Is there a created with Xara X stamp?
I would be like to credit Xara on my web pages but have been unable to find a suitable stamp. The Xara website encourages use of its logos but these are all either non-transparent or anti-aliased against the wrong colour background.
I have made my own attempt (below) but it is not something I am especially good at. Is this something the talented graphic artists in this forum can do better and perhaps make available through the XaraXone?

Here's a simple "created with" logo you might want to play with, including the .web file.
Nothing in comparison to minimiro's fantastic artwork!

What if we have a contest to see who can come up with the best designed with Xara X logo?
I would think that the best solution would work both in small size, 100 x 100 pixels as well as larger.
Any takers (besides the current entries)?

Great idea.
Should there be some criteria for this "maybe" contest?
example : size, basic words that should appear on all entries, etc...
May I suggest that our distinguished moderator(s) wrinkle out the details and lauch the search for "THE XARA STAMP"

Wow - I post my first message last thing at night and when I wake up in the morning you've gone and created a whole new contest. Fantastic idea, Gary. And thank you everyone for your responses.

I'd suggest we have catagories for animated versions and static "stamps". I also hope we keep this going for a while. I'm going on vacation and won't be able to contribute while deprived of a computer. (I don't know how I'll get through this vacation thing - it is going to be stressful!).
Keeping this going for a while also means any annimations would be able to use the "fix" xara ltd. says they'll try to release next week.

About an hour after I posted my "stamp," I looked at it and didn't like it. If contest rules allow I'd like to post some variations in a .xar file. The mirror-perspective logo was deliberately left plain for anyone to open the file and run with it. There are so many talented people in this forum, it's sure to be amazing!

Thomas, It's not that there's is a problem, it's that those designs are NOT showing off the full capabilities of this software. As we have seen in this forum, this software has been used to create incredible simple & complex graphics, CAD images, 3D images, paintings, photo realism, and much more. So why have a simple Logo saying it when you can have your choice of the work of so many ENTHUSIASTS who are willing to take this software to it's maxium to create this Logo! I think that says it all! (Keeping in mind, of course, that what appears to be 'simply made' in Xara is in most cases a very complex procedure in the other "graphic' software packages!)
So I say 'Hat's off' to the idea of a Logo Contest! I'd be more than willing to have mine chosen... although with the competition out there I've probably got a 'snowballs chance'... not that that would stop me either.
In fact I have been working on my idea(s) already!

Thomas, I seem to have started all this because when I visited the Xara logos page on the Xara website I ended up at www.xara.com/support/logos not www.support.logos/general as in your link. The logos page does not contain any logos and it was not obvious to me that I was supposed to follow the general link to the logos/general page. The logos page does contain the following advice -

quote:
SO that you can help spread the word about Xara, we have gathered together a number of banners, buttons, logos and screenshots for all our products.
You are free to use these graphics on web sites or in printed material, as you see fit.
Using the Xara logos & graphics
To download the graphics, right-click on the banner you want, then select Save Picture As... from the menu. Insert the images into your web page and link them through to www.xara.com.

I took this to mean any of the logos published on the website, since I had not stumbled upon the page with the rather nice logo collection. However, all of the logos on the site (other than on the page I didn't know about) are either non-transparent or anti-aliased against the wrong colour background. So, I posted my message and as you can see the response has been overwhelming. Is there a problem?

I don't think it's that at all... I think it's about having some fun and when a person is proud of the site he/she did, they might want to tell the people how much fun creating the graphics for the site was ... in thier own way. I see it as good free adverts for you too.
I also think it's great opportunity for Xara to encourage this sort of thing. A small contest like this can only mean win/win for Xara ltd, anyway.
This is by far the best (and friendliest) forum i've come across. All feel welcomed and encouraged to pursue X at thier own pace. With the likes of Gary, Ross, Ivan (bless his soul) and scores of others ... you can't beat it. So, if i'm reading you right, what's wrong with having a little fun ?
All the best, Wayne

Xara X stamp.
As others have pointed out, there isn't anything 'wrong' with the logos on the Xara site. As one of those people that fell in love with Xara X, we truely enjoy using the program and sharing our discoveries (good and bad) about how the program works.
We also enjoy stretching our creativity and encouraging others.
This forum and the Xara Gallery are my favorite places to visit on the internet.
Time to get down off the soap box and finish this post.

The idea of the stamp below was to use the figure on the Xara splash screen which I couldn't find (or screen capture) so my apologies for "temporarily borrowing" from the gallery.
A stamp of approval by any other name or face ....

Actually, I think it's great that there is an informal contest being run on logos. Some of these are fantastic. Keep up the good work. Who knows, perhaps even one or two will be nominated to "offical Xara logo" status.
My question on the logos already on the xara.com site related more to if there are any technical problems with them (as you say, anti-aliased to wrong background, non-transparent, etc.). If so, we need to take a closer look at them and rework them if necessary.
Can't wait to see more logos! :-)

The problems I have with the logos on the Xara site are -
The text on all the logos on the 'general' page is Xara Graphics. What I would like to do is give credit to Xara for producing the best graphics program in the world. But if I use an image like
http://www.stopscreaming.co.uk/images/test1.gif
it looks like I have outsourced my artwork to a design company called Xara Graphics.
The Xara X logos page does not contain any button graphics at all. The Xara logo is designed for a white background so does not work to well against a different colour. For example -
http://www.stopscreaming.co.uk/images/test2.gif
The only other transparent Xara logo I can find is anti-aliased against a white background so does not work at all well against a darker web page. For example -
http://www.stopscreaming.co.uk/images/test3.gif
And finally there are no animated 'created with' stamps (I seem to have inadvertently introduced some new terminology here - even I'm starting to use it now ).
It looks to me as if this contest idea can only produce benefit for Xara - there have been a number of very creative entries already.

Hi Thomas,
Its my feeling the issue is that the logos are bitmaps. I wish they were .XAR vectors then there would be no issues from the user's point of view.
Legally, for Xara, there probably is though. But a Guide Sheet specifying that the shape, character spacing, color of the logos could NOT be altered ONLY the relative scaling could be changed might resolve the issue.
I had to trace the bitmap logo included in the Xara directory on my harddrive, color it, and add the a drop shadow for the logo shown on the "stamp" picture above. It's the only way to get a good clean imag

Scanning effect?...
Since I'm not very familiar with all the possibilities offered by Xara, I probably made errors or complicated the creation process of this animeated gif.
Here goes my second attemp.

Hello
It strikes me that only the official XaraX logo can or should be used. Xara should make the official vector file available.
The only area for further creativity should be the final 'X'. This could be manipulated in any and every way possible, but always start and end as the original if it is an animation.
The alternative is that the XaraX logo be left alone, but incorporated in a shape that shows all the creative possibilites of XaraX.
A animation produced for one of each category of Xara effects. So if the site used bevels a lot. The animation would say that
'These bevels were created in XaraX'
and so on for
all the other major effects.
Of course there could be a general file which contained all the effects, and relevant frames extracted to make a particular point.
This would ensure a 'unified' style as well as maximum creativity.
Now I do wish I had some talent.

Since the conference is coming up with so many really cool designs, (but I know we can all do even better if we reall put our minds to it), how about Xara offering a prize or prizes for the best design(s)?
Maybe that would spur us on to even greater designs

For Mike, John, Brian, and others wishing for a vector version of the Xara X logo :
On the last page of the Xara X forum (currently page 13) under the thread titled "Can I have the official logo of XARA X in xar format??", someone named Mike has attached a Flare (.web) file of an earlier simpler version of the logo saved from Xara's site, and neither Xara nor the forum moderators seems to have objected so I guess it's okay to use.
While the spacing of the final X has changed, at a very brief glance the file seems otherwise useable for people wanting something as a base for all these wonderful new logos and stamps, and who don't wish to trace over a bitmap image.
Regards, Myles.
