Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Egg, your videos are not only informative, but fun to watch!
If I keep watching and listening, I may start talking with an English accent...;)
Thanks a lot.

Egg, these videos are great!
But the link to "How to attach your Xara creations to a post in TalkGraphics" seems to be broken.

Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Egg,
These are riveting tutorials. It is a privilege to be able to learn from such a master. There are some good eggs on this forum.

Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
You could link all the YouTube videos into this page so people wouldn't have to leave it to view them. My tag at the bottom discusses how to do this in case it's not known.
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
I could have sworn that I saw a tutorial from Egg about how he goes about creating tutorials for Xara (a 3 parter, as I recall). I can't for the life of me find it here or on YouTube, where I would have thought it would be. Anyone know where it is? Is it still around or was it removed?
P.S. Didn't this thread used to be sticky?
(Full of questions today!)

Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Hi Odat,
I think you are looking for the thread http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=28298 which is sticky. :)
I seem to recall that Egg did a video about how to make a video. I cannot find a link to it at this time.
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
This should probably be broken out into a new thread, to catch the attention of people who have Xara skills and would like to pass them along via video tutorials.
Odat, if you're thinking of jumping in, don't miss this thread: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=30332
That thread shows a way to get a free copy of a previous version of Techsmith's excellent Camtasia software. If Techsmith has ended the offer, you can get the free CamStudio, but the latter is less feature-rich.
But technology is not the real key - it's putting yourself in the viewer's shoes and presenting what that person needs, in an order that makes understanding easy.
Egg is really good at this. I, OTOH, have to ponder every which way, and still end up over-explaining some things and making hard-to-follow jumps with others. -
EDIT: not that I've done any Xara tutorials. My Xara skills are pre-beginner... I've done a few for Real-Draw Pro, on YouTube under user name DaveGmn

Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Thanks Egg for the tutorials. I´ve been through about a third of them, and they are quite helpful.
Odat, I think the tutorial on how to make a YouTube video is on Xaraone.
If you guys work through the 3-part layers tutorial, you get the added "mini" tutorial on what to do when you lose your yellow sticky notes in mid video :D
Just kidding Egg--keep up the great work!
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Actually the free copy of Camtasia was what renewed my interest in the tutorial.
Thanks Scott! That is indeed the tutorial I was looking for. Now I see where I went wrong; All of Egg's other tutorials are listed on YouTube under a different YouTube user.
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Odat I found Egg's video tutorial about how to make a YouTube video tutorial. It is Guest tutorial #73 on the XaraXone http://www.xaraxone.com/guest/guest73/
Excellent tutorial. I wish I had revisited it before making my first video.

Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
can you please do a tutorial on how to create Abstract in xara xtream pro plzzz because using photoshop i kinda hard
thanks in advance
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
I've watched both Xhris' and Egg's videos more than a few times. Thanks guys. This thread should be 'stickied'.
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Nancy it has been stickied multiple times over the years.
If we never unstickied threads from time to time we would have a difficult time seeing new posts. :D
I'll leave it for Egg to decide if he wants it to be stickied again at this time. :)

Please could you explain that again because I have no idea what you are asking.
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Thanks Bill, that makes alot of sense. Some sites have so many threads stickied that you have to scroll down to see new threads.
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Stickys can become a problem if visitors view nothing but the top 6 threads as stickys(and it repeated on every forum drill down). If I read a post that I think my or another members video will be of assistance I'll post a link. Stickys need to be limited.

HOW can to create abstract
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Hi kash2K7,
Your question does not make sense in English.
Abstract is an adjective not a noun.
Abstract Art is a departure from reality in depiction of imagery in art. If you can provide an example of what abstract imagery you are referring to we may be able to provide some instruction.
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Hi kash2k7
It's a little difficult to be certain of what you are asking.
How would you personally define the word 'abstract' for your purposes?
Like this?
abstract: not representing or imitating external reality or the objects of nature; "a large abstract painting"
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
May I suggest that Kash2K7 wants to viewa video on how to create an abstract image in XX?
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Nancy I'm sure that is what he wants but we do not know what his interpretation of Abstract may be.

I agree, too many stickies can clutter a forum. However, one sticky -- locked and with only one post -- that would list all the links to the available resources (tuts, workbooks, newsletters, manuals, etc.) and relevant forum threads would be very handy. Each link could be accompanied with a short description and a comment about the author's connection to Xara.

If you could go through every Xara forum and thread therein, pick out then collate each of the suggested tuts, workbooks, newsletters, manuals, etc into an ordered list with a short description and author notes, we would be happy to discuss your suggestion in the Moderators forum.
Thank you
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Of course, I suppose you could have a Sticky forum. The place where all of the stickies could live.
Back on topic, What sort of Abstract Art style is wanted, does it have a name, or can it be likened to something such as "Mondrian" or "Jackson Pollack"?
Saludos,
Bob.

Thank you
I have an easier and more effective solution. Start with a sticky that lists the resources that are already well known (but not necessarily easy to be found), such as Gary Priester's tuts, Xara's newsletter archive, Egg's videos, Xhris' videos. When users suggest to add additional resources/links, the Moderators forum can decide what goes in and what does not.

Have you had a chance to check the Tips and Tricks forum?
Aside from all the user submitted T&T's (dating back to 2001!), there are listed collections such as:
Tutorials (with thumbnails and short descriptions)
and
Video Tutorials index.
-
Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Yes, I have seen those and I have tried out a few of the (video) tuts in the past. Please note, though, that the video list hasn't been updated since 2006 and the tutorial list not since 2007.
However, your last post is how I imagine the one-post sticky thread to look like more or less. One post, with links and short descriptions, but then more complete and kept updated. I especially would like to see such a list for XWD resources and I believe that many forum visitors would like it.
I understand that you guys are volunteers and have other things to do beside moderating. So, I am quite willing to put together a collection of available XWD resources but if it is not being stickied, it will only be a thing that will just get lost in 'the big (and rapidly growing) pile'. That's why I suggested that you guys do it.

Your efforts would be certainly be much appreciated by all members and certainly all forum moderators. We encourage and applaud such willingness by any member wanting to contribute time and effort to the TG community as a whole.
I would be quite happy to add your updated list to the stickies in the Tips and Tricks forum.
Thanks for your interest :)

Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Hi,
I'm desperate :'( I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
I try to implement the Flash Navbar as explained in the tutorial ...
So this is what I've done:
- New animation
- On Frame 1
- Create black rectangle 400W x 40H
- Name it as Background
- Within (on top) of the black rectangle, create a smaller white one 50W x 20H
- Name it as Button
- Rename Frame 1 into "Frame 1;STOP"
- Copy Frame 1
- On Frame 2, change the color of the Button
- Copy Frame 2
- On Frame 3, change again the color of the Button
- Rename Frame 2 into "Frame 2;GOTO Frame 3"
- Rename Frame 3 into "Frame 3;GOTO Frame 2"
Then I defined the following attributes:
- On Frame 1;STOP
- In Mouseover of the Button as Jump to "Frame 2;GOTO Frame 3"
- On Frame 2;GOTO Frame 3
- In Mouseover of the Button as Jump to "Frame 3;GOTO Frame 2"
- On Frame 3;GOTO Frame 2
- In Mouseover of the Button as Jump to "Frame 2;GOTO Frame 3"
A link is assigned to the Button in Frame 2 & 3 only.
Testing this stage, cycles the colours of the Button between Frame 2 & 3 as soon as mouse is over the Button.
In continues cycling when the mouse gets off the Button
But, as soon as I specify in Frame 2 or 3 to jump to Frame 1;STOP in Mouseover of the Background, nothing happens anymore.
So my question now is: what am I doing wrong?
I work with XXP5 build 5.1.1.9166
Hoping somebody can help me with this one.
Kind regards,
Joly

Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Hi Joly,
Could you supply the link to that particular tutorial? Some were created at the dawn of time and trying to remember each one becomes more difficult with each receding year ;-)

Re: Egg's Video Tutorials
Hi Egg,
The link is http://talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=40422 which you refered to in the first post of this thread. It is the one for creating animated Flash navigation bar and consists of 4 parts.
I also provided the XAR-file, without the mouseover-definitions for the background in Frames 2 & 3.
Hoping you can help me :(
Thanks in advance,
Joly
