bitmap fillings settings away?
hi,
ok i try to explain:
if i fill a simple shape with a repeting bitmap, i rezise and rotate the bitmap filling.
than i change the original bitmap in the external editor, activate the filled shape, open the bitmap gallery , doubleclick the adjusted bitmap to fill the shape, and now ...?
yes, now the rotation and rezising is away !!!
with older xara this was not happen!
what is wrong?
pls help

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
The new default for 3.2 is the bitmap fill fills the entire selected shape. And the fill is a Single Tile not a Repeating Tile.
I think the old way is better.

hmm.
no good news.
i', a fashion designer ans often fill shirts with a single repeat
of checkered fabric.
now if i chage the color i have to fill everzthing again and finding exactly
the positioin at the hem or sleeve is unpossible ...
any ideas?
or do have to stay at the old xara ...?

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
Yes,
the old way was much better.
Now even if you simply apply effect using the picture editor (e.g. contrast, luminosity or gamma) you have to re-position everything again.
The worst thing is that I believe that Xara has stopped listening to professional users, even for the Pro version

Hi,
sorry wanted to say copy/paste atributes
does only work with dragging new fill from fill gallery not replace bitmap

Hi rsrsrs
Let me add my discontent to this 'fixing' of something that was not IMO broke
what you can do as a work around is drag and drop the amended bitmap - but you cannot do this from the bitmap gallery, you have to do it from the fill gallery  [see release notes]
so:
create a folder and add it to your fill gallery using disc fills button [you need only do this once]
then export the amended bitmap to this folder and then drag and drop it onto your filled shape from the fill gallery - this should then work as before
EDIT - you may need to update the folder index after each export for the bitmap to show in the fill gallery [disc fill button/update] - this is a proceedure, but at least it means the original filled shape can be refilled without needing to be re-set which would be much more of a pain - in my case certainly
xara - why? - could we not do something like this from the bitmap gallery?

I heard/read there was a shift override to return to the old behaviour, but it doesn't seem to work for dropping new bitmaps onto bitmap filled shapes.
-
Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
I'll check that out too..thanks
EDIT: agree with xhris - shift overide dosn't work here - hopefully its just an oversight on the part of xara and it will get fixed...
-
Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
I have to add my extreme discontent of this extremely irritating change in for applying bitmap fills. It causes lots of extra work.
If Xara refuses to revert it back to the way it was, hopefully one of you programmer savvy people will come up with a registry fix we can use.

Having just been caught with this change I've been reading the help because I remembered reading something similar.
I think that the "shift override" that we both remember reading about was the extract from the online help below:
Quote:
Note: Dropping a bitmap from the gallery onto a shape will not give that shape a bitmap fill if it doesn't already have one.
This is to prevent you from unintentionally filling a shape like a photo frame border with a photo, if you drop it in slightly the wrong place. To drop a bitmap onto a shape without a bitmap fill, hold down the Shift key while dragging or use the fill tool to select the bitmap fill type first for this shape.
Xara Xtreme Pro 3.2 seems to have the "Noddy" mode turned on by default. I'm pleased that I'm not the only one who found the changes odd, but am disheartened to see others reported the same thing two months ago without resolution... Shame that Xtreme Pro 3.0 and 3.2 can't sit side by side - I think I'll have to install Xtreme 2.0 back onto my PC to work in the "non-Noddy" mode.

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
Try setting this registry entry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XtremePro\Options\ Dragging\SmartDropBehaviour
to 0
I haven't had time to test the effect of this but it looks like it should do the job.
Usual caveat: Only fiddle with the registry if you're confident you can do so without damaging your system.

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
Phil, it works but only when you select a new fill from the Fill Gallery. If you apply a different fill from the Bitmap Gallery it reverts back to single tile, original size and orientation ??
-
Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
I get the same results as Judi. Dragging from Windows Explorer reverts the fill to single tile, centered on the shape and rescaled to the shape's width.
-
Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
I'd like to add my voice to the ever-growing list of malcontents who dislike this new "improvement" in XXP 3.2, lauded as a reason for upgrading, when it
patently is not.
The more who add their discontent to this thread, the more chance of someone from Xara picking up on it and reverting to the previous way of doing things in the next release.
It cannot be a difficult process to undo this retrograde step, surely.
Saludos,
Bob.

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
Checking more registry entries I found another key. Combined with the change that Phil already posted the behaviour of bitmap fills appears to be the same as in older versions of Xara Xtreme and X.
Phil's post:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XaraXtremePro\Opti ons\Dragging\SmartDropBehaviour changed to 0.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XaraXtremePro\Opti ons\Attributes\ForceGeometryFitShapeDrop change to 0.
Usual warning about editing the registry applies.
For those that would prefer not to personally edit the registry the attached .zip file contains a .reg file.
Unzip the .reg to a folder on your hard drive and then using Windows Explorer or My Computer you can double click the file's icon.
You will be asked if you want to add the information to the Registry.
Answer YES and the changes will be made for you.
Answer NO and the changes will not be made.

Here's another .zip file containing a .reg file that will reset the two settings to their originally installed values.

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
Now that is very kind of you Bill... Gary should post them on the shareware pages...:)
-
Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
Yes, Bill, I think you've found the correct combination to return the program to the old behaviour. (Those two flags are ORed together - i.e. the "smart"/"noddy" behaviour will be used if either of them is set to 1.)
Note that if you have both flags set to 0 and you do still want a smart bitmap replacement then you just need to hold down Shift while you drop the bitmap.

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
Just thought I'd add my vote to returning the default behavior. Though I appreciate the need to attract new users with so called simplification it does tend to make professional users lives harder. I'm still not convinced that Xtreme pro is actually all that 'pro' when I keep running into stuff like this.
Maybe some sort of customization feature built in might fit the bill to avoid fiddling with the registry.- a check box for the 'early learning' version of Xtreme should you need it?
-
Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
Perfect, thanks for the registry tweak pointers.
I'm all for making Xtreme easier to use for new users because I realise that being more welcoming can help shift more boxes, and more boxes means more development. I think it was an omission not to allow SHIFT+drag in Noddy's photo album mode to force the traditional behaviour because as PhilM explained, after reverting back to the traditional mode the same SHIFT+drag forces the Noddy behaviour.
To keep everyone (new and experienced users) happy perhaps the Options screen could allow the user to select his preferred mode and allow the alternative mode on a SHIFT+drag

John, glad to help.
Phil thanks for the info about the ORed flags and the Shift Key option.

It's good to keep all the little add-ons and tweaks in one place, but Gary... you got the wrong one. Bill's *last* ZIP file resets the Xtreme Pro behaviour back to the Noddy default. You want his *penultimate* ZIP which changes the behaviour from Noddy to 'traditional' (for Xtreme Pro only)

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
I followed the information Phil posted and found a related registry key.
Making the .reg files was my pleasure and a way to repay all the help everyone here has provided.:)

Re: bitmap fillings settings away?
This is just to update everyone about how to achieve the older behaviour with bitmap fills.
The free utility program XaReg has an option to set the registry values to retain bitmap fill attributes.
Download the latest version of XaReg from the XaraXone:
