I sent a business card to the printer and the color did not come back right. They told me " I see that you designed your cards in RGB, and they are outside of the CMYK printing perimeters. Because CMYK cannot convert the RGB colors 100% accurately,"
How do I export my images in CMYK format? I am using Photo & Graphic Designer 7

First you need to be working in CMYK color model mode. You can set this for the document in the Colour Editor (Ctrl+E)
Export using the PDFX-1a as well. No matter the color space, it will be CMYK.
Do design in the color space you intend as mentioned above. Do check the PDF following export.

Just be aware that the colors in the PDF file will not be as bright as those on the screen. This is the nature of CMYK color space which is a lot less than RGB colors. You'll have to go with the High Quality (300dpi images) setting as Photo and Graphics Designer does not support PDF/X

So when I take a current document and go to
Options ... View >>> Edit Local Color in CMYK color model
When I export it will it be exported as CMYK or is there something else I have to do? Do I have to change my colors so that they match the ones in Gary's pallette?
I downloaded the palette and the Xara Files are empty! Is that possible?
Yes monica it is possible.
Try the attached file, it is made from Minimiro's template and his CMYK color palette.

Check out the color line. The colors are in CMYK values. You may need to set your Options > Units > Color Units to percent if it is not already setup.
You may also need to turn off the Remove unnamed colors option.
Normally you would need to open the colour gallery and choose the CMYK.xar, right-click and choose 'Show in color-line' - but although the folder shows, it does not expand to show the included CMYK colours.
Bill's file appears to be incompatible with P&GD7 (or Xtreme 4, 5 and Designer Pro 6)

I can only use the colors that are in the color line in order to be ready for print?
Works very well in Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 7 on my system Steve.
Monica you can use the predefined colors on the color line and create your own with the Color Editor as long as you remember to keep the CMYK color model active.
You should also enable the Simulate Print Colors to see how the colors will print.
Do note that the simulate color option gets one closer to what will be printed, but the fact is that one is still looking at a back-lit monitor and the colors on-screen may or may not be even close to accurate.
If you continue doing work for print, I heartily recommend picking up some color swatch books, on printed to uncoated stock and one printed to coated stock. These swatch books are a far more accurate means of judging what CMYK color looks like when printed.

I finally got it to look like your picture. I had to go to File ... Open instead of double clicking on it.
So much to learn! Yikes! I still am confused but I will try to muddle my way through it.
If you have any other suggestions or tips please feel free to add them and I will study them.

Very odd. The CMYK.xar folder in the colour gallery doesn't even expand to show any colours, the colour line loads as the 'Standard Palette'.Quote:

Same thing in all other Xara versions except DP7 (which your file was produced in)

This is all getting way too complicated.
The CMYK palette that Minimiro created was before Xara had a PDF export. Design as you want and export a PDF file. Printers want either a PDF file or a CMYK TIFF which Photo and Graphics Designer can export but which I do not feel real comfortable with.
Try the PDF file Monica. See if your printer can work with that.
If you find you need the next step up which is PDF/X and which is better suited to professional printing, then consider upgrading to Designer Pro 7.
Also, a lot of printers can accept an RGB file and prefer to do the CMYK conversion using their own specifications.
I don't want to confuse or muddle this thread but Monica should know that any bitmaps placed on the Biz card will be still RGB even after exporting as PDF. Also that other RGB effects like feathering, shadows and any Live Effects will also stay RGB, which is no big deal, but it should be remembered, as normal software that is used by the printer will be RIP'ed. Other things that Monica should do is to use layers in her card with the text in the top most layer in the layer stack for cleaner printing. There has been loads of help given on this subject by Minimiro and if Monica does a search on CMYK and specifically looks for his replies she will gain a lot of good info.
