Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
Hi Guys,
I'm trying to import a pdf into Xara and getting the following error message:
PDF Import: pdf2xar exit code nonzero
I've never had this problem previously when opening a pdf in Xara
Re: Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
Can you just drag an drop the PDF from the desktop, or an open folder, onto the page?
Re: Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
At times it allows me to open it but the entire pdf is opened as a jpeg file with lots of info and all grids or blocks within the document missing.
Re: Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
Zaahir, does the PDF open in Acrobat Reader as it sounds that it might be flaky?

Yes it does. I tried opening the pdf in Illustrator and saving in pdf from Illustrator, but it still does not open in Xara
Re: Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
Other PDFs do work?
Check you have pdf2xar.exe in your installation.
Have you run the XDA as Admin?
Failing all this can you give us access to the PDF?

How do I check if I have pdf2xar.exe in my installation?

Not sure how to check or do the first 2 suggestions.
Re: Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
to run XDA as admin right click the program shortcut and select run as adiminstrator
Re: Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
use file explorer to check here:
C:\Program Files\Xara\Xara Designer Pro X11\Filters\ENG\PDFImport
for pdf2xar.exe, assuming you are using program version 11 as stated in your profile... if not, change path accordingly

Re: Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
The file does open at times but as a jpeg file. the issue with that is certain letters are missing from the document as well as all lines blocks/grids
Every page has a grey block which can be removed (see attached)
Unfortunately the site is not allowing me to upload more images

I've done this. But the file still does not open
Re: Importing PDF in Xara Designer Pro
ok, I'm not the expert acorn is in PDF documents - he asked if you could give access to the PDF, he may be able to help further if you can; otherwise it is a question to ask xara themselves maybe...

Pity, you omitted the file sizes but the datetimes are identical apart from you being an hour before me.
My guess is the PDF itself.
If you are not uploading to us then you need to engage with Xara directly.

Zaahir, the file sizes are identical. Only the msi file differs.
The PDF imports fine into XPro+ &XDPXv12 so it is not the file.
It does, however, only render as Shapes, no OCR text or text fields.
If that is what you are expecting, here is the same imported: Attachment 133985
If you are working on PDFs regularly then contact Xara for sorting out your installation.
