Xara Web Designer Updated
As Diep Anh - my colleague at Magix - announced yesterday (https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...f-Web-Designer ) we’ve released an update to Web Designer and Web Designer Premium.
This is a regular Update Service update but note it won’t be delivered thru the auto-update, you need to download the trial and install it. It’s free if your Update Service is current. You’ll also be able to run the 7 day trial again, even if you’ve done so before since v11.
You can download the trial on magix.com (http://www.magix.com/us/xara-web-designer/ if you are in the US, click the 'Free Trial' button) or xara.com @ http://www.xara.com/web-designer/download/.
Take a look, we'd love to hear your feedback.

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
A few things I noticed when I was installing the update. The install appeared to be hung at 50%. I noticed the product icon on the Taskbar and when I clicked the icon the install continued to finish.
Also, the install did not recognize my product serial number and I had to go to my account and retrieve it.
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Kate, you said you love to hear our feedback. To be honest with you, this update has had the least essential features. Photo filters one can find in any graphic application. I truly think if Xara team or Magix would look into other companies and try to come up with features that are essential like full screen video, data base, you name it. Possibly implement the features that people are asking in the Dear Xara section. I wonder what other users feel about this update which got the short end of the stick because of all the work now going into cloud.
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Noted behzad, and I'll pass that on (though I hope there are some fans of the Xara photo filters who would disagree). Don't forget it's just one of the incremental updates under the Update Service, and can't be compared with the big annual releases we used to do. Having said that I think some of the text improvements will be welcome, and we're hoping the new auto-fit feature will be well used, since it's especially useful for social media covers & posts (and we know the social media templates are popular).

Has anyone else had a problem with the installation??

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Kate - I am not sure how Auto Fit works. Can you give us some examples and maybe a short tutorial?
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Yeah, I read through that twice. But for me something is missing. There is a final step missing.
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
OK. I kind of see what Fit To Page does. I am not sure I would ever use this for social media, but it is an improvement when you create a variant in that the objects are resized to the new variant page.
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
I don't think it will work like this -- yet -- because the Auto Fit and Create Variant commands are not yet integrated. When you do Auto Fit, you don't have the Live Copy links; and when you do the Create Variant, you don't have the contents fitted to the variant page.

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
I tried it and it kind of works.

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Now you can make a tutorial! :)

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
This is my feedback on updating to v15 of Xara Web Designer (Premium):
- Do not deactivate or uninstall v12; the one you have been using up to this update.
- This of it as a get out of jail free card should v15 fail or have unexpected bugs.
- You can keep both and run both at the same time.
- Check if your v12 is 32-bit or 64-bit by opening v12 and checking the Help > About if it says x32 or x64.
- Search out your licence number (P3-six groups of 5 digits) now - it will be in your purchase email or possibly as sticker on the back of the DVD that you may have purchased.
- I tried logging into Xara for a list of my bought Xara products and licences - this is now all handled by MAGIX. Please log into your MAGIX account. There you can see your registered products and their serials.
- You get a MAGIX Installer, where you have to enter your serial number, and which you then run to download your upgrade.
- MAGIX will prompt you to further download their PC tuning application - I know of no reason to do this so decline.
- There is a percentage progress bar and the download appears to stop at 50%. The download has occurred and is waiting for you to click to continue. This option might be hidden behind other screens.
- I advise close everything other than your browser.
- Close any other Xara applications.
- Watch out for a flashing icon on the taskbar.
- Many install problems arise from the update being unable to replace library files that are in use (a common MS Windows problem) so a reboot is often advised.
- If all works, you have a Desktop icon that will ask you to register with purchase email address and licence number.
- Mine remembered the email from my v12 installation.
- *You should now have a working application - with no templates or design.
- Open a new web page.
- Pin the Local Designs gallery.
- Right-click (Components, Websites, Social Media, Presentations) in turn and select Download All.
- The Websites download will take the longest.
- Files will start to appear in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Xara\WebDesignerPremium\15\Cache\de signs\eng
- I advise burning the Cache folder and contents to a DVD.
- Total size is 2.38GB.
- Next, go to Help > Download content installer.
- "The content installer adds additional content that is not included in the free trial. That includes additional fill styles for the Fill Gallery and more spell checking dictionaries for other languages. It does not include any content for the Content Catalog / Designs Gallery - this is downloaded instantly on demand, but it does install into Windows fonts that are used by that content."
- Another MAGIX Installer.
- I would leave the Installation files on your PC.
- The Content Pack download is 46MB.
- Re-open Xara Web Designer (Premium).
You are good to go.

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
nope...
the only thing I have bought from Magix is Music Maker; all Xara product, I bought from Xara site - I used same email address and it would no longer accept my xara password [though I guess I might have remembered it wrong]; magix password was fine...

I could be wrong on this, but to keep your version 12 you need to select a custom directory when installing or it will overwrite the existing version.

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
I have WDP12 - I haven't downloaded V15, but looking at the Magix "new features" page, they are:
- 10 Photo filters and overlays - all available in the online content catalogue in v12
- 1 milion photo and illustrations - I didn't count how many are available under v 12 ;)
- Magic resize - could be useful on occasion
- Smart shapes - already exist in the content catalogue
- 24 new web templates - some are quite nice - btw the Music StudioX example shows multiple menus....
- Panorama photo slider - which I was asking about :) - assuming the horizontal and vertical dimensions can be changed independently
- Would love to know how this works:
Attachment 119376
Are the above worth a $50 upgrade - IMHO, I don't think so.
Some of the fixes I was hoping for:
-Fixed the so called "smart photo grids" -pic order on pop-up is really a PITA) -see this post - https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...rt-Photo-Grids
-Allow drop-down menus to use Google fonts - not just the limited "web safe" ones
-All software to work on 4k screens
-The ability to create text slides where the text remains text and is searchable
-

since this release is a new version: 15 - it should now install as before without the need for a custom directory to preserve your existing 12
[versions 13 and 14 appear to have gone the way of windows 9 - never let out into the wild :D]

You are wrong, Xara will now have a 12 and a 15 directory. I did nothing that download and install v15 and I then ran both together.

Xara and MAGIX have seriously got it wrong for failing to describe how to get your FREE upgrade, if you are withing their 365 program cover.
Do not pay anything and follow my Post, https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...238#post584238, above.

You should find it in Components > Image Resources > Photo Slideshows & Galleries, called Xara Slideshow Widget.

That's worrying, you should see the same products in your Service Center that you saw before. In my own account I can see products back to Webstyle 2. I recommend you send a ticket to Sales via xara.com/contact - if you have lost your product record I think Magix support need to take a look at that.

Gary I think you're right, the new auto-fit feature will help with creating mobile variants. But I suggest you select 'Auto Fit All Objects' and check the 'width' option in the Auto Fit dialog before creating the variants.
For social media it works really well if, for example, you want to adapt your Facebook post for a post on one or all of the other social media sites, or Cover to Cover, Profile to Profile etc.

Thanks Kate - however, it is no longer available in the online gallery of WDP12 - so does this mean that I have to "upgrade" to v15 in order to use it even though it used to be available in v12???

I agree, that would be a bad call on Xara's part if it is simply dropped. Until then, as you have access from v15 as you are still in cover with the 365 service, you could download it into your v15 Local Designs gallery and reference it as a Disc design link from v12 to the same location.

I got a full reply in the hour.
Basically, MAGIX create(d) a separate account with my old Xara login.
We weren't told and the password was trashed.
On gaining a new one, you need to access MAGIX Support and not Xara Support for it to work.
It may work through the Xara pages but I cannot get that for as I am being blocked because I have am blocking Cookies.

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Aaah - thanks Acorn that will work, but really poor if xara don't make it availble again in v12

I've taken a look at his answer and I read his answer differently. Your Xara and Magix accounts had different email addresses so I think he is saying that nothing should have changed, you should be able to log in to both accounts and see what you saw before. There is only an issue with passwords if you have both Xara and Magix accounts with the same email address and different passwords (in which case use the Magix password). So your old Xara login should work as before and you should see your Xara products as before. I recommend you get back to him and make it clear that you can't see the Xara products using the Xara login.

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Apologies if this is a stupid question but I am totally confused by Xara's product naming - I currently have Xara Designer Pro X (12.8.1.50861) installed, will I have to wait for this to be updated or will I be able to download the new version Web designer premium use my serial number and install it alongside Pro X?
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Wait for XDP to be updated.

Kate, different accounts with different passwords. The Xara account, which I have used, up to the switch, would not work. I had to "Forget my Password". When I did so, I could log into the MAGIX Support with either and see both sets of products.
What I can still not do is access Xara Support with my Xara login as it is being blocked because I am blocking Cookies. I could login with Edge bit I choose not to as it compromises my security.

Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Boy - thanks for the quick response.
Unfortunately I expected your response to be the case, which I find really frustrating, after buying Xara's most expensive product I find myself last in line to access new features! It would be helfpful if Xara provided even a temporary serial number to allow me full access to WD.
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Nobbyy, what's in WD that you need right now?
-
Re: Xara Web Designer Updated
Nobbyy, there's nothing stopping you downloading WD and free test it for a month if you can't wait for XDPX to update.
