using CRT monitors, so I've no hands on experience with TFT type monitors.
Another thing I hadn't realised until now is that in this new forum you can click on the numerical votes count column (underlined) and it lists the name of those voting in each option!
1280*800 15,4" TFT (VAIO notebook)
wouldn't want higher res on this small screen.
1600*1200 19" CRT (flatline LG)
...but for larger screens it's ok to go high.
20" hi-res TFT is on the purchase list as soon as the prices for good ones come down.
I almost always use 1152 x 864. This is top resolutions for almost all monitors around :(
I use 1920x1200 on a 24 " flat screen.

1600x1200 on both CRTs (a 22" in the office, 19" at home). Each CRT is in a dual monitor setup with a 17" LCD running at 1280x1024 (although I'd rather it were higher).
1024 x 768 on my little Dell Inspiron 600m :p
1024 x 768 also -- Ken

Small displays, 17 inch CRT's, but I have two of them for dual monitors.
1280*800 15,4" TFT (ASUS notebook)
1440x900 on both my laptop and iMac.
My good old Matrox Millenium G450 graphics card sends its signals to a 17" TFT and a 19" CRT, both running at 1280x1024.
bye:maak.
1280 x 1024 here on a 19" Samsung Syncmaster. Color depth is 32 BPP.
I'd just like to thank the members who have participated in the poll so far. There's some interesting results coming forward, not least the greater spread of different resolutions, probably due to 'wide screen' displays.
Keep your comments / polls coming in. The poll won't finish until the 28th July 2006.
1024 x 768 on a Dell branded Sony 19" flat screen CRT.
Wow, a lot of people running 1280 X 1024. Maybe I should give that a try.
