I restarted Xara Designer Pro X this afternoon and was greeted with a choice to do a 5 minute survey. So Magix/Xara at least are using a new approach to it's customers. It's not overly long either.

Yes I filled it out..
Sorry to hear that.
I took the opportunity. Not often do I get to do this.
hummm.. I wonder if this is a version 15 only thing...
They ask you to identify which product you are using.
I completed it too.
It's a shame that the survey was done so poorly that the 3 important features to add for the next version are going to be from a list of 6 incredibly inconsequential items that I wouldn't care if I never saw, and XARA are going to say "but you voted for them". Really ... You think anyone using Xara even semi-professional is going to want "New text functions, e.g. for name badges, cards & invitations" ...
Are these really the six best additions they can come up with ... again, I think that they are losing the plot. People have been asking for new updated vector tools for 10 years ... and this is what we get to pick from.

Once again, I don't want and I don't believe that professional designers EVER work from templates. This is definitely fast becoming hobbyist software. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but in my opinion it WAS professional software.
The first option, New Text..., sounds like a merge or variable text thing. But I don't know because if so, it should be worded that way.
There are a lot of on-line and specific stand-alone solutions for generating palettes that I don't think an in-app solution is worthy.
How can editing a PDF be any easier than with Xara products? It's pretty darn good now.
As for the rest? Useless to me and seeing how they update those 3 anyway, they shouldn't even be on the survey.
It seems like with these types of surveys, no one making them spends little if any time in the Dear Xara section.
@Gary - which product ok... but are the surveys just going out to the latest versions?
@Keith - thanks for the list; I guess xara don't want to hear 'none of the above'
I didn't get the survey option and if I go to menu> help> more designer pro x >online survey, I get a not available message.
Not that I intended to fill it out because I don't do surveys because the questions are always pointing in a pre-intended direction.
As shown by Keith it is also in this case.
Besides, the dear xara has a ton of suggestions to make the program better, let somebody do his job and collect those suggestion and create the tools we want.
Don't smack us with surveys that are only suggestive and that makes a point of direction valid ,as it simply isn't
There's a similar survey for XPGD although question 2 refers to XDPX. An error perhaps?
Julia
I have most of those tools that I want, Hans - but they are in other programs
I don't, and never did, have any objection to using more than one program
Yes Steve, I do use multiple programs/tools for what it is I want to do.
The point is that Kate told us that a certain survey pointed xara to have text in shapes, tables and more content, like pre-designed templates?,still find this strange for a creative program,a few to get started,ok,but paid?
Did we like that route?
These surveys are always suggestive to what direction xara wants us to go.
Is this just a data collecting survey or is xara to lazy to go through the dear xara forum to create the tools many others have suggested?
-real pantone support
-new/better bitmaptracer
-bitmap mesh/warp tool
-color mesh/warp tool
-perspective grids/guides
-better 3d wrapping
-better bitmap/vector brushes
These main tools need a real overhaul or should have been added years ago
I found the URL for Web Designer amusing: https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/44784...-web-designer-16 (c.f., https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/44780...designer-pro-x)
Regardless of the quality of the survey, do it as often as you like to get your points across.
If you have lots of different emails then this might up your chances of a prize!
The fact the survey hasn't appeared for v12 (and earlier?) is another MagiXara own goal. V12 does have a "marketing campaign" to 02 August, today, so it might be all planned or this Post becomes the trigger.Anyhow, use either of the above surveys and simply add your suggestions.
Personally, getting a Magix person sitting down and actually reading TalkGraphics Threads would have been more productive.
Acorn
Hans - I'm inclined to think that TG is only one focal point for collecting information about users wishes - I would think that social media figures these days; indeed the client interviews that Charles Moir referred to took place where? not here unless it was on a non public board...
these in-program surveys supports the feeling I get that TG is becoming if not marginalised, then not necessarily the go-to place for getting target users views... and anyway when you look at the traffic on TG most of it is web oriented...
thanks acorn for the link[s]
Had a look at the survey, thanks Acorn for the link.
It is as suspected just a marketing/data collection survey.
Because none of the questions asked are about the program or tools.
But only about who you are and if you use the OCC
This seems to be the point of interest(probably to sell us more content??)
So you think I could get my points across if I posted the wish list in the additional info a couple of thousand times?Quote:

Don't think so and besides why the money offer?
And they're not even consistent in the currency rates with this offer.
I don't have anything to do with marketing or this survey but we still go through the stuff in the dear Xara section. Yea I don't agree with Number 7 (Please select the 3 most important new features...), why only offer choices that you want users to select? (rhetorical, I know the answer lol)
If there's a particular feature you want to see, post it in the Dear Xara section and we'll take a look.
Rob,
Like Acorn and myself made clear in this thread, why the survey and not sifting through the dear xara section, tedious I know.
But like you said, being rhetorical gives the answers xara wants.
Don't put us in the same class as marketing here. We know and we do go through the dear Xara section.
It wasn't addressed to you personally, Rob.
Merely to point out that there are already so much suggestions made in that section.
I feel like a stuck record, but here goes again. Look carefully at the existing features and ask, how can we make these better? Or do we really need this feature.Quote:

Most of the time, new features are introduced and then promptly forgotten. Case in point the web animation features. The UI for the web animations needs a lot of work to make it intuitive. For example add more time (plus user defined timing). Make the sliders make sense. Add a series of conceal (opposite of reveal). This is one of the best web features and yet it has been orphaned while the search goes on for the next big feature.
Xara is such a great product. Make it better with what is already there.
We're doing that already, when the beta builds get released you'll see some of the improvements we've made to existing features. But keep adding to the Dear Xara forums also as it keeps it in one section and makes it easier to scan through.
Excellent news.Quote:

I filled out the survey also. I'm hoping this will produce good things....
There were a couple of comment boxes in the survey, so I commented, including comments on the choices available for one of the questions, and a comment to look at Dear Xara requests. These boxes are where we can make a difference, assuming that the comments are read.
As for "why the survey," this is undoubtedly to get feedback from those who don't follow TG, Dear Xara. However, the statistics that can be generated will be limited to the choices given, and as we saw, most of the choices did not include the most requested new features in Dear Xara, so the results will be misleading.
Agree completely with this....I'm semi-professional and have been using this stuff for decades, literally and have never, EVER used a template.
Following on...I haven't upgraded the subscription service yet, for no other reason than I don't want more templates, which seems to be the biggest draw to upgrade.
I don't believe they are listening but are playing lip service while maximising the attitude that you need this or that and must listen to what we think. Pity really after so many years. If a template is the be all and end all I might as well just go to Wix or use the many site building tools from the like of Godaddy, it would be cheaper.
Let's not go off-subject here and the survey horse has been flogged. This section is for TalkGraphics questions, suggestions and feedback. If you want to discuss the product you can start a thread in the Xara product queues.
Cheers
Rob
Hi Steward,
I've deleted your childish comment and locked this thread. Please remain civil and follow the rules of the forums. That's all.
Kind Regards
