Playing around with a tutorial on Moebius rings, trying to come up with a more simple way of creating the rings.
The result was modelled in Wings 3D and rendered in Vue 4 Pro. Some contrast and sharpening done in Photoshop.

Hi Paul, I gave the moebius ring shape a try.
Mine is not as cool as yours, I swept a rectangle around a circle with a 180 deg. twist. Then I merged the verts on the ends.

Hey good work Mike, what app did you use for this?
Paul, would you be willing to share the source of the tut for creating this in wings?
I just love following this ring around and around and around... hehe http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Gidgit - here's the original tutorial . I post mine as soon I have time to write it down.
Gidgit, I modeled with sweep nurbs in C4D.
Paul... thank you very much... I will have a boo and see what's what, and I look forward to your tut...http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif This is great stuff http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Mike... would you care to share your technique on this as well, maybe a mini tut for C4D ? ... for what ever reason I personaly put this object ahead of the "teapot" for classic 3d... it's just a really cool object http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Any questions?
Ok, here's my Wings tutorial: Clickety-Click (and now the images are linked correctly too)
Compaired to the original tutorial, in my tutorial I have another way of rotating the pieces: you only have to remember the 45' angle, and how to divide and multiply it by 2 http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
wow... wow wow... you guys are rock'n http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
This is great work by both of you guys- Mike, Paul... I really thank you two for taking the time to do up these tuts, and I hope that more than just one or two members here at TG will appreciate these as much as I do http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Later today I think I will sit down and attempt to build me one of these here fancy rings... Just awesome work guys [thumbs way high]
Nice work gentlemen http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
Paul,
brilliant idea and execution!
With Rhino the construction of a moebius ring is kind of simple - see below.
Hey good work Jens http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Always nice to see some different apps and methods applied http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Now then, how about going all the way you guys, rolling up those sleeves and taking a stab at modeling this shape through to a finished ring as Paul has done here... textured and rendered to look like it would be an actual piece of jewlery http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
anybody game?
Well ... I guess that answered THAT question ... nice work Mike!
THAT question... Haha, Ed, you kill me http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I seriously doubt that there are as many good tutorials online for creating Mobius Rings as there are to create say the human head...
and... I really doubt that there are many sites online which could boast tutorials on how to create this wonderful piece via utilizing such a variety of apps to do so... this thread has quickly become a fantastic resource for any and all...
Mike, right on... these rings are unique and wonderful... http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif any tips on how to create this manly looking gold finish? http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif [thumbs up ]
Keep em coming guys...
Gidgit, material is Zbrush noise bump. A fairly basic shader with noise and color bump. I used a single light with a high intensity but with a soft shadow. Lighting has a lot to do with how things look. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
