Stop & Post February 2012
Welcome to Stop & Post February 2012.
Last month we saw posts for all tastes. From hot dogs (with and without pickles), palettes, cars, stereograms, cards and banners... They were few but good! Who knows what we will see this month... There´s tones of creativity running on these forums. So show us your work too.
It doesn´t matter if it is finished or not as long as it has been done with Xara software.
C'mon, don´t be shy. There´s space for everyone here ;)
Happy posting!

I've been playing with ideas prompted by Gary's Xone tutorial

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
I've been cutting out clouds from my photos to use in stereograms such as the one attached. I have added them to a folder in the Fill Gallery so I can drag and drop them into a sky.
I am thinking making a tutorial for the new Xara Xone on creating a stereogram like this one.

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
that would be very welcome Gary..
currently the only thing I am doing with xara is assembling art asset into single drawings - which xara is rather good at, its VHQ setting and pasteboard are most helpful - but no actual posting here as the artwork is, on this occasion, made elsewhere..

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
I like the Sterogram Gary, and a tutorial on that would be nice. I've been cropping all manner of things for adverts from cars to lattes and cookies. Here are some cartoon like blue berries I did a few days ago.

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Last weekend I attended a course on drawing mantra garlands and finished this drawing. These images are used in Buddhist meditation.
It is the mantra of White Tara. The way this mantra garland has to be drawn, is defined in a sadhana. The Tibetan/Sanskrit symbols should be white, so it was a bit of a challenge to get it done properly.
Because it has a lot of detail, I also included a detail picture.

Attachment 87076I am trying to draw a wine glass at the moment but haven’t had much time on the computer because three days before Christmas the doctor told me I had cancer. Still more drawing time though before I go into my wooden box. I’ll post the wine glass when I finish it...
-
Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Man what a nice Christmas present from your doctor Tabian. What kind of cancer, can it be successfully treated?
-
Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Doesn’t look good, it’s liver cancer..

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
That's not good news. Keep us posted. We are all here to offer our support and to listen.

What Gary said.

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
My thoughts and prayers are with you Tabian.
-
Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Tabian, I can only join in with the thoughts of the previous posters. That's what I like about this forum - of course it's about tools and how we use them, but it's so much more. There's so much love and empathy floating around.

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
You guys are the tops. My eyes fill with tears reading what you all have said, I love you all...

A temp office I worked for are 25 years in business, so I made a new logo to congratulate them.
Just for fun and it is cheapier then a gift, they probably never use it, like many gifts, again. ;)

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
This is what I'm currently working on in DP7. Its a detail from a 6 letter text to which i wanted to add a grunge effect. The font I used was a stencil font that already had a spray-paint effect and I embellished this by creating two clones of different colours, both given a fractal plasma transparency with a profile that punched holes through to the two text versions beneath. This method turns the text into pixels, so as I wanted a pure vector set of objects, I used the bitmap tracer to convert back to vector shapes. I had a white outline around the individual letters, and when re-vectorized, some spurious coloured shapes resulted. I changed the colour of the art board to a teal colour to contrast with everything and better to see the unwanted lighter colours. The end result will be a three colour vector grunge text effect. I still have one letter left to do. :)
Bob.

Sure you can, Barb! You can be anything you want to be but you can only be one person, yourself. But I suppose you meant my artistic skill. Sure, it's all yours for the taking! Just draw and doodle and have fun and observe others stuff that you like and want to learn from. Why reinvent the wheel when there are those around you doing stuff you like? Figure out how they did and what it is that you like about it, then try to recreate it. You'll learn lots along the way.

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Good advice Zeb. I know when I was delineating we all learned from each other. If I saw something I liked I remembered and tried to do maybe one little part of it. If I liked it I remembered it and if I didn't I promptly for got it. Eventually those things built up in my memory bank and skills. It wasn't copying just building up techniques that became my mine, by that I mean I would put my own twist on it and made it useful to me.
First you learn the rules then when you become proficient you can successfully break the rules. It's all part of learning your chosen craft.

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Aw, thank you Rik and angelize. I'm hoping to learn lots and lots from all you talented souls.
I was introduced to Xara by ... ta da! Gary Priester. I bought one of his CoreDraw books at Half-Price books and looked him up on the Internet to tell him I was a fan. Wow, was I in for a treat. We 'talked' software, and that's where I learned about Xara. I was impressed with the graphics I saw created with Xara, and download the full trial. Alas, I could not afford to purchase the Designer Pro 7, so I got the Photo and Graphic Designer 7 instead (on sale, no less). I miss the advanced features, but, who knows? Someday, I will upgrade. Sad to see Gary stepped away from the XaraXone.
-
Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Gary Priester has stepped away from the Xone, but he is still here at TG, and Gary Bouton, the new host of the Xone will keep us supplied with lots to learn and enjoy!

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Our publisher of our next book came up with the first design (black type on a green background) as part of the cover design.
I asked if we could submit some designs. Not that it will do any good, but it never hurts to try. These are four of my designs.

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
My favorite is #3 (eye.tricks.2.png).

Barb - Yes, I am still here, though not as much as I should be I expect.
-
Re: Stop & Post February 2012
I favour the same as Zeb and Boy. Eye-tricks-2.png is classy in my opinion.
-
Re: Stop & Post February 2012
Yep, I agree with them Gary. All of them are an improvement compared to the original but Eye-tricks-2 really seems the most appropriate.

Re: Stop & Post February 2012
By way of update. The publisher picked none of our suggested designs which has us batting 1000%. They have not used one design we submitted for anything. Last book we ever do with them.
