Cloned & Flipped horizontally and it instantly made me think of Mae West ;))
Thank you, Egg interesting, I had no idea it could be us, but I like it.
Here's mine again, but with knobs on (well actually, they're blades, but you'll get the drift).

Hey egg, are you going to draw a bigger chopper than mine! ;)
Indeed no, here's a smaller chopper. The scribble lines is in there ...... somewhere. It's like find Wally!Quote:

@ LarryYour wish is my command Wizard!Quote:
I hope so!!!
@ HD we're all ancient here!
LOL. Egg, that’s a nice chopper.
That's a beauty Egg.
You are so right Eggs is a beautiful chopper. I wish I had half his talent no a 10th of his talent would make me happy but then that goes without saying for most of the talent here on Talk Graphics. The few competitions for the scribble I have entered my entry was so simple it shouldn't even count. That's like I have an idea for this scribble but do not know how to make it happen as I see the scribble as the crown of a cowboy hat. Believe it or not I've made 4 or 5 tries and have gotten nowhere I know what I see in my mind. But cannot make it happen. Congrats to all of the entries.
Joe it's a scribble contest, just post what you see. Just fun.
Gypsyjoe, it' interesting you are trying so hard the scribble is NOT a contest just a bit of fun so don't fret over it just have fun with it if it helps find a reference image or two that may help you.
Is there something wrong with the May scribble line? I ask because I have been trying to do something with it but cannot.
When I try to select a node and click elsewhere it does not take.
Indeed there is Larry. The line has one additional node that loops back to overlay another. I've moved this node in this screengrab.
Looks like a friend of mine with a bad 'comb over' ;)
I can't get the lions eyes to look right. Cartoonists, what am I doing wrong?

Hi I'm no cartoonist or artist but I do searches as follows then use these images as a guide.

Larry - Egg - I moved your posts from the new thread back to the original challenge thread.
This is my take on itAttachment 129592
Much better, but you lost the scribble in the nose.
Now I've walked away and returned...it's the mane that's not cartoony. Ah well. next time.
How much to upgrade?????

its a minimalistic animal - you need minimaliistic eyes - kill the eye outlines they are out of style, there because you think they should be, not because they are effective - all you need is the ovals adjusted for expression:

:)
also don't get hung up on symmetry - perfect symmetry does not exist in nature on the macro level
using just a slight offset, as in my examples with the eyes, can make it a bit more natural with less of the cardboard cut out feel - but it needs to be subtle....
@handrawn, that's it. Small eyes, small mouth, large nose.
I actually like Larry's version the best, more traditional and majestic. Shame it lost the scribble.
larrys version reminds me of a mask; it is very good
Nice scribbles.
@hd, great tips about the minimalistic eye style and (subtle) non-symmetry.
I’ve just been trying out some linocut fill styles (Affinity Designer) and ended up with a slipper (as you do!).

I know I post a few things on this forum, but I am in fact in the same predicament and frustration. Most of what I do tends to just happen by chance (one thing leading to another) rather than design. The thing is, you've got the idea and concept in your head.
I've not done this myself (yet!), but I believe one way to get over this is to learn to draw with pencil and paper and keep practicing to build up hand/brain coordination. My bookshelf is littered with books gathering dust with titles like 'Learn to draw in a weekend' and 'An introduction to drawing'. The problem is I get excited about the prospect of getting stuck in, but then don't!
Meanwhile here's capybara (a giant rodent native to South America) or an unhappy alien.
