How to Divide Circle into Slices?
I need to divide a circle shape into 8 slices (like you would slice a pizza pie into wedges). I saw instructions for this while ago, but can't for the life of me find them now. There was some kind of mathematical formula used, if I recall. Can anyone point me in the right direction or provide the steps here? Thank you!
Re: How to Divide Circle into Slices?
I would start by dragging two guidelines though the horizontal and vertical center of the circle. Then using the Shape Editor Tool (set to Line not curve) draw from the center a slice triangle. Click the last control point on top of the first to create a closed shape (it will fill black). Select both the slice shape and the circle and press Ctrl + 4 or Arrange > Combine Shapes > Slice Shapes.
This will maintain the circle but create a new shape for the slice.
Re: How to Divide Circle into Slices?
Thanks. The instructions I'm looking for seemed more mathematical and allowed you to create very precise and equally portioned wedge slices just by changing the numerical value. I need to slice a circle into 8 exact wedges. There was a whole thread on it a long while back and I had saved the link, but when the forum got updated or whatever, none of my saved links worked any longer. Do you know anything about that?

Re: How to Divide Circle into Slices?
Draw a Circle
Draw a vertical Line
Set the 'Snap To Objects' to on
Centre/Snap the line onto the centre of the Circle
Clone the Line and enter 45 into the 'Angle of selection' box
Select the line and the circle and apply 'Slice (cut) Shapes'

Thank you, thank helps. Math is not my strong suit so need that extra bit of instruction. :)

Re: How to Divide Circle into Slices?
Thanks for reposting this. After the horizontal and vertical guidelines are set, if I clone the vertical line, then enter 90 in the angle box on the infobar, the line does not match up with the horizon guide. It's just a little off. The line thickness is .25pt, it doesn't matter if the scale line widths button is on or off. I did check the help file and this doesn't seem to be covered. Also, does it matter if the 'cutting' line is drawn from the shape tool or the other line tools? Thanks for comments.

Re: How to Divide Circle into Slices?
Once you've drawn the circle and the line, you can select both and press and CTRL+SHIFT + L, and select Align centrally for Horizontal and Vertical positions. Click the Apply button.
Then when the line is aligned centrally over the circle, now clone it, then rotate it.
In the image attached, 'Apply' has not yet been clicked.

Hi emcat. Here's an update that should make things clear to you. I've included the Xara.file so you can pull all a part, both beginning and finish. Hope it helps.

Do you know if the Intersect All menu item was available at V10? The OP has V10.

Re: How to Divide Circle into Slices?
For those with access to the Online Content catalogue, there is the Pie segment smart shape.
You can get 45deg if you hold the Ctrl key down.
After that clone and rotate around the middle.

Re: How to Divide Circle into Slices?
Thank you Rik, I didn't think about using the Alignment tool to center the vertical line, I was using the Snap To Object to do that.
Stygg, thanks for the segments 2-2. I go back and forth between PGD9 and XPPro10, and tried all these suggestions in both versions. After selecting all the lines and the ellipse, I did shift+ctrl+S to convert to editable shapes. Then I did Ctrl+4 to slice, but only one line sliced, resulting in a hemisphere. After trying some other things like drawing the lines with different line tools, I finally grouped all the lines, Converted Line to Shape, separately Converted the circle to Editable Shape, selected all, Ctrl+4, break shapes. :-O
Acorn: you are correct, the Intersect All menu item does not appear in my versions. Also, the smart shape could be smarter. :-) It does not show the degree of the slice for the smaller slices. But maybe in a future version.
Unfortunately, the upload of my success did not work - I suspect it has something to do with a missing plugin. I was also sending along the image showing that when cloning and rotating the vertical line 90 degrees, it was not exact. For just a split second in the window on the infobar 89 was displayed although 90 was typed in. What can this be?
Thanks all for helping me get there. --Maggie
