I was playing around with a shape from the shield collection available on the Xara Xone http://www.xaraxone.com/html/templates.html
My brother, sister-in-law and niece are now on their way back to the UK after spending 5 weeks here in Australia, two of them with us.
He purchased a LUMIX DMC-FZ5 camera for the holiday and made good use of it.
I found out that he is a collector of fridge magnets, so chose some of his photos and created 2 x A4 sheets of magnets for him to adorn his fridge with when they get back. (He might be setting off a few airport alarms though  )
The in-cam processing left some images in need of adjustment, typical were the exposure failings of brightly lit areas with shady areas that the human eye can easily adjust to. This is quickly dealt with in Xtreme using the following method.
Great edit Steve.
Sledger,
Excellent mini-tutorial. Although, I had to add Step 0 in order to try it out. ;)
Another handy technique to add to my photo editing arsenal. I know Xara Xtreme is a vector editor but I also use it for over 90% of my raster needs as well. XX4 is definitely one heck of a collection of 'Cool Tools'.
Thanks,
HayTay
Nice photo edit Steve.
Based on many comics from my youth with all those visual effects. I call this Splatz. :D
A cartoon from a recent project on healthy living.
An image for a company of remote control.
A poster I just did :)
Playing with 3d furniture..:) The perspective is not perfect though :(
I like the way the seats are suspended off the floor. Makes it a lot easier to clean underneath. (Yours sincerely A. Househusband)! :D
Saludos,
Bob.
I checked out ZEBtoonz web site, and did his drawing tutorial....and this is what came out. notice I copied his theme shamelessly
I am honored! :)
thanks for the help. I love your cartoons
I reworked this artwork for a blog called the field negro.
The site is a blog focussing on black-oriented issues and skewed heavily towards the liberal. So if any of these things offend you, don't go there.:p
You who know me may question the fact that I am not black. But the writing on the site is excellent and entertaining as well and I like to help out where possible. The author of the site has made me an "honorary field negro".
The term field negro, is not derrogatory but refers more to a hard working black person who is true to the cause.
The blue (a negative) photo was not my image. But I made the colors deeper and more intense. Also I cloned part of the left shoulder and appended it to the right shoulder to make the image more symetrical.
The font is VTPortableReminton and is from DaFont.com, a terrific resource for free and shareware fonts.
My black girlfriend laughed at one a asked if she could take back the work 'C**T!' and refer to herself and real hard working woman with all the layers and softness that that word actually really means. Gary, in Berlin Negro still sounds as those she'd be a slave. We'd both be offended if we both didn't have a sense of humour and were pretty open minded. I hope you take her retort in the same spirit.
You're really controversal these days Gary ... you should stick your sterogramme teapots posts.
As for the image itself. I find the font a little 90's for my taste.
Here's something I'm working on today.
Yeah I've not posted much lately but my dad died 6 weeks ago, so I've been sorting out his estate. Oh then my mum went into hospital ... I guess that sort of thing affects partners when one of them goes. BTW, don't offer sympathy I didn't really like them both, so to so would just be adding salt in the wounds - they used to merciously beat me as a child. Which is why I used to hide away in my room and draw.
Any way enjoy the start of my new art piece ;)
It's a work in progress ....
Will keep you updated.
Had a few moments to play today... So I made a mushy card for my lady...
Nicely done John. Between you and Derek we seem to have a "dying flowers" theme going, and yet they are beautiful.
I am especially awed by the vase. Clear glass, to me, is very hard to draw well. When drawing, I guess you have to think backward and plan where the shape isn't.
Mickie
John,
Is the flower and vase a drawing or a photo? I would have said a photo, but with some of you talented artists and Xara's power, it's getting very hard to tell.
I know you have bowed to criticism before, Gary, but please, don't do it again. The work is valid and worth showing to us all, your comments included.
Saludos,
Bob.
Interesting Gary
Wife of someone I knew spent two years as an 'honorary man' in a middle east country which for the sake of the quiet life I shall not name.
Without this diplomatic sleight of hand she would not have been allowed to sit behind the wheel of a car and drive, let alone actually work.
It was awhile ago now, but things have not changed that much...
Thanks Mickie and Keith!
I was inspired by Derek's dead flower menu and had a bit of time today. My wife had gotten a white rose from one of the ladies in the office, and she was ready to toss it since it was past it's prime, so I used it to practice my photography a bit. So... regretfully, the shot is not a drawing on a par with Derek.
Here is a zoomed in view of the flower itself...
Beautiful photo John.
Thank you very much Gary.
Just because something is a little past it's prime does not mean that it is ugly... :)
I wish more ladies would feel that way.
Just goes to show ... never assume.
Mickie
Too many sketches lately, nothing to be considered finished so I'm trying to change this trend. Hopefully this lady won't get burnt until the drawing gets finished :)
Elegant drawing Suvek - And fun animation.
Nice one Suvek! keep us updated on this one...
Too late for entry but just foolin' around with another logo.
That looks really neat Ron.
Looks impressive Ron.
What is it?
Sorry Ron, I don't get out much.
And what is the background image? Is it your wind instrument thingy?
Yes, a french horn.
Sometimes you chase an idea and the end result doesn't work :o
Here's one of them. I'm just not happy with it.
Why not, Eric? It looks really great to me! Nice job!
I go along with Ron, Egg. I can't see what you're seeing, anyway. Looks good from here.
In the Fake Logo Challenge, Steve posted a fake Logitech logo. I had never seen the original, but I found it on Google Images. On seeing it, I thought that it was unlikely to have been made with Xara. But, I thought, there's no reason why it can't be made using xara, so I did. Not perfect, but pretty close (.xar file attached).
Saludos,
Bob.
Egg that looks very good to me. What doesn't look the way you intended?
Bob very good likeness of the Logitech logo.
I agree with Bill, looks good to me just that piece placed in front of the house blends in a bit. Just out of curiosity have you tried plain white/grey version? It could look "clean and perfect" :D
Bob, its pretty close :) Adding little more depth to the greenish shape (darkening left edge) and youre there I guess
