JUST RELEASED: An Update to Xara Web Designer
We’ve just released an update to Xara Web Designer. We’ve added support for some more advanced Open Type features and continued to improve tables, and we hope you’ll also find some great creative uses for some of the new SmartShapes and Layouts. You can find a summary of these and other new features on our website @ https://www.xara.com/web-designer/whats-new/older/ and full details in the Release Notes @ http://releasenotes.xara.hosting/web-designer-16/
If you have an active Update Service and you’re running v16.0 then you should shortly see 16.1 offered as an auto-update. If you’re still on v15 then you will need to re-download Designer Pro from https://www.xara.com/uk/web-designer/download/
If your Update Service has expired then you can renew your Update Service / upgrade in order to get this and other updates since your version (go to the Web Designer page on magix.com and click Upgrade). Fyi in addition to the Open Type and table support mentioned above, in the last year we’ve also added text flow inside shapes (all 3 were top requests in the last TG poll), plus there have been some things that you didn’t request but we hope you’ll discover their great value - such as the ‘get color from photo’ feature, auto-fitting text and auto-resizing documents. To recap on what’s new, or if you think you’ve missed some of the releases, you can find a summary for v16 on the What’s New page mentioned above, or older updates @ https://www.xara.com/web-designer/whats-new/older/. We’ve also got a demo of some of the 16.0 features at http://previews.xara.hosting/ColorPalette/
And a quick note on Xara Cloud: We were proud to officially launch the product in 2018, release numerous updates (more than one product / content release a month), and grow the customer base. We have been pleasantly surprised about the use cases and overall usage of Xara Cloud by Xara Desktop customers. People are finding ways to be more productive, opportunities to work with their clients not possible before, and enjoying the combined flexibility of an offline/online solution. We don’t announce updates here but you can follow progress on https://docs.xara.com/latest-updates.
For both desktop and cloud the Xara team has defined another ambitious product roadmap for 2019. If we deliver even half of it, then it is going to be a good year for both. As many of you know, Xara has always been a hidden gem, so we plan to be more aggressive with spreading the Xara message in the market. We look forward to your continued positive support.

Once you have renewed your Update Service, you would just need to download the latest version, 16.1, which you can do on magix.com or at https://www.xara.com/designer-pro/download/. You will be able to unlock it with your existing serial number.

Re: JUST RELEASED: An Update to Xara Web Designer
I do not know if this where I post but I just uploaded the new Xara update. The update was successfully installed but now when I click on "File/New from Content Catalog" a message states that "You need to be online to use this feature", I am online and in the middle of designing a website. I looked everywhere to see why only Xara will not connect to the internet and all my other programs do. Keep in mind this happened only after upgrading. Any suggestions. Thanks Duane

Re: JUST RELEASED: An Update to Xara Web Designer
Duane,
Try starting the program as an administrator to see if this corrects. Only need to do it once. right click on the program icon to run as administrator.

This might sound silly but have you tried restarting your PC? If that doesn't fix it we can run some diagnostic tools and see what is happening in the background.
Thanks

I found the problem. When Xara was updating I did not close out the website that was being worked on. Somehow the update affected that feature. I went to the backup file and opened a previous backup (I setup my backup feature to keep 10 backups) and the link works fine now. If anyone is reading this, the backup feature in Xara is very valuable. It has saved me many, many times, what a great feature. Everyone who creates websites should at least have the feature set for 5 backups. Anyway thank you for responding to my situation. Duane

Re: JUST RELEASED: An Update to Xara Web Designer
I have upgraded to the latest version.
Is there a deliberate difference in the way grouped graphics are exported? I have EPS logos in my file, and in the new version they are set to export components as separate graphics, rather than the group as a single graphic. Opening the same file in the older version, the objects are set to export as a group.
This is a real pain, because with a large site, it's going to take me ages to go through every group of graphics, in each variant of my site, and change the export option back to exporting groups as single graphics. Can this change be reverted in the software, or changed at the site level?

Gary, this has impacted others in different ways. Xara is aware. I would hold off making changes to everything until Xara works out what to do.

Thanks, Acorn. I'll watch this space, and avoid updating Xara on my laptop so I can use the older version to maintain websites for now...

Re: JUST RELEASED: An Update to Xara Web Designer
Another problem: my vertical navigation bar has stopped working.
This live version of my site shows the export from version 16.0: www.sela-sheffield.org
Please adjust your browser width to see the mobile variants with vertical menu, and notice that it works.
This is an export from the same site from 16.1. Note that the vertical menu is broken: www.wood-net.co.uk/garywood/sela

Re: JUST RELEASED: An Update to Xara Web Designer
Thanks, Acorn. My hamburger menu is not a custom built menu, but one of the nav bar options from Xara itself. I've discovered in further testing that Xara's own template sites that use hamburger menus are broken too! (See, for example, the Fading template).
Is there a way to roll back to 16.0 until these bugs are fixed?

Frankly I am unsure. You can log into the Magix Service Centre and look through you product list and download form there but I cannot guarantee, you will get the v16.0 out of it. Try http://dl03.magix.net/designerprox16_dlm.exe.

Re: JUST RELEASED: An Update to Xara Web Designer
Thanks Acorn. The version in the Magix Service Centre is 16.05. I had to uninstall 16.1, then install 16.05, but not it's back to normal. I'll hold fire on updating until the beta testing is done!

Re: JUST RELEASED: An Update to Xara Web Designer
Hi all,
Apologies, we're working on a hotfix currently to revert the default group export settings for now whilst we investigate these issue, which will be coming very soon (hopefully this week).
The original change, amongst other things, was aimed at helping a lot of new users who struggled to understand why their grouped text was being exporting as an image. This obviously had some unexpected and unintentional results which we are looking into. There'll be some other little fixes in the hotfix coming up as well.
Many thanks for bringing these issues to our attention and apologies for the inconvenience caused.
Thanks
Rob

The tablet issue was logged not long ago and is still under investigation, I can't say when it would be fixed unfortunately.
Thanks
