I've not noticed this so far. I assume this is a file originally created in v3 (else you may have mentioned the error msg's v3 shows when opening a v4 file). Does the file have any v3 Live Effects ?
Are you able to post the .xar in question?
this is independent from the file. it also happens with new files with just rectangle on it. it takes about half a second after the second click for the rotate arrows to appear.
Yes I see what you mean now. I can confirm this slight delay in Xtreme4 on my PC using Vista Ultimate.
I reckon it is slower than it used to be now you come to mention it
xp home sp2
I too can see it - have both 4 and 3.2 pro installed, and I can see about a half second delay in 4 before the icons change.. but personally, I use the ability to move the cursor close to the selection handles and have it just change to the rotation arrow. This way doesn't appear to cause any delays.
probably why I haven't noticed it before - I think I tend to do similar
I've noticed the delay in Vista and XP. Some designs require the center of rotation to be moved to a specific point before rotating. The new feature only rotations around the center point of the object.
that's right
if you want to move the center of rotation it becomes very obvious.
i don't like the lag.
Steve I meant to say that the new feature to rotate simply by moving the cursor near one of the corner sizing handles only rotates about the objects center.
To move the rotation axis (center of rotation) to a specific point you must double click and endure the new delay before you can move the axis.
I found that clicking the rotate button on the info bar when the selection tool is selected instantly changes the handles to the rotation/skew arrows - no delay.
Indeed it does :)
Time for a regedit dig....
Gotcha - sorry, my fault for reading something else into your words.
BTW: The keyboard shortcut for toggling the rotate handles is Shift+Ctrl+4 - which of course you can change to anything you like via the Customise Shortcuts in the Utilities menu.
The keyboard shortcut also activates the handles instantly. So it looks like a bug.
This has to go away, please.
I love Xara and i already bought v4 without even looking at it but i think it's unacceptable that it becomes slower / less responsive because at least for me the best thing about Xara is its speed.
I could live with using an older version although i really appreciate the boolean operations bugfix.
i can confirm that a double click on a group lags in x4 and is fast in x3.
if you rotate and copy the group 5 times every 30 degrees its fast in x3.02 and slow and laggy in x4
just test yourself with the attached xar.

I see this too - it's a good second of delay some times, and that can be when selecting a single (not grouped) object.
now that i ran over the text lag somehow the rotation arrow lag disappeared.
Works fine now, also in new files there seems to be no problem whatsoever!?
I don't get it.
You no longer need to double click (or rather I should say do a second click) to go into Rotate mode - we changed that a long time back. You can rotate directly in 'scale' mode just by dragging just inside the corner handles.
It's a real time saver. So I hardly ever use the second click now.
Having said that there is a delay in the second click, and we'll look at that.
yeah, but if you want to move the center of rotation, which i do often, you still need to second click.
Great that you'll look into it.
Though like i already said somehow the second click delay disappeared on my machine and i can't find a way to reproduce it like i could yesterday.
I don't remember changing any settings, just happened i guess!?
Good though :D
charles,
one page back in this thread i attached a file to show a dramatic speed difference in rotation of a group of objects and a description. maybe you'll have a look at it.
