Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I have DW CS3 now and for the time being am running it alongside Ver8. i have a few sites with webstyle nav bars which i would like to be able to access and edit. i have tried reinstalling the webstyle dw add in but it doesnt appear to work with the new version. any webstyle features are not shown in the new CS3.
has anybody had any success with this or is there an update coming soon ?
cheers

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Did you solve this. Cos I had the same problem. I uninstalled webstyle 4 then re-installed, then downloaded the DW plug-in and it selected Adobe DW CS3 rather than DW8. It wouldn't install to DW8 anymore.
-
Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
sorry for the delay in getting back here - i had given up on anyone responding - NO i havent been able to get the plugin to work on CS3 - if there isnt going to be one then Webstyle is pretty redundant for DW users - and it is the biggest selling web design software ?!!

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Please provide the link or instructions where to find or get the Webstyle4 plug-in for us Dreamweaver CS3 users. Do we get it from Adobe or Xara? I would very much like to use the WebStyle4 with Dreamweaver CS3. I haven't found a better program for designing computer, easy to use, and friendly menus for web sites.

The current Dreamweaver extension in Webstyle and Menu Maker does not work with Dreamweaver CS3. The extension will be updated in due course to provide support for Dreamweaver CS3.

Can this be more specific? Weeks, months?
I would like to settle down and use DW CS3 as my daily work tool, but I have to keep switching back and forth because CS3 doesn't support WS extensions and some of my web sites have been built using WS themes and templates.
This is not a criticism, guys; just an observation from a legitimate customer who uses your product on a daily basis!

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I can get W4 to more or less work with Dreamweaver CS3 in the same way that it also more or less worked with D8. It works with 2 regular Javascripts error messages and the menus are not properly saved in the W4 folders. With a bit of fiddling, it more or less works but has never properly integrated with Dreamweaver - very sadly.
Xara advice to place files WS4DwExCore, XMMDwExCore, etc, when having integration problems I could not execute as the files they were supposed to replace do not exist.
I have now uninstalled D8 and will work to remove all W4 entries from my 3 small sites.
Such a shame, W4 has the potential to be so impressive but if it is not going to integrate properly with DCS3 its market will be very curtailed.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I've tried integrating the extensions in Dreamweaver CS3 but, as has already been explained by the Xara staff, they do not work!
I shall wait for CS3 extensions to be made available - but not forever.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Hi
Have you explored the Spry Menu Bar? If it is based on the Interakt one, then the CSS-based menu is a good way to go.
So then use WS to generate the graphics and the Spry tool to build the menu.
I still have the old DW with the Interakt tools and the menu builder works well.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Thanks for the tip. I'll probably give it a try when I've finished patching up the several websites I've deployed using Webstyle-4 and Dreamweaver-8.
I still have Dreamweaver 8 installed because I anticipated something like this would happen, therefore installed DW-CS3 as a fresh install. I'm now glad I did!

F*** OFF XARA PEOPLE: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Yes I am angry, No integration with Dreamwaver CS3 and no answer to any request.
No explanation at all, just ask for money to buy, they promiss DW integration and now no answer.
Hey, XARA it is not the way to act.
Why no answer? Why no solution?

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I agree with your sentiment pepito, though not necessarily with the way you've phrased your post.
My frustration is the same as that of other WS4 users - no integration with Dreamweaver CS3 (although that product has been out for a while), and NO response from Xara Support.
Add to that the constant emails I get to buy or upgrade other Xara products, and I have to wonder whether I am stuck with a 'useless' bit of PURCHASED software!

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I am also VERY annoyed that I am unable to use WS4.
An estimate of when I will be able to use it with dreamweaver CS3 would be really appreciated.

Further to the comment I made previously (quoted), using Dreamweaver-8 with Vista has been causing me major problems, and Adobe (current owners of DW) state that DW-8 and Vista are not compatible.
DW-8 crashes, without the chance to save any work up to that point, and one has to start all over again. Of course, the reason I am still persevering with DW-8 is because I still need to access WS4 templates to edit them, and I can only do that using DW-8
So please, XARA-peeps, how about getting those extensions out for DW-CS3 as soon as possible?

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
One month later, and no response. Not even a "... we're working on it". Now I note that other threads are also being started, rattling the cage for an update.
Hello Support, what's holding you up (pun intended)?
:D
-
Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I too have been pestering Xara about this integration. All you will get from them is that an update will appear in due course and it will be announced here.
I wonder if this will be an updated WS4? Been some time since it first came out ........

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Over THREE months since my last post on this subject - still no response from Xara Support.
Support ticket was responded to with a "... we will notify you.", followed a couple of months later with a "... there has been no activity on this ticket. We will now close it."
My response was a "Whoa! It is up to you guys to react." Nothing heard since then. For all I know my ticket has been binned.
Dear Xara, can I have a refund? I promise I will remove any trace of your crippled software from my many websites.
Over to you Xara.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I have to agree it is pretty poor.
Xara should take a leaf out of the book from the Sitegrinder guys, their product is amazing (if you are well versed in Photoshop) and their support is almost instant.
I will be very cautious in future purchasing software like Xara, there is just NO support...very disappointing:mad:

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Many thanks to all customers that have reported problems integrating Webstyle/Menu Maker with Dreamweaver CS3.
We now have an updated extension for Dreamweaver 8 and CS3 which we are making available on a test basis, we are looking for feedback from customers regarding how they get on with it.
To test the updated extension please do the following:
Uninstall the existing Dreamweaver Add-in from 'Add/Remove programs' or 'Programs and Features' on Vista.
Please ensure you only have one version of Dreamweaver installed (can be Dreamweaver 8 or CS3)
as the extension only supports integrating with one version of Dreamweaver at a time.
Disable any security/registry cleaning applications (as they may interfere with the install)
Close any Xara programs
Download the updated extension from: http://extranet.xara.com/downloads/b.../xaradwext.exe
Ensure you are running as an administrator, or on Vista, right click on the installer and select 'Run as administrator'
After the installer completes launch Dremweaver and look for the Xara options on the Insert menu.
--
In your feedback please let us know:
Which OS you are using
and
Which version of Dreamweaver you are using
Did the extension work for you? If not, what error did you receive?
-
Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I was SO excited ...
The "xaradwext.exe" refuses to install and complains bitterly that it cannot find a compatible version of Dreamweaver or UltraDev.
Is it looking for it in the correct place?
Dreamweaver CS3 now appears under an Adobe Folder - not in a Macromedia Folder.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Fletch what verion of Windows are you running?
The new extension works on Windows XP SP2 with Dreamweaver MX (version 6)
and on Vista Home Premium with Dreamweaver CS3 (version 9).
The only problem I had was installing Dreamweaver CS3. The first attempt locked up for over two hours. After a reboot I continued the installation which took an hour and fifteen minutes.
Installation of the extension for Webstyle integration took a couple of minutes and had no problems locating Dreamweaver.

A quick test of using the new extension to create a menubar worked as it was designed to work.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Thanks for the response Soquili. I am aware of your 'status' on this Forum (not a Xara rep), and respect your views on various problems to which you have contributed.
I am running Vista Ultimate and a perfectly good install of Dreamweaver CS3.
I am confident that the extension probably DOES work for my setup - EXCEPT - I just cannot get the darn executable to execute. It says it cannot find Dreamweaver, and that's a bit of a body-blow.
I really don't have a clue as to how to proceed. I've zapped DW8 from my system, which means that editing any websites I've built with Webstyle are now crippled. I've removed the previous Xara-Dreamweaver extensions. I've rebooted. So where do I go from here?
Any advice would be gratefully accepted!

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Fletch did you use the right click Run as administrator technique on the xaradwext.exe?
Are you installing on your home computer or a network computer at work?
If on a networked work computer check with your IT people, they may have Group Policy setup with some restrictions.
Do you have any ad-ware or spy-ware protection that may be blocking the extension installer from accessing the registry?
-
Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
1. Installing as Administrator
2. Home computer (workstation - as opposed to network)
3. (not necessary - see above)
4. Ermmmmm ... I'll be back AFTER I disable the darn 'security blockers'
Please wait ......
-
Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Soquili,
1, 2 and 3 above - no change.
4 - still getting the "can't find your proggy" error when activating the installer.
I am still convinced it is looking for a 'Dreamweaver' subfolder in a Macromedia directory. Since the installer doesn't ask for user intervention (i.e., "show me where your proggy is installed"), that is the only conclusion I can come to.
Any more thoughts on the matter?

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Fletch
I'll do some checking on the install of DW CS3 on my machine and see if I can think of something to check on your machine.
Back in a few minutes.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I'm BAAAaaaak.
Nothing stands out as being unusual about the install of Dreamweaver CS3 on my machine. It is in the Program Files/Adobe folder and not Macromedia.
Do you have UAC (User Account Control) enabled?
I have it turned off on both of my Vista machines.
I log on using an administrator account but still use the right click popup menu and select Run as administrator for all installs. If UAC is enabled that is the only way to run any installer with admin rights.
Also no other programs running when doing an install.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Thanks for the time you've taken on this, Bill. My setup and working practises are EXACTLY the same as yours!! Honest.
I will rip the guts out of my CS3 installation - reinstall - then try again to install the Webstyle executable.
I will be back in this thread to provide further information when I've jumped through my hoops.
Approaching 3 a.m. and I really should get my head down. Like you said ... "I'll be back!"

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Terry have your ran a registry cleaner program lately?
There may be traces of the older version of Dreamweaver lingering in the registry.
That may be the cause of the "can't find proggy".

My excitement also very quickly became less then exciting!
I run Vista Premier and Dreamweaver CS3. I had no problem installing the new extension and DW CS3 sees it OK but I get the attached error message:mad:
Any suggestions?????
Thanks

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Maria please describe the steps you took up to the point the error message popped up.
Please begin with your click on the Insert Menu Webstyle or insert webstyle object button.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Hi Bill,
On clicking on the insert menu I immediately received the error message I posted.
I noticed somewhere that one should only have one version of Dreamweaver installed, I forgot I still had Dreamweaver MX2004 installed.
I uninstalled that this morning, restarted my computer and tried to load the extension again.
This time I did not get very far and got the error message below.
When I opened up Dreamweaver CS3 on the insert menu the Xara options were still there but of course did not allow me access these and when I tried I got the same error message as I received yesterday.
I wonder now how I can get rid of the Xara extension, I tried looking for it in windows explorer but no luck. The extension, according to 'install/remove' programs panel, is NOT installed:mad:
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Maria try installing Dreamweaver CS3 again. When you uninstalled the older version some registry entries may have been deleted in error. Reinstalling Dreamweaver CS3 will rewrite those entries.
Then run the Xara extension again.
The installer will detect that the extension is already installed and offer to uninstall, see attachment.
If it does not detect the previous installation it will effectively repair the installation.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
IT WORKED!!!!!:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I reluctantly did what you suggested Bill (I am pushed for time) but it was worth it, and all seems to be working fine.:)
Thank you for your input, I think XARA should put you on their payroll!

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Bill (and anybody else that is following this thread),
I am here to report a success. Here is a brief breakdown of how things went - just in case somebody else is having similar problems ...
1. My initial installation of Dreamweaver CS3 was to a fresh directory, retaining a working copy of Dreamweaver MX8 in another directory.
2. This was a shrewd move in the short-term, as Xara dragged their heels rolling out the DW CS3 extensions. It meant I could continue to administer websites that I had deployed using DW MX8 and WS4.
3. When Xara rolled out the DW CS3 compatible extensions in the form of an executable, the installer couldn't 'find' the CS3 installation despite the fact that I had removed all traces of MX8 and previous Xara extensions.
4. Bill suggested a Registry clean-out. That was sound advice. I uninstalled DW CS3 and then cleaned (and I mean
'cleaned') the system of any residue of Dreamweaver, any version, any location (in Vista it gets lodged in some pretty wierd places and you have to drill deep), rebooted and then did a clean install of DW CS3 (I guess that's what installation disks are for!).
End result? A perfect working copy of DW CS3 plus Xara DW extensions. I've put the proggy through its paces, editing, adding, deleting, and generally being brutish to the programme and the extensions. No failure(s) to date. Everything working perfectly. What more can one ask for?
Since I was one of the LOUDEST complainants about the delay in rolling out the CS3 extensions, I just want to take this opportunity to say ... THANK YOU, Xara. If this 'beta' remains as solid as it appears to be, then the wait was worth it.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Maria and Terry I'm glad to hear your success with the extension.
Thanks for updating everyone. :)

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
I have had a decent experience with xara support, and also was excited when I got an email from them about an updated extenstion! Unfortunately after following the directions I received an error message when trying to insert a webstyle object into a web page.
Uninstalling DW CS3 and reinstalling would be a MAJOR pain, as I have a lot of extensions from other vendors installed and do not desire to reinstall all of them.
OS: Vista Home Premium
Dreamweaver Version 9 Build 3481
Error Message: "Warning from Xara Webstyle: Failed to register the DLLs required by the program!"

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Hi Jeff,
Welcome to Talkgraphics.
Try uninstalling the webstyle extension. To re-install use Windows Explorer to locate the installer. Right click the installer's icon and select Run as administrator from the Popup menu.
Vista with UAC (User Account Control) enabled does not run programs with administrative access even when logged on using an adminstrator account.
The error message about the DLL's not being registered is due to UAC preventing the installer from writing to the registry.
Just as a cover all bases, when you run Dreamweaver for the first time after re-installing the Webstyle extension. Right click Dreamweaver's icon and Run as administrator. This will ensure that Dreamweaver can register any DLL files it may need to write in it's registry entries.

Re: Webstyle integrating with Dreamweaver CS3
Hello,
I have installed first, for some reasons, the extension for Dreamweaver 8... Had found out that is was the wrong one and than installed the right one for Dreamweaver cs3. With extension for Dreamweaver 8 I had the possibility to click the xara button and got into the xara menu but had no chance to insert any navbar or something.
Now with cs3 extension I even don't have a button from xara or anything... I did everything as you said, right click, installing with administrator rights, started dw with adm. rights. My laptop is new, so no elder version of DW on it. What shall I do?
--> I installed again the cs3 add-in for dreamweaver and now I have my normal webstyle4 button... I can go into the xara menu, I can choose a navbar but I can either change the navbar nor save it or import it to dreamweaver.. all buttons except "start" and "designs" are grey and unable to click for me.
thank you in advance :)
