Ian apparently Thumbsplus can open .cph file and perhaps Xnview too.
Also there's a free online conversion service that might be worth checking out:
http://www.youconvertit.com/
Unfortunately the site doesn't load for me from Australia at the moment, though an online contact in New Mexico has no trouble loading the site.
Have a look there and let us know if it was of any help?
(Though 850 files might be a strain for an online solution:()
Hi
neither of the two programs you suggest will open cph files. Contenta doesn't support it either.
Off to try paint shop pro
cheers
Ian
Hi
would really appreciate it if someone could try to open the attached cph files.
I have loads to convert and I've tried:
photoshop, paintshop pro, corel x4,x3, irfan view, thumbview, contenta, paint, dreamweaver etc
but all failed to recognise the format.
I then (being very naughty and tired!) searched and found a "copy" of Print house V5
and installed it.
I tried to open several of the 800 files I have to convert and to my horror print house
failed to recognise the format.
So either I have the wrong version for these files (given to me on CD) or all 800+ are corrupt
cheers
Ian
Ian have your tried XnView? http://www.xnview.com/en/index.html
I have not tried it myself but I did find some references on pages dated 2005 that mention XnView as a coverter for .cph files.
A single license of XnView for commercial use is 26 Euros. It is free for personal use.
Hi
thabks but I tried it and it doesn't recognise the format
cheers

I just installed an old copy of Corel PrintHouse 3, but trying to open the files causes the program to crash, so it's not possible to save the files in an alternative format.
I've enclosed a screenshot of as far as I get. It looks like the files contain information, but I'm stumped as to what would open them.
Saludos,
Bob.
thanks Bob
problems, problems, have to keep searching for a solution. The files I have were given to me on CD so I might try to load the hard drive on a different pc and load them from the original files.
thanks again
Ian
This was in Corel "knowledge base"
http://kb.corel.com/scripts/texis.exe/kb/kb/search.htm
in search for text type .cph file
Using Print House clipart & photos in other applications
Article ID: 201905
Revision Date: February 08, 2000
The information in this document applies to:
Printhouse 1.0
How can I open Print House clipart & photos in other applications?
Print House is not a fully OLE 2 compliant application.
Therefore, it is for this reason that it is not possible to copy/paste
images from Print House into other applications.
In order to use clipart & photos from Print House in another application,
it is necessary to save the file in a file format that the other application
recognizes and understands. For more information, consult the target
application's documentation on file import capabilities.
Note: You may copy and paste items between Print House documents.
To bring clipart & photo images into another application:
1.Open a blank Print House document.
2.Drag the desired clipart/photo image onto the paper document.
3.Select File and choose Save As.
4.In the "Save in" box: by default, it will be
\Print House\user\yourname folder. You may change this to any other
folder or drive.
-In the "File name" box: Name this document.
-In the "Save as type" box: By default, it will be Print House Files(*.cph).
-Select the down arrow key to the right and choose one of the
following file formats:
Jpeg bitmaps(JPG), Windows Bitmap (BMP), PaintBrush (PCX),
Compuserve Bitmap (GIF), Tiff Bitmap (TIF), Corel Presentation
Exchange 6.0 (CMX), Corel Presentation Exchange 5.0 (CMX),
Windows Metafile (WMF), Enhanced Windows Metafile (EMF) or
WordPerfect Graphic (WPG).
Note: Save the file in a format the other application will be able to
read. If you are unsure as to what format will work, try using Windows
Bitmap (BMP) or Windows Metafile (WMF).
5.Click on Save. You may get another dialog box depending on the
file format. Select the help button in the dialog box for additional
information.
6.The file will then be saved under \Print House\users\yourname
or the folder you chose.
7.From the other application, import, open or insert this file.
I found a Corel Print House version 1.1 CD among the things my brother left me when he passed away 5 years ago.
It would not install on XP so I installed it on Win98SE (took two tries to complete the install). When I tried opening the two files in your .zip I received an "unexpected file format" error. The program successfully opens the sample project files on the CD.
So among us we have tried version 1.1, 3, and 5. Possibly the files are from version 6 or version 2000.
Hi
seems that I have been "fooled" by a data issue as well as a conversion task. 10 out of 10 for finding the article on corel site I did asearch for cph and found one article saying that coreldraw v9 has a flter that openscph files. However the article link just posted seems to cast doubt on that possibnility.#
Either way because (thanks to one and all ) my two files have been tried on several versions of PH it seems that they are corrupted in some way on the cd given to me. So on Monday I'll collect the dead hard drive and hang it in my old pc and see if I can read the files there.
In the dim and distant past I had a similar issue ona database and discovered to my consternation that it was so old that it wouldn't work on any hard drive over 2gb. I'd copied it to a 3.2gb ( yes it was that long ago) Another thing to try
thanks one and all and ---- watch this space
cheers
Ian
HI
Thanks for that, can I impose on yout good nature ?
I've attached a file emailed to me by someone who has CPH could you try to open it and let me know. If it opens it then I'm one step up the hill.
Thanks
Ian
Ian,
How do you know I have a good nature? Just kidding.
Yes, as you can see by my attachments, CorelDRAW 9 opened the test file without any problem(s). The first just shows a screencapture, while the XAR file is a copy and paste from CD9 to Xara Xtreme Pro 5. The vectors copy and past into XXP5 nicely and are fully editable, including the text. Woo-Hoo!
Let me know if you need any further assistance.
Cheers,
Harry
thanks, it seems that the 800 cph files I have are corrupted.
Thats the job for today then
cheers
Ian
That's a bummer. Are you sure? I find it hard to believe that all 800 are corrupt unless the computer they were generated on had a virus or the hard drive was failing in the area(s) where the CPH files were stored. If you sort the CPH files by date, then try to open some of the older ones vs. some newer ones then can you get any of them open?
Just a thought,
Harry
Hi
my project for tomorrow is to collect the "dead hard Drive" from the client, hang it on my test PC and to take it from there.
I agree with you seems fairly remote but .....
cheers
Ian
Ian,
Tried to open with my version - Corel Print House 2000 (which I believe is Print House 5) but although the files show as a thumbnail in the "open file" dialogue, I am getting an error - "Unexpected File Format" and a crash (probably the same as you are). I believe that rather than being corrupt these files have been created on a newer version of the programme.
Let us know if you manage to open them.
Hi
thanks for that I'll see if I can track down a later version of corel print house.
Watch this space
cheers
Ian
Hi
jusy found this via google.
Having tried renaming the files to .tif and failed to open them I'm off to search for printhouse v6 working on the principle that if v5 fails then 6 should work
cheers
Ian
"In earlier versions of Corel, CPT files are TIF files with the CPT
extension and supported in ThumbsPlus. In Corel 7 and later, CPT files
are another proprietary format that can only be supported through
Corel's OLE server.
.cpt is a Corel PHOTO-PAINT bitmap file, so yes TIFF would have been a likely format then.
However, your files are .cph type, which are not bitmaps, so renaming them to .tif will have no effect.
If you drop them into a text editor you can read stuff like:

Hi#
Ok despite my best attempts, I have failed to get a conversion program for CPH
However I have discovered that it was created using corel print house v6.
A search on the web shows that it is obselete and whilst sites list it ie amazon they have no stockbut there are a few sites listing an oem version for $29.99 which is ok because once I convert these files then they will be manipulated by corel x4. After that the software will never be used again
Has anyone used these sites?
http://lunderkin.com/search.php?q=corel+print+house
or where can I get a copy
thanks
Ian
Pretty much all of the software on sites such as those were never distributed as OEM.
OEM software is a special licensing system that allows computer manufacturers to supply pre installed versions with their hardware and in some cases allow third party manufacturers to buy then sell under their own branding.
I have never for example come across a PC system with an OEM version or CorelDrawX4 or Adobe Lightroom.
It's dodgy.
My Corel Print House 2000 was an OEM version that was supplied by Lexmark as a bonus when buying a printer.
