GIMP does it, but their light effects feature is pretty glitchy, so... Is there some way of making a light effect in XaraLX? I want to make a light shine on some beveled text I have, if possible.

umm... can you show a picture of what you mean?
Here's a light effect I did in GIMP a while back. (As you can see, there's a glitchy vertical line down the lit up letters.)
Please can you add the picture as an attachment. If you're not sure how, read this thread
Done.
EDIT: ok I see it but its too small to see any detail.....
Can you not see that a portion of it is lit up? Mainly middle top? Directional light in GIMP.
EDIT: Looking at these responses, I'm guessing that there is no light feature in XaraLX.
No light feature as a tool. Like is done in Xara as you would with traditional paint. You want something lighter you use a lighter paint.
In Xara use a linear fill to do something similar to you gimp drawing.
A simple linear fill is used in the first attachment.
A multiple colour linear fill in the second attachment.
Duplicate the object you want to apply the light effect to, and change the colours to lighter shades/colour to the duplicate, and place it behind the darker object. Now apply an elliptical transparency to the top object. Adjust the profile and the type of the transparency to alter the effect.

Bob you eyes must be much better than mine.
I can see the type of effect YAOMTC is wanting, in your examples.
I used an elliptical fill on the background object and a multi-colour elliptical fill on the text.
Here's my take on the subject .xar file included.
Holy crap, you guys are good. Thanks a lot for the help!
con, it sure would be nice to use that as a template for the rest of my buttons, but that would be lazy. I will take a closer look at what you made, though, and emulate what you did with their advice.
To answer the original post, yes.
Saludos,
Bob.
