Picture frame design challenge
Here's a simple design challenge for those that are interested.
We'd like to create a clipart category of picture frames and cards. The idea is that users can just drop their photos on the frames from the bitmap gallery. These could be be used to make interesting photo album pages. Or some could simulate real picture frames so you can see what your photo would look like on your wall.
The cards are pretty self-explanatory - modern inkjet printers can produce fantastic quality cards. Combine that with the ability to customize the wording, photos, colors etc and this is a great use of Xara Xtreme.
To start the ball rolling here are some examples, that took me a few minutes to create. A not very imaginative set I must admit, but I hope people out there can create some better examples. Load the xar file to see what it's all about.
We have also put a few starter examples into a new clipart gallery section that is now available. Click the 'Get clipart' button in the clipart gallery to see a new Cards and Photo Frames section. These files contain detailed instructions how to use and customize them.
If you'd like to contribute some designs, post some .xar file examples to this forum (I will assume that by posting them here that you're happy for them to be used by anyone (as this is a public forum) but that we may also use any we like for inclusion in future Xara clipart galleries.
Oh, and that means if you include any placeholder photos, that you have the rights to these. We (and you) do not want to be distributing photos we do not have the right to. It's preferable that these be low-res JPEGs anyway just in order to keep the download file sizes down.
We've got some more examples that will appear in this gallery soon, and on the CD version of gallery. But I hope this will inspire some creative new designs from some of the artists in this forum, that can be used by the community.

Re: Picture frame design challenge
I have a number of these.
The card in the Xar file is upside down for printing on A4 paper on an Inkjet Printer (I use an Epson 950) to give the maximum print area.
These print to make an A5 card when folded.

A type of frame I have been making. I made it in pieces so that I could match the matt and frame to the image. I made lots of seamless tiles from butterfly wings for the matt textures. I wanted beveled corners. Rich

Quickie - Aged paper scan... nice texture. Maybe useful for framing too,.. file comes sans picture and unfilled frame (filesize consideration).

Here's my 3. These are older frames I created back when I was getting to know Xara X1 (not Xtreme). I still think they are very original and useful too!! :)

Another picture frame template. This one uses the tortoise shell texture that Panfer came up with several years ago. Her tutorial is in a .xar file in the last post of the http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?t=6662 thread.
I haven't seen Panfer post for a long time. Has anyone heard from her recently?

Nice frame, Scotty.
I hope that these frames are saved in a place with access to the forum, they are all great ideas.
Here's mine.
Note on the frame, you can change the dpi for print from 96 dpi (default) to 300 dpi on both parts of the frame, both are plugins but this does change its appearance, i.e., on the mosaic, it renders more tiles.

I'll showyou this silver frame now but I'm going to have to work on the .xar file some more before I can upload it --- its over a mb in size and I know I can reduce that.
The pic is my brother-in-law and his race horse. Harness racing is quite popular here on the Island.

Re: Picture frame design challenge
One piece of advice guys... If you use any plugin effects other than the default set of plugins, then they will not be visible in xtreme unless you convert em to a bitmap copy...
Nothing more frustrating then having half your frame show up missing for lack of proper plugins... :)

Mine were stock, but good point, John, if posted with an effect, a link to a free download, that would be handy.
Free is good, right?
