Hi George,
I moved your post to the current *March 2010* Stop'n'Post thread :)
Beautiful spring flowers BP.
Very nice layout George. Welcome to TG.
Into March and still doodling ... a heroine of mine this time :D
sledger: thank you for your help, sorry for the trouble
bill: thank you for the good words and your welcome

Thanks Bill, Great drawing John, Welcome George in the TG forum and great Layout you did. Regards BP
Thanks BP :) I'm getting braver ... more fingers  :D
Superb likeness, John and I like the style, too.
Saludos,
Bob.
Much appreciated Bob, thanks :)
Outstanding "doodles" John.
Thank you Bill, also much appreciated :)
Sorry to hog the thread thus far - don't know where this burst of energy came from but I'm not complaining :D Yes I know I could have done this with bitmap trace in 10 seconds instead of 'by hand' in 5 hours but it's much more fun this way ...
Hog away, John! I was wondering what your method of doing these was, they look almost sketched and then scanned, or drawn using a pen & tablet - they look very "relaxed" for want of a better word. Keep 'em coming, I say.
Saludos,
Bob.
All XXP: 99% shape editor tool, rough shapes and lines [some of the shapes are actually lines] and as few as possible. With the image as model on one side of the screen I draw basic shapes and minimal lines to delineate, say, the nose then move focus to another area. It's just bit-by-bit and looks horrible until other areas are added - see below: I'm quite pleased with Dietrich's mouth and nose but look in close-up! Bang goes the mystique :D I can't draw, I'm trying to get an impression of the component parts in relation to others rather than reproducing the image. I'm learning basics as I go, along with how to use the tools.
It's labour intensive but very satisfying when it works. I like your comment about them looking 'relaxed' because that's one of the things I was aiming for. Thanks for the encouragement Bob :)
very nice work John! thank you for sharing your technique with us.
John, great drawing and outstanding likeness, your technique is great too. I like this drawing. Regards BP
Thanks George :)
Really wonderful work!
Thank you BP & Nancy :)
Two more ...
WOW, outstandig John, you did a great work with your technique, I like it. very well done. Regards BP
Thanks again BP :)
Just messing around in Xtreme ;))
That is a very expensive coffee cup Steve. ;))
John > I'm always a fan of the 'less is more' approach. I like your limited use of lines and color to produce such striking (and recognizable) images. Your latest graphics remind me of some of the work posted by James (JokeArtist).
Steve > Good to see you posting something you've drawn using XX again. Very creative of you. Well worth a 2nd and 3rd look, and more than deserves a thread of its own.
{Sound of applause goes here},
Harry
Thanks Harry :) Yes, I enjoy JA's work. Originally I had a black only rule, no transparency, stark and trying to use shapes to imply shapes, the same principle as the "5th arrow" effect below. The rule has now relaxed a bit :D
Not so sure of the likeness this time ...
One more  ...
Both of your recent drawings are very good...I simply do not recognise either of them. :)
;)) I thought that might be the case [not just you Bill, anyone ] - the latest is [supposed to be] Kate Bush, the previous one Greta Garbo. :)
I don't recall ever hearing of Kate Bush. I should have recognised Greta Garbo, although I remember her from more recent photos in her older years.
Kate Bush's albums are better than her singles - which aren't at all bad! - and her stage shows were ... errmmmm mesmerising :D Beautiful woman - original photo here! - which is my excuse for not capturing her properly ;) Household name over here - though reclusive now - I didn't realise she wasn't over there. Sorry.
I think there are probably more images of Garbo "wanting to be alone" behind shades and heavy coats than there are of her in her film days :D
I've come into this thread very late ........ Excellent work John. Wuthering Heights was my favourite song at the time .... That takes me back.
Thanks Keith :) Wuthering Heights - what a way to start a career! 16 going on 17 and she comes up with that. For those who don't know her or the song ... annoying that this vid cuts most of the guitar at the end but it implies a little of what her stage shows were like. And, to give an idea of her range, here's Babooshka!
Great works John, Steve this is realy great drawing. Here is some cartoonsdrawing, based on images downloaded from Internet. i like the colors in each one. Regards BP
Nice one BP! :)
One by me ... and another feller ...
