Does X3D7 have unique features or are they available in the flag ship pro version of Xara Graphic Designer 6.
Having bought X3D and XWD in the past, only to find the XXP/XGD updates over time include the other two, I am wondering which to upgrade to from my current combination of X3D5, XWD5, XXP4.
The flag ship application has none of the animation features of any version of Xara 3D.
Xara Designer Pro 6 is older than X3DM7 so could not possibly have any of the new bevel types. Possibly Designer Pro 7 will have the new bevel types when it may be released in June/July timeframe (based solely on the past release dates of Xara Xtreme Pro 5 and Designer Pro 6).
One of the things I used my Xara 3D 6 for was to animate my name to use in emails. I purchased the new Xara 3D 7 but can't do this anymore. What I create doesn't show up in emails like I created them. I'm really hoping that it's some kind of setting or something. If it isn't, I am so disappointed!
I don't at all like this new version. I am extremely disappointed with it. When I purchased Xara 3D 6, it was one of the best purchases I'd ever made. Being on a fixed income, I saved up for this only to find out I wasted $30.:(
Hello MP,
What is the format you are saving the animation in? I downloaded the trial version and right now have an animated signature sitting in an email. I saved out as an animated GIF.
Take care, Mike
Unfortunately the one new feature that I was interested in version 7, the transparent backgrounds in animations, is not useable for me. Why is this feature limited to the proprietary .cfx output format? For it to be of any use in my slideshowsand videos it needs to be in the .AVI or some other common format and not something that is limited to just your MAGIX software. Many of us are long-time users of other professional-grade slideshow and video production software and we have no intention of switching to other software, especially a consumer-grade program. If you want us to upgrade to 3D Maker v7 you absolutely must make this feature generic, otherwise v6 meets our needs just fine.
Hi JonP,
Your post seems to indicate you believe Xara reads these posts. The members here are other users of the program. Some Xara staff do visit the forums but there is no requirement that I am aware of that they do visit and read all posts.
Does your slideshow/video production software support Chroma Key? Many professional applications do support both Blue Screen and Green Screen Chroma Key transparency.
Turn off Shadows and make your background Blue or Green and export to AVI format. Use the Chroma Key feature of the slideshow/video software to make the Blue/Green transparent. That is how many users of previous versions of Xara3D work.
Bill,
So if I'm reading you correctly, when the company places a direct link to this page in the help menu of their product and they start a new topic with a statement signed by the Xara Team saying...
"We have released a new version of Xara 3D today named Xara 3D Maker 7."
Then I'm supposed to assume they don't read the comments sent as replies. - pretty bogus if you ask me. I participate in lots of other forums and the vendors usually take their customers' input a lot more seriously. Or is Xara just a company that is after our $ without caring about us after the sale is made?
Xara is a small company. Although owned by MAGIX AG, Xara Group Ltd. is a subsidiary that works independantly in England with MAGIX being located in Germany.
With every new release they are busy handling many tasks associated with the release. Larger companys that charge larger prices for their software hire temps to handle a lot of the extra workload getting a new release out the door. With Xara it is every hand on deck performing their normal duties and many others as well. Long days and nights with little time to check web forums. There is also work to be done getting other applications ready for new release if the past few years are to be considered as the normal cycle. Web Designer has been released around this time of year in 2009 and 2010. The company's flagship application Designer Pro has been released in the June/July time frame in 2009 and 2010.
I'm just saying don't hold your breath waiting for a reply from someone at Xara or that your suggestion may be included in the next update to Xara3D.
If you are not familiar with the history of Xara 3D, the previous release (Xara 3D6) was in 2005.
sorry but i agree with JonP
It is just a choke that i am sent from the offical site of xara to this site thinking the new release post is from xara.
Why should i use this forum anymore if i need a response from xara stuff.
So sorry but for me talk graphics becomes more and more a joke
Xara staff do visit this forum daily as far as I can tell:
PhilM, Covoxer, bb2, PeteS are all regular posters at TG -- some other Xara developers and staff also post where specific questions about their 'area' is posted and can help right away -- I've seen it :)
Forums like this and the other Xara-Users forum are a resource for users of xara software and it's members, where xara users have things in common and can help each other.
If you have an urgent issue and searching doesn't get you the answer you need here or the other forum, then opening a ticket with xara support is the way to go.
Other software vendors use pretty much the exact same approach, no joke ;)
Hi Folks,
I can't be considered a new member any more but I'm still relatively inexperienced in the Xara products compared to many of the persons on this site.
As has been mentioned many of the site's users are more than willing to help with problems people are having. Some of them have regular jobs and other interests as well yet when someone comes up with an issue they can't resolve, they, of their own free time, always, and I mean ALWAYS, put their best foot forward to help. Some of the above mentioned helpers know Xara at least as well as the Xara staff themselves so their input is extremely valuable. I have been able to do many things because of the help of those mentioned....oh, did I mention I'm relatively inexperienced in Xara?
One more thing to think of while we're at it.....there is a free trial that can be used for up to a month with all Xara's software. Please don't blame Xara if the program doesn't meet your needs, it is your own fault for not using the trial as a testing ground to ensure it is what you want and then posting any questions you have at this site. It is your responsibility to do your own due dilligence when the opportunity is there to do so....I've done this myself for any and all upgrades....there really is no excuse for this.
Having said all this, I'm sure if you give this site a 'proper' chance instead of just shooting from the hip, you will find it extremely useful, it's users friendly and a great arena for sharpening your skills, should you really want to do so.
Anyway, enough said......I love this site....and I hope you grow to love it too....It's a beautiful thing.....
Hello, I'm a very new user of Xara 3D. I'm wanting to use it to create animated banners for my website. However, I'm having issues with the type of file formats. Can someone explain to me...what file formats can easily import into the program...and how to convert GIF and JPEG images into the proper formats?? Thankyou
that is not how it works
you create a vector shape and import that
and then you use your gif/jpeg/... image as texture on the shape
see here for details:

You'd be better off lodging a support ticket with xara support.xara.com for licensing problems.
You could in the meantime try running the program as administrator (right-click the icon and select 'Run as Admin...') This should allow the program to write the license details to the correct place on your new computer.
not many companies give support [which costs money] to free trials - especially when the products are low-cost
plenty of support here - all you need do is ask...
I must be missing something here because I don't see the limitation you are referring to.

Hi Larry - I don't have version 7 of this program - but I think the point is that the avi export does not give a transparent background [which was also the case in previous versions, you had to make the background white/monochrome and edit it out in a video editor - what Bill is referring to as 'Chroma Key'] - apparently the cfx export does have transparent background option
Oops shame on me! Thanks Steve. :o
no shame :D
cynics might say it is no coincidence that cfx is a magix format
I of course am not a cynic
I work on a government site in South Carolina.
1) I have been able to download, install and activate Designer Pro X, but it will not run the "Download Content Installer & Pan Studio"
2) I have downloaded 3D Maker 7 from Xara, CNET and TUCOWS, all will run but the Installer wizard opens up empty with nothing to select.
Any ideas?
1] - check your firewall / corporate permissions [if you are at work]
2] - ditto
?
Yup, I am at work and we do have a firewall. If Designer Pro X loaded, installed and activated, would I not reasonably expect the broken parts to work also?
question for your techies - installation of a program and modification of a program online might be viewed rather differently from a security point of view
I have bought the disk and heard about the content package.
Tried installing the contents pack just to be stopped with the error message telling to to unlock it first. I went to the troubleshooting page and it told me to go to "Help" in the program and click "download contents".
There IS NO link called "download contents"!
Went back and scrolled down through totally disrelated links that have NOTHING to do with 3D Maker 7 (though it was in its troubleshooting page) and it told me to uninstall the program, reinstall it as an administrator, then download the contents pack and install that as an administrator... Didn't work! Still got the error meddage telling me to unlock the program.
It can't be unlocked when there's nothing to unlock when you have the program on disk!!
At wits end!! Either create a fix or give me a workaround so I can add the contents.
The download content option is part of the Help menu.
No It isn't.

It is on my system. Are you running the trial version?
I have downloaded the program and Its a great program for the price. I would like to know if the export with Transparency will work in Roixo Creator? I would like to put the animations into my videos.
I am not familiar with Roxio Creator, does it support the use of a Chroma Key color for transparency in video?
If you plan to use the .avi file format for your Xara 3D export you will need to use a background color that Roxio Creator can treat as transparent.
Hi,
I use Xara 3D maker 7 for video (not roxio tho') I use Chroma keying in my Porgram. I export from Xara 3d with a solid color background as avi file then import into Power Director Ultimate and mask out the background.
this is how I use the animations.
Jim
this programme is unique.. but how can i get tutorials for this programme as i am a beginner?
Sorry, this was a duplicate post. Please disregard my mistake. See actual post below. Thank you for your kindness.
I use Xara 3D Maker Version 7 and love what it's capable of doing expecially with text animation graphics. When I save the 3D Maker file I save it AS TYPE: Xara 3D (x3D) or as All Files. What file type should I use in the "Import File Window? Which File Type will permit me to import the Xara 3D text animation graphic file into my Xara Web Designer Premium 7 website?
Why is it not possible to drag and drop the Xara 3D animation file onto my website page? That would be the easy way to do it, but I guess that's asking too much.
:(I am having a very difficult time importing the animation file. Is there a special way to save the file before I import it? I was finally able to get the website up and published but can't get the animation text imported. Please Help! Thank you very much.
Xara 3D Maker 7 is perfect for creating animated 3D text for websites and create high quality 3D graphics.
Very Helpful in my graphic designing profile.
Hopefully someone that knows about the web side of things will come along and give you an answer.
Did you try export animation? From what I know that may solve your problem.
Either save as (name file) or export animation hopefully both. I don't think just exporting as file type will do it, what you need to do is save the file and export the animation you should do both. After you are satisfied you may dump the file and then if you have successfully placed the animation on your web page you can probably dump that too but don't dump either until everything is working for you.
Hi Larry,
This is a 4-year old thread. spdesignhouse, from Chandigarh looks like a troll or spammer.
I wonder if musicmanbob ever figured out what to do. He was trying to import the 3ds file instead of exporting to a final result like avi or gif which he could have imported into his web page.
We do try to be nice to everyone, even latent spammers.
A belated approach could be:
- X3D7 file > Export animation
- Save as Flash-Bitmap.
- Drag onto the Xara design page.
Or:
- X3D7 file > Export animation
- Save as GIF.
- Drag onto the Xara design page.
- With this first fram selected, press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+A and attach the animated GIF you just saved.
- In its placeholder body add <img src="index_htm_files/animatedfilename.gif" />
Appreciative of any other methods.
AcornX3D7 file > Export animation
save as Flash-Bitmap.
