can a .xar be changed to .svg??

Does anyone here know how to convert a .xar file from Xara LX to an .svg file which can be used in InkScape?? Can this even be done?
I have a project .xar file I need to get to another member of the project who refuses to use Xara LX :mad:

Wow, I can't seem to find any way to convert the .xar files from LX into anything other than PNG / JPEG / or GIF??
Actually, I just sent the .xar source to him and he's gonna try to figure out how to convert it....
It's tough cuz I'm not very familiar with InkScape and dont feel very comfortable working with it

post it here I can convert it - but, if there are transparencies it may not work

I am actually ordering the Extreme for XP this week ;)

all yours Paul - in theory its the same - ie 0040ff at 7.5% opacity [or 92.5% transparency as xara has it] - no absolute guarantee as transparency conversion is tricky ;) - have to zip svg :rolleyes:

Why not just download Inkscape and recreate the file for yourself?
It's not a complex drawing and probably a good start to learning InkScaping?

Ah... I have InkScape.... I really don't like it much. Well, not as much as Xara. I got frustrated after 2 hours of trying to figure out how to change the color of the footprint jpeg I imported so I could use it....
As I said, Im still new to pc graphics This was just because another person on the project wants an svg source of the work and I tried to do it in IS but was getting angry about the color thing....
Im still practicing with IS but, I'd like to know how to just convert files to be able to have the same exact work (and not have to redo it each time in two seperate programs) cuz "thats" annoying And this individual completely refuses to use Xara, which would actually make all of this easier, If he would just download Xara LX, take my .xar file, and convert it himself.... :rolleyes:

File conversion from one programs file type output to another programs file type import is a perenial problem which often requires jumping through many hoops - sometimes there is no alternative other than to redraw it.

I'm not sure about Inkscapes ability to change jpeg colouring or to use jpeg in .svg file type??

Ooops, No, actually, I believe I had exported the item I sent Steve to either png or gif and then opened it in InkScape... I had already redrawn the background, and then needed to change the color of the footprint.
I selected the print, and then clicked on the color I wanted from the fill colors at the bottom.
If I make a circle, and click on each color, the circle changes to the color I select, this does not happen with my imported object?? :mad:

I exported an item, which was a .xar file. I exported it as png. Then I open it in InkScape, and I cannot figure out now, how to change the color of that object in InkScape.

PNG is a raster (bitmap) format - not vector
Inkscape is a Vector illustration program with little in the way of raster editing.
It can however 'trace' imported bitmaps enabling you to create a vector result which can be easily recoloured in the normal vector way.

Good grief, so... what do you use for settings on the bitmap tracer, to get just an outline?

Hi on this cold Monday Morning

Sledger is right in that you need to learn Inkscape - a measure of redrawing is always likely as mentioned in PM - and once you have learned Inkscape its easy and the two programs are complimentary IMO :D

The bitmap tracer in inkscape is very good and will cope with this well once youve learned how to use it.

If you run the development version of inkscape '0.46' this has a bucket-fill tool that will fill the areas within your bitmaps - yes thats right, it will change specific closed color areas of your png import, you do not need to trace.
The important point being - these fills are vector, and can then be given stroke [outline] etc - another way to rebuild.
There has been discussion in the past about how useful this would be in xara ;)

Development versions are work in progress and liable to crash and need updating every couple of days, but its a route to consider.

Paul - here is the second svg - there are NO transparencies, sorry - they will need to be rebuilt, and I don't have time at the moment - but good practice with inkscape, as Sledger says.
Transparency works differently in xara and inkscape as has been said also.

So much to learn and more importantly to "understand" It's one thing to make the art... but it means nothing (somewhat) when you don't really know what you did to get it...
I downloaded the svg filter plugin for LX, now I just gotta figer out where to stick it
