Layers appear on preview but not when published
I am changing my website and to do that I copied the site, made the changes (mostly deleting pages) and published it. I mistakenly removed a page which has layers.
Along the top of the page there are five dates which when clicked bring up a map of the layout of my village in that year plus some text. The page worked fine in the original site and also seems okay when I preview it in the new site but, having published it, all I have are the dates and nothing else. As well as the fact that the page doesn't work I have a problem in that when I try various things to get it to work I have to republish as the preview option keeps showing it as I should be not as it is(!). Can you help please?

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
It may just be down to caching.
Browser - use a different one to view your published site.
If it is fine then press Ctrl+F5 in your original browser , which should make it render properly.
Server-side - publish to a sub-folder.
If it is fine, check if your service provider or you is using any caching mechanism.
Deselect the caching, publish and reset caching; you may have a period while things percolate across the Internet.
If the latter, then push Xara to sort our their coding: https://www.talkgraphics.com/showthr...Xara-Resources.

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
I did try clearing the browser cache and also tried a browser I don't normally use but no luck. My website is hosted by Xara - are they likely to be using a caching mechanism?

Can you provide the link?
After that, I would expect to ask to have sight of your design file.

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
I have been stewing on this and decided to set the page up simply rather than with layers. What I have done is set out my maps and text on one page which was just about manageable with a bit of squeezing. I have set the images to enlarge when clicked but now for some reason they are not appearing as pop ups but opening completely up. Sorry, not explaining that very well but the map appears on a black background and I have to use the back arrow on my browser to get back to the page. Once again, everything is fine in the preview. It's really weird.
Not sure if it helps but this is my page:
http://www.wonershhistory.co.uk/village-development.htm
Sorry to be a pain but I've just noticed that the image on my home page which is supposed to enlarge as a pop up is also not working properly. To make matters worse there is a bit of text and a bit of extra picture at the bottom.
No idea what's going on with this. I have used pop ups quite a lot in the past without any problems.
Last edit
I had grouped the image and text box on my home page. I have now ungrouped them and extra text/extra image has gone. However, photo still doesn't open as a pop up.

Thans for the link.
I see the problem.
For some reason, the highslide.js file is missing from your site:
village-development.htm:18 GET http://www.wonershhistory.co.uk/inde...s/highslide.js net::ERR_ABORTED 404 (Not Found)
village-development.htm:22 GET http://www.wonershhistory.co.uk/index_htm_files/roe.js net::ERR_ABORTED 404 (Not Found)
village-development.htm:23 GET http://www.wonershhistory.co.uk/inde...MobileFonts.js net::ERR_ABORTED 404 (Not Found)
The other files above are also missing.
village-development.htm:24 GET http://www.wonershhistory.co.uk/index_htm_files/ani.css net::ERR_ABORTED 404 (Not Found)
The ani.css file is there but not being accessed properly.
I cannot see any malformed code as the calls to the larger pop-ups are in place.
It is therefore possible that it is (1) your Xara application or (2) the method of publishing into server.
(1) Export locally to a folder on your machine.
Check the files are missing.
Try Run as administrator on your Xara application and re-Export.
If they appear, re-Publish.
(2) Sign into Xara Hosting.
Go into Xara's Web Space and check the files are missing.
Look at the current situation: http://www.wonershhistory.co.uk/inde...s/xr_files.txt & http://www.wonershhistory.co.uk/sitemap.xml.
Advise back.

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
As suggested I exported to my desktop. I am assuming that when you say check the files are missing that you mean the page with the maps on?? If so, yes the page is there.
I ran Xara as administrator and exported again. Same thing - the maps are there.
I republished - no change.
Signed into Xara Hosting and the maps are there too.
The files in the index_htm_files are all jpg and png except for half a dozen css files. There are a lot of htm files loose (ie not in a folder).

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
Hi JFry I think to chase down your issue it would be best to attach a .xar file here. There's no need for the whole site. Just make a copy of your site and delete all pages apart from village-development page. Then attach it here.

Not quite, i wanted you to advise if the missing files were there after Run as administrator, there locally and there on publish. All the other HTM files seem fine. I was hoping to re-activate the pop-ups so we could work out what's gone adrift: you, your application or Xara Hosting.

Sorry, I’m afraid I don’t understand the difference between what I did and what you wanted. Annoying I know!
I exported locally twice, once as administrator and also published. Each time the pages were there.

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
Didn’t see you there! I’ll do that.

Not a problem. I know he pages will export and publish.
I needed you to go into the Export folder and open out the index_htm_files folder and in that are your pages' assets (images, styles, fonts, code).
We seem to be missing the following: highslide.js, roe.js, MobileFonts.js & ani.css.
That's what I'm looking into.

The site must be fixed because it works for me.

I ignored the export options for JPEG and PNG and chose 'Export'. I ended up with a file of what appear to be text boxes. I'm going to upload an extracted .xar file now.

I have tried to copy and paste the reduced .xar file but it does seem to work. Is there a special way to do it?

there is a 'go advanced' button on the bottom right of the reply window that you are typing in - click this - then scroll down and click 'manage attachments' - then use the 'add files' button to select your XAR file and upload it to the forum as an attachment [there is a 10MB file size limit]

Thank you. Having given up on the layered page my problem now is just down to pop up photographs popping out rather than up!! Strangely the street maps do work correctly, it's just the village development maps and photo on the home page.

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
no problem - hopefully egg/acorn or one of the other web oriented members will pick it up shortly

Check this version out.
1. Cut the offending maps from the page, placed them into a new doc, applied the image popup, copied and pasted them back to your doc.
2. Ungroup your homepage photo and text line, add the text into the popup title and set the option to display popup title.

I have tried your suggestion but still not working. The images when hovered over show a finger rather than a +magnifying glass.

OK let's see if this is what you are expecting to happen: https://initiostar.co.uk/demo/ztest/index.htm
You can download the XAR doc in my post and check that it works with your Xara.

Yes, HD was correct, I posted something incorrectly so I just wanted to a Mod to delete the post.
So you know your website works so it's either something you're doing incorrectly in the publish department or it's Magix hosting.
Just tried it on my Magix hosting and it publishes fine:

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
Afternoon Egg,
Not quite there yet - the three pages were just the sample from the main website http://www.wonershhistory.co.uk/. Acorn identified the problem yesterday back in the thread as related to HighSlide (which you can see when you inspect the doc).
My thoughts to get the whole site working as expected would be to save a copy of the doc (under a different name), delete the offending pages where the HighSlide popup is being used (that is the 3 pages in the sample), copy and paste the new pages from the reworked sample doc, make sure all the links work, retest and publish assuming all OK.

Yes, well ... When you say 'save a copy of the doc' do you mean take a copy of the design file? That I can do! I'm falling down on the 'new pages from the reworked sample doc' though.

1. I may cross-post with Egg here, but save a copy of your design file .web or .xar (with a different name).
2. Save the design file I provided earlier in this post and confirm it works as expected (that is just the three pages) -it should look like this: https://initiostar.co.uk/demo/ztest/index.htm - Please confirm.
3. If (2) works, delete the index page, and the other two pages in your new design file.
4. Open the sample design file I provided, copy each page and paste into your new design file.
5. Check/re-attach the replaced pages in the NavBar
If (2) fails, we have a different issue to resolve.

I opened your xar file and previewed the pages which were fine. I deleted my broken pages and copied/pasted yours which, as always seems to be the case, previewd as expected. I published and sadly ....
Do you have any more ideas?

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
OK so this time I am assuming the new (updated site) previewed as expected, which it did not on your original example posted here.
If true, can you try publishing to a separate/different folder on your server and let us see the results from that URL. I am assuming too you have cleared your browser history / used Control F5 to refresh the site? And that you are not using Cloudflare?
I'm around later this afternoon - the issue is fixable, just a process of elimination.

That worked!! http://wonershhistory.co.uk/Popups/index.htm
By the way, yes I did clear the cache and no I don't use Cloudflare.

Re: Layers appear on preview but not when published
OK - now we know your copy of Xara is working as expected, and you can correctly publish to your server. Leave that site uploaded for now.
1. Next: if you have an FTP program or Xara's hosting allows, you should be able to access the original problematic folder on Xara's server - if true, rename that folder (say) xxxxold and create a new folder with the original name.
2. From your working (updated) design file (same one you published to the popups folder) try publishing your updated site to your newly created folder.
I don't use Xara's hosting so I'm not sure what is possible or not, but I would be optimistic this will work.

I think the problem folder is the one called index_htm_files but I can't work out how to change its name.

Those files along with your pages.htm will be in a directory, one level up. e.g. in my case 'whitehart'
Attachment 128342
Without seeing the structure of Xara's hosting, I cannot see what else, if anything, sits in sub-directories below.
Having achieved a working site: http://wonershhistory.co.uk/Popups/v...evelopment.htm, it might be best to wait for Acorn or Egg who use Xara's hosting to advise.
@Acorn / @Egg - status is site working correctly now, but I am not familiar with Xara's hosting/directory structure.
