Stu.
Although it looks as though there's more muscle detail in the head than in the body...I LIKE it!
Are you going to model some more?
BTW, thanks for the screen capture.
My Best,
Gare
when you finish...with right texture angle and light...it will look very nice...let me have it and I'll make it...
just the pic..
That is looking great Stu! The bone definition is quite meticulous. The textures should complement the muscle and bone modeling very nice indeed. Any thoughts on the color of this dragon?
Hey Stu, this dragon is getting there eh http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
You be one with patience eh http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Ok, the only thing that comes to mind here, and I am not a draon expert by any means but... I am wondering if the muscles around the jaw should be puffed out some, as in more pit bullish like, like less elongated and more roundish in spots... I dunno, whatcha think ?
Thanks Gare http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif ...ya I am going to even out the musclature.I am trying to work out the wing connections at the moment.
I will do the next capture with out a smoothing tag so you can see the shape better,I think its better then a wire, you can actually see something that way.
Waldodessa - Thanks for that very kind offer but I can pull off a pretty nice render myself ,thanks anyway http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Thanks Earl - I have this strange feeling of de ja vue..hahahahaa http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif ....color not sure maybe grey,I am using bits of T rex and dinos for reference,What do you think, maybe grey with a bit of black?
Thanks Gidge - Most of those wrikles I modelled look better without a good light rig, seeing how they look now though I am going to reduce some of them, which will only make the rest easier to work on http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Seeing as you guys are interested I will update it again today...have worked on legs etc.
Stu.
Looking good Stu. Make em A nice set of chompers man!
http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Hi Stu,
Looking good!
Soquili
Thanks Mike and Soquili http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Mike ya I am experimenting with teeth,I might curve them yet I dunno.Teeth usually use lots of polys to which is a pain in the bum,but I want to do it right.
Heres an update http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif ....I should do these images at the end of the day the dragon has another 5 hours modelling in it now..
I removed the smoothing tag iiiin the last one so you can see more of the mesh then you would in a wire.
Stu.
Stu, you've been obsessing on doing a dragon for, oh, I don't know...........A Long Time! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Looking good so far. Did you see "Reign of Fire"? Those dragons are just amazing. They show the age and ferocity that I think of in a dragon, just intense imagery. They inspired fear just to see them, and the film never caused a disbelief, even in my jaded "CG" eyes.
Hope this guy turns out good for ya, Stu.
Brett
Hiya Brett http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Ya I kept on coming to a point where I could not create what I imagined in my head, this time I think I might be ok http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Reign of fire, ooh ya one of my favorite movies,I have the DVD with the making of parts, excellent FX I was blown away myself. There Dragons were not the kind I wanted though,I wanted to try mixing and matching dinos etc and using the same anatomy and making up musculature etc. There is a company here where I live who seem to do some dino stuff so I thought I will make one which rocks and chuck it on a demo reel with other bits and go calling,I am however not going to rush myself ths time http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
What are you up to bud?
Stu.
Stu,
Yeah, I see the dino influence in the legs. Nice modelling on those, by the way. The musculature looks really spot-on (as if I'd know what the muscles of a dragon look like!)
Reign of Fire did their own thing with the dragons, and I'm sure it's better that you do your own thing with yours. I like the dino idea, seems more realistic that they might've existed one day in that type of dino-shape.
What've I been up to? Well, I guess you could say, work, work some more, hey, why not work some more and then maybe sleep. Six hours later let's do it all over again. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Oh, and in the middle of all that, my wife and I bought a new house. So, uhm, busy, yeah...
I kind of miss this place, it was the first place that I joined as a total 3D newbie (not that I'm any great artist now) and I miss the friendliness of this board. My CGTalk Lightwave group has degenerated from helping each other out to pissing and whining, so I don't go there much anymore (and I'm not on this computer much anyway).
Hope you're doing well Stu, I had been checking up on you over there at CGTalk, but I kinda don't find the time to do much personal stuff anymore, just not enough time for work/family/house/yard etc.
Brett
Cheers Brett http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Thats a shame about your LW forum,a real shame bud.I would still be posting more work in the C4D one only they whacked the upload limit,ya I know get some web space, but its a pain in the butt.
Hope your new house is cool bud and that everything went swimmingly {where did that saying come from swimmingly}.
I put an order in with the "win lotto now please" guy so maybe that will help http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif it better because I will break his knee caps if you dont win...http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I will keep updating the images so you can check them out then Brett even if you are busy http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Cheers
Stu.
Keep at er Stu, this dragon will be done in no time, and look ferocious I am sure... remember the BIG teeth http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Swimmingly ? Wow, that's a pretty big word there bud, somebody buy you a dictionary and you be practicing... hell, I couldn't even spell it right ifn's I didn't copy from you hahaha http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Glad your the one modeling this here dragon, way too many poly's for ole gidge to even concider wrapping ones head around... tweak this, extrude that, tweak this, F that hahahaha http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif You be the poly pusher dude http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
LW forum stuff... hehe, I will leave this topic alone http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Lotto... me first, me first... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Hi Brett... new house, family, work, yup, busy busy for sure... but hey, I bet ya wouldn't have it any other way eh? Very nice life you have there Brett... good on ya http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Oh, and yea, welcome back eh http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Cheers Gidge http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
As long as you guys are interested I will keep posting updates, but I dont want to bore anyone to tears eh.I suppose its hard to see that I have changed anything at all..
Stu.
I watch for any change in any poly there Stu, I mean every time one looks at a shaded pic one should come away with knowlege eh... and that's half the battle... bored? hardly, it's 3D eh... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
btw, here's a question to ponder... Do dino's have viens or cartilage showing through the skin?
Hmmm not sure there,I suppose it depends on skin thickness and musculature over all.Cant say I have seen veins on a T rex but then again I suppose artistic licence would also be cool,I want something that looks a mass of lean muscle, kinda like a thouroughbred horsie I suppose http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif ,whether I can pull it off is another story...
Stu,
Yeah, the old LW forum really doesn't see any action now, it's amazing the amount of stuff I used to learn there, and now....hardly any sharing going on and flames being thrown...ahh, well, you know how it goes...
Thanks for the well-wishes, yes, the new house and all is going "swimmingly" (I like that!). Kids get to go to alot better schools and all is well there. Haven't heard from your Lotto guy yet (hope he calls soon, I fear for his kneecaps). http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
gidgit, thanks, yes, I wouldn't have it any other way! Busy hands and a busy mind are always a good thing, although I'm looking forward to my first vacation in 9 months (and we're moving during it) so hopefully I can "recharge" a bit. Only sad thing is I have to give up my cable modem, no high-speed in the new house http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/mad.gif . Thanks for the welcome back, I haven't really been gone, I always check in here, just rarely post anymore. Might have to change that! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Take care guys...
Brett
Edit----
Hey, 201 posts! I know, not much, but I just realized that!
Off to bed now...
End Edit----
One more edit:
On the veins-showing-through-the-skin thing, I think this would be entirely up to you, acceptable either way. I remember seeing the "making of" the first Jurassic Park, and them talking about the fact that noone really knows what their skin looked like, and muscle groups can only be guessed from bone structure, etc. I mean, there are obvious anchor points for musculature, and the size of the bones tells us the size of the muscle that must have been there to move and support the size of the bones, but that's where science ends and speculation begins.
True artistic license, it seems...
Goodnight already!
Brett

Night bud http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Great the kids get a better school to go to http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Ah well join the 56ers again Brett http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Ya am inventing muscles for wing insertions etc, acck ...
Stu.
Update...
2 more.
One was just a quick and nasty tex tryout to see how everything looked http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Stu.
.
Tex is looking pretty good, are you making some arms?
http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Cheers Mike http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Arms ya I cant decide whether to have them attached to the wings or separate...opinions guys???
Stu.
Here's a link I found at the Wings 3D forum, that might be of interest: Enrico Valenza's tutorials (check out the dino stuff)
About the wings I would suggest some kind of "bat wings", I think it is biologically more logical (if you can talk about "logic" when it comes to dragons http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif )
-Paul
Thanks Paul http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
If you like Dragons at all check out "Reign Of Fire" ,excellent movie,I am biased though because it has Dragons http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I am off to check out that link http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Stu.
Thats an excellent Dino link Paul [thumbsup]
Nicer musclature!
My Best,
Gare
Thanks Gare http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Stu.
Hi Stu, looking good bud... and teeth, hey hey... as for arm I think little short ones like those found on a rex, and wings http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Then again Mike would probably have a far better idea than myself as to just what a dragon is supposed to look like http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR> Arms ya I cant decide whether to have them attached to the wings or separate...opinions guys???
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
Stu, some dragons don't have wings, best to make them as an add ons, then you can remove em if desired, Its up to you. The average dragons arm anatomy is about the same as a human male, you can add some spikes, a large one at the elbow and smaller ones along the outside of the wrist if desired.
cheers Mike http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Heres my arms,I dont like the claws I need to tweak those yet.
hey hey, right on Stu... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
now then, the way I see's it, the arms could be a tad less lengthy, and then... Wings on the back... ooh how this would look so cool... only my opinion of course http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
I sure hope the C4D v8.2 comes out soon...
Hi Stu,
Each update is looking better and better. I've been thinking about how wings would be added to your creation. I think the wing's shoulder would be forward of the arm shoulder (closer to the neck and head). As the dragon is eating it's pray, it would put it's wings down as a shield to prevent another predator from trying to take the meal (as if anything would even try). With the wing shoulder foward it would not interfere with movement of the arms.
Just my two cents http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Soquili
Thanks guys
- Gidge a tad less lengthy,ya I will nail that joint I made actually its the problem there.
Soquili - good thinking http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif ,I was actually going to have that shouder as the insert for the wing and not the arm but I will do some tweaking.
Stu.
Shorter arms, tweaked the claws {not sure if the claws get whacked yet or not} added some muscle to the rib cage area and tried to differentiate between the wing insertion and the arm http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I think the foot needs some work..
Stu.
Hi Stu,
Looks like you are getting on very well with this dragon. I look forward to seeing more updates.
Soquili
Cheers Soquili http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I have fixed the hand, well I think I have fixed the hand http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Update...now onto the wings http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
