One thing lead to another, and ended up drawing a quick bottle top!
I've also attached the .xar file.
So, if you want to make changes to it, and want to make your own design - feel free to do so and let's see your designs in this thread.

Nice one Rik.
+1 from me, too.
Main font used:-Craft Beer.
Bob.
It's not a case of black & white ... oh wait, it is :-D

Here's another I did earlier next June

Nicely done, guys.
Bob: That's a really nice font.
John: The Time Tunnel? I certainly remember watching that as a kid.
The Black&White top - I like it, but, the font that's in colour, takes it away from the rest of the drawing, in my opinion.
What do you think?
I probably agree with you Rik, the colours could be muted and still imply "bursting with taste" ... or summat like that
Reminds me of a thread Big Frank started three years ago: http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthre...ttle-cap/page2
Another one from me.
That's actually a font called Modern King.
The font is free, for personal use.
I remember Frank's thread. Neat fun, Rik.
I often draw out beer bottle labels for fun. This one I just finished up the other day that I had started a couple months ago. I had snapped some pictures of the label and used them but then found some flattened images of it as well and so used it to tidy up the drawing the other night.
Unfortunately, the beer is long gone and I don't have a bottle cap. Looked for one on-line but didn't find it. So until I make it to the market to pick up a six-pack, the label will have to do...hope this is OK.
Hi Rik, one more sample.
Ciao
Roly
Strange as it may sound, Mike, I too had been thinking about labels as well.
You and anyone else are welcome to post their beer bottle labels here.
Even though I started off with a bottle top!
I have had a look on the net, but, cannot find a bottle top to go with that label.
However, I did find something that might be to do with Hopvalley, and be a bottle top.
Hi Rik, not deliberate, I was rushing
Ciao
Roly
Well, the good news is my wife brought home some beer (I cannot drive yet...). Bad news is she bought a different brand. Gotta get her to take me to the store!
I recently installed a new drive (larger and faster) and all my other labels are on the former drive. If I can pull them off later I'll see about posting some.
Well, I don't feel bad about posting mine then, Mike.
I hope it isn't the one you were going to draw?!
EDIT: After Mike showed that the bottle top is actually green. I thought I'd post another quick one here!
Hey, no worries!
But yeah, I had found that or a similar one a little while ago as well. But I'll still go to the store...

Nice one, Mike.
Never having seen one, I didn't know that the bottle top itself is green.
Yours looks great.
Thanks, Rik.
I have no idea if it really is green. And as they say about the first thing to go...what was it they say?
I'm pretty sure the design we ran across is the generic bottle cap for the company, though if I do recall they do change the color of the field and probably the text. But I dunno until I make it to the store. It bugs me enough that if I could walk to the small corner market, I would.
Edit to add...Whomever is designing their stuff use a lot of Google fonts in their work. Perhaps half of any particular design are using paid for fonts, but there is a smattering of Google fonts on most (and/or free for commercial use older fonts). The font on this bottle cap, for instance, is Microgramma EF Extended (a paid for font), though they lowered the two lowercase L characters to fit the design. Their script font on the label is Pacifico (Google Fonts).
Had another idea!
Yes, I know, the bubbles need to be darker ;))

Thanks Rik for kick off :)

John: Is that an 'Alice in Wonderland' reference?!
And I won't say anything about the bubbles! ;))
Igor: I like that idea.
We never had the Euro as a currency in the UK, though it is legal tender.
In fact, both ideas are good. :-bd
Rik,
I'm glad you liked the idea, thus sending the promised pound

Here's a beer label with Beach Bar as the main font.
Made in Affinity Designer so that the ligatures could be used.
Bob.
Great thread :)
Nice one, Egg.
I like the centurion logo. :-bd
It was only a while ago, when I looked at how many different IPAs you can get.
Don't know why I missed it, but, I did.
I completely missed you post about this label.
Beautifully done, Bob.
However, I don't quite understand why this couldn't have been done in Xara.
I'm not sure what 'ligatures' is, in AD?
Perhaps you could explain it to me?
All wonderful designs.
Here's my version. Not a real product, but there are boars head products from different companies I've discovered after creating this.

@ Rik and anyone else who might be interested. I used Affinity Designer (but Adobe Illustrator would have done equally well) because these programs can use all the features of open type fonts (as opposed to true type fonts) which allow one to choose from various alternative versions of swashes and other fancy bits of fonts that aren't available using Xara products. These ligatures allow more freedom of choice when using type in design.
See the attached graphic. You'll notice that the grey version looks quite good, but the black one has a certain pzazz that is unavailable when using Xara.
There is a work-around using Windows' Character Map, but the process is quite laborious. The font Swashington comes in two flavours; open type and true type.
Open Type allows more freedom of choice and can use all the features of the font as nature intended. Many, many fonts come in both flavours and it's a pity that Xara cannot allow designers to take advantage of this.
This is what we have been asking in the various Dear Xara threads over many years.
Bob.
EDIT. After all that, I never explained ligature so just click on this link for an explanation.
And another label for a Friday evening.
One the left, an image of a label, right is the Xara-ized version.
Attachment 113794
That's excellent, Mike. =D>
I saw a label that I might have a go at.
Probably Mike ;)
Don't understand, Egg. Sorry.
@Mike, TV ad. campaign that only old farts like Egg and myself from the UK would remember..."Probably the best lager in the world" Circa 1975-Carlsberg.
Bob.
Ah, cool. Thanks, Bob.
They're still doing it Bob, on pitch side advertising when there's a sponsor for alcohol who don't like any other brewer advertising. When Liverpool were sponsored by Carlsberg they had "probably ..." on their shirts quite often for the same reason :D
