Occam's Razor?

If somebody had told me earlier today that I would draw
a cutthroat razor this afternoon, I wouldn't have believed them.
However, following a discussion with Steve J (handrawn) in the
March Scribble thread about the relative merits of the blend tool,
and its less complex relative the duplication tool, I thought I'd go for the joke.
No, I'm afraid I'm not following William Occam's discipline here, Steve,
the blend tool was easier for me in this case.
I still appear to be in my chrome period.:)
As a matter of interest, the font used here is Toledo.ttf (where the steel comes from!)

'Course - being the pedant that I am I would say that the principle is (in so many words) never to accept a complicated solution when a simple one will surfice - now a simple solution is not necessarily the same as an easy one - for example: Cigarettes ruining your health? There is a simple solution, but easy ah well - And vice versa, sometimes the easy way out of a situation can become oh so very complicated.... ;)

I've always appreciated simplicity and of course Occams famous principle suits me as well. However when all other things being equal, wouldn't the simplest solution be to grow a beard? :rolleyes:

It's definitely simpler. However, it is quite ironic that the design of the theory cannot be effectively explained using the basis of the theory itself:rolleyes:

The only way we can grasp the complexities of the universe is to find a simple explanation. Must have something to do with the ancestry of our simple minds.

Occams Razor is proof that most of us waste too much time 'over thinking'.
Perhaps it's too easy to assume that something, which we at first fail to comprehend, must be overwhelming in complexity - but how can we know this without first understanding it?
Often, at last we come to realise the answer was simple.. :)

Occam simply (sic) invented what we now refer to as the KISS principle ;)
