Try studying a real paper bag photo. Look at the lighting and shadows then draw your shapes accordingly making use of feathering and transparencies.
It shouldn't be too hard.
TG can help you with the techniques and show bitmap image examples if you like :)
Hi sylvan.
Here's first my attempt.
Used fractal plazma fills and fractal clouds fills and feathering and linear transparencies.
I think I got a passable result.
Looks good Rik, just needs a French loaf sticking out the top ;)
Here is a quick tutorial showing one method to create a paper bag.
Rik,
I compared your work with mine. I prefer yours. I can't use your system as I have xara xtreme, not the pro version. My original title was 'Bag challenge'. I wonder I it got changed to 'How do I draw a paper bag'!
Sylvan the fill types that Rik used are available in the non Pro version of Xtreme.
Well, I couldn't manage a French loaf but though I would have another go!
This time I used a crease fill from the Fill Gallery.
:)
Here is a quick and dirty attempt using Xara Xtreme 5.1 (non-Pro version).;)
Here is my attempt on paper bag, drew with the freehand tool from mind, objects cloned and applyed linear Stained glass transparency to clones.
Regards BP
This image uses the Creases 2 fabric texture from the Fills Gallery to add some "grunge" to the paper. :)
Made with Xtreme 5.1

hello. I've compared my bag with all the others. I must admit that I very much prefer all the others to mine!
Here's a bag if you're into recycling. :)
sylvan, If you like it, I will post a little tutorial.
Hi Psaumure.
That is the most perfectly ironed paper bag I have ever seen!
;))
I hope you appreciate my humour, or I am in serious trouble.
Here's a new attempt. Am I getting better? Thanks to: sledger, Rik, angelize, Soquili, BlackPanther, Psaumure
Hi Sylvan, your paper bag is better this time, very well done. make another one try.
Here another paper bag from me, but i don“t use brown paper, i wanted to go blue. hope you like it and you make another attempt. i wait for this.
I will attach the xar file to share it with you.
Best Regards BP
Nice stuff here. Thanks BP for sharing your .xar.
I created a 'wrinkle' brush to get the effect but it's not really working.. anyway, you get the idea..
Hi Nostaw, your are welcome, thanks.
Your bag drawing is awesome, the colours are very great, like the bag and the colours, if you don“t mind, may i say in your end drawing you forget to add the back hand for your bag, ofcourse man cannot see it, but the 2 holes in the another side of the bag.
I have attached an JPEG to see what i mean.
Again great work and thanks for sharing your xar file with us.
Best Regards BP
Great work Black Panther! I was thinking about it but thought to myself "no one will notice" he he he ;) It makes it look much better indeed I must say. Well done! Pleasure to share the .xar.
Thanks Nostaw, you are very welcome. I forget to say that your created brush looks nice and great to me, i must try to use it in another bag drawing, thanks for the brush.
Best Regards BP
Does this officially make us bag people now???

I just stop making illustrations in xara xtreme, but i will make one here, this thread is great.
:rolleyes:hope you like it, do not be hard with this on it“s not soo good, around 6 min making the bag.
you can see the image with a better quiality here: http://graphicrecipes.com/paper_bag.png
I will be using 3d software to make illustrations, I“m using xara just for graphic design and little illustrations like icons. I will make complex illustrations in xara just if a client need it, or if I think is better with Xara Designer, like a label for example.
Thanks Jose,
Here ist another version of drawing Paper Bag, I used Nostaw brush to draw with it on the bag as aornament or decoration, i must say Nostaw that your brush works on the bag and gives it feelings of the IIID drawing, great brush Nostaw.
Then used Named colours in Xara to create the same bag in many colours, i added then background with some wings designs.
So hope you like it.
Best Regards BP
As usual, beautifully done, Black Panther! The brush works well on your bag, who would have thought? Love the colored collage of the bags. It makes me wanna go shopping for pretty things ;)
