What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
I am having trouble with the Publish website option as I get an FTP error Failed initialization problem which I raised on the Dear Xara forum.
Magic suggested exporting the website and using Filezilla. I did this successfully but then got the 404 File Not Found error. When I looked at the size of the sitemap and robots files in my folder and the size on those uploaded they used zero memory. I sorted this and now they now mirror each other. Using the Preview currnt website option I have no problem. But the 404 error is shown in Firefox and Edge.
Windows 10. Xara Designer Pro 11. Be nice if they gave me Pro 12 to download to see if the FTP bproblem follows.
http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2021blog/2021blog.htm is the site. Should I add other files here though xml is not allowed?
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
Did you FTP to the correct folder? I'm not sure what that would be with Xara Hosting. My web host uses public_html for posting websites. Most web hosts will have a similar folder into which sites must be published.

When I look at the hosted site http://www.pigsear.org.uk - it appears OK until you inspect what is happening. It looks like your Coin-Slider is generating a stream of 404 error messages for 8 missing images.

Maybe not related, but when you FTP'd from your local folder, where there specific slider related folders and did you FTP these as well?

The folder on the pc is named 2021files and uploads to 2021blog. I had no trouble on Sunday but yesterday I got FTP error. Timeout reached. but today the 404 error.
Filezilla does have the public_html folder but using Xara hosting no such file exists.
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
The site I uploaded to today http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2021blog/2021blog.htm and http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2021blog/2021bblog.htm don't have coin-sliders in them. There is a problem on http://www.pigsear.org.uk with the coin-slider where only three of the five pictures posted. But that is not the site I am having the problem with. I am mistified that the Preview current website option whe viewed in Xara is fine but not when uploaded via Filezilla. I just wish Magix would solve the problem I have with the Publish website as I can no longer use it to create a website using their hosting. Maybe I should copy it to http://www.pigsear.org.uk then upload it to see if it works there. the site http://www.pigsear.org.uk is not, obviously, hosted by Xara so all files are FTPed except .xar.
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
I have just copied the files to the pigear.org site and it displays perfectly. http://www.pigsear.org.uk/2021blog/2021blog.htm Something wrong with using the Xara hosting site?
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
How are you uploading to the Xara.hosting site? I just tried to upload a simple file and the page did not publish. There very well might be something wrong with the Xara.hosting servers.
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
I sent a heads up to Xara with a link to this thread. Check back.
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
Filezilla to upload. I have noticed however that the files the sitemap.xml(352kb) and robots.txt(56kbs) are uploaded with with zero kbs.

Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
They came up with this 'solution' which I tried.
hostname: sftp.xara-online.com
connection type: SFTP
Port 22
This is my response: From Publish website - Publish to an alternative website - Other web host via (FTP) - the options then are:
Connect using: FTP or FTPS (FTP over SSL/TSL) or SFTP(SSHfor SFTP-FTP) there is no option simply for SFTP so I used the last option.
FTP host address I entered sftp.xara-online.com
FTP username I entered my email address keithemmerson@talktalk.net
I left the boxes for FTP password and Sub-folder (optional) and Website URL blank.
The next box takes me to Publish to the Web were the information from it has been attached.
I fill out then next screen adding my password but got the Failed Initialization message.
I returned to the other web setting pop up and entered my website url of http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2021blog/ but get the same Failed Initialization message.
I forgot to tell them there is not option to add Port 22 anywhere.Attachment 129000Attachment 129001

i have no suggestions other than filesizes so big are totally wrong.
Your original robots.txt of size 70 bytes was correct.
At root level, you have http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting.
This have http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/robots.txt, which leads to:
http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/sitemap.xml, describing a single page site:
Code:
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"><url>
<loc>http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/index.htm</loc>
<lastmod>2019-04-21T19:15Z</lastmod>
</url>
</urlset>
The FTP Host address that I would be using is: sftp.xara.hosting. Port 22 is a default setting so you can ignore it.
I have looked at http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2019blog/2019blog.htm
There is a http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2019blog/robots.txt file but no http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2019blog/2019blog.htm/sitemap.xml file.
there is one for 2017;
Code:
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"><url>
<loc>http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2017blog/index.htm</loc>
<lastmod>2019-09-22T13:59Z</lastmod>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2017blog/page 2.htm</loc>
<lastmod>2019-09-22T13:59Z</lastmod>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2017blog/page 3.htm</loc>
<lastmod>2019-09-22T13:59Z</lastmod>
</url>
<url>
<loc>http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2017blog/page 4.htm</loc>
<lastmod>2019-09-22T13:59Z</lastmod>
</url>
</urlset>
Are you able to examine the Web Space for any of these sub-sites?

Yes I can see the Web Space for all my files.
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
I got this from Magix today:
I have just checked with our system administrators and have learnt that there was an upgrade installed to increase the security of the connection.
The old web designer programs are unable to work with this settings, hence the errors you experience. You would need to upgrade to some newer types of the program, i.e. at least version 16 (the actual version is 17.2).
You can find free trial versions of most of our products on our website (www.magix.net) under the free download section: http://www.magix.com/gb/free-download/
There used to be an offer to old version users but I don't see that anymore so seems like I will shed £87 for the lastest edition unless any one else knows differently? There was a time when Xara offered the deals, now its Magix. Need to be aware that may happen every six years, at the moment. Thanks for all your help.

I would buy a domain and seek out a free or cheap hosting service and publish there instead.
Otherwise use FileZilla and sFTP and bypass the failed XDA coding.
If you do decide to upgrade, don't do so until v18.0 is release on 22 March 2021.
I would also push for money back for the loss of access and time wasted.

Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
Thanks Acorn. I have investigated free domain but I have been unable find free hosting. A penny short of £2 a month is the best I can find. If you belive Magix will allow that to happen then I would have to pay roughtly £24 a year for six years wereas Xara's deal for X17 is £87 untill they decide to rip you off again with an excuse. I will attempt to get X18 for £87 as they mucked me about for 11 days due to their incompetence.

Emmo, I have just signed up to the "best" free service going, just to check it out: https://infinityfree.net/.
Beats anything Magix is offering.

LetsEncrypt is there, so free SSL.
cPanel is there, it's limited, but everything the average user will need is there.
Softaculous is there, so easy to install software.
Limited FTP accounts, but how many does the average user need?
Only down I came across was no email, webmail only. It states spam as the reason they disabled the feature.
Have to wait a day or two for the hosting and domain to make friends before speeds can be seen, but so far it's a very impressive free service. Thanks for sharing, Acorn.
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
Thanks Acorn. The only problem I see is that I have around 15 websites that are all linked to each other. 11 of these websites have up to 16 links on each site that I would have to update as you can see from the top of this site http://www.pigsear.org.uk/2021blog/2021blog.htm and whilst I can delete all the sites I have no way of redirecting them to a new site. I have contacted Magix and will let you know of their reply. Has anyone any idea of the cost of X18?

Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
I have accepted Magix's reduction in price for the current ProX17. Having downloaded it and edited the file showing the Error 404 page not found http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2021blog/2021blog.htm saved it and Published it I found I stil have the same problem. Next I tried saving and Published as http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2021bblog/2021bblog.htm. Having found I was able to do so I deleted all the 2021blog files and republished them as such. Still the 404 error. As you can see from the publishToxaraHosting jpg attached I re-saved and republished it. But as you can see from the publishToxaraHosting" jpg it saved the file as http://lc4mkm.xara.hosting/2021bblog/2021blog.htm ie instead of 2021bblog.htm it has not. Any solutions anyone?

Surely it should be like this Elmo?
Re: What is in the Current Webpage Preview pane is not found on the web.
Thanks Acorn I think I have been confusing myself however when I came to publishing the website as 2021blog it found the sub folder 2021bblog. Magix suggested deleting all the 2021 files and Exporting the website elsewhere so I transferred my site to an external hosting site http://www.pigsear.org.uk/2021blog.htm using Filezilla without a hitch (except I forgot where to save my files to!). Using Publish website option again went without a hitch.
Initiostar ponted out my coinslider errors on the http://www.pigsear.org.uk site which I remedied by replacing those with the error.
Thanks to everyone for your asistance.
