Why can't I change a circle size to a precise number? If I write 5 it changes it to something 'close to 5' like 4.98 :O

Why can't I change a circle size to a precise number? If I write 5 it changes it to something 'close to 5' like 4.98 :O
JimR
It is because of the line width. Set line width to none and retry.
I was trying to change the circle size with the circle tool (select the circle, then use the circle tool) and that doesn't seem to work properly but when I use the selector tool and change the size it works.
To make a circle of a specified size I have to draw the circle, then change to the selection tool and input the size, is this true or am I missing something?
JimR
Well you have to set the size of the ellipse after you've drawn it yes, but you don't need to change to the shape editor, simply enter the H/W in the fields on the info bar when the ellipse tool is still selected, then press enter.

That doesn't work for me, if I make a circle, then write 10 (mm) in both fields it changes to 9.2 mm (or something else close to 10 mm) :O
JimR
Hmm - works fine every time for me.
My option settings are all pretty much defaults.
Perhaps you could use XaReg (link in sig) to return your settings to default and try again?
This is how it works here:
► FULL SCREEN or DOWNLOAD 314k
It's dependant on whether you have Scale Line Width on or off.

JimR,
Make sure you have removed the stroke from your circle (or select none in the line width as Albacore suggested - does the same thing).
I'm sorry, removing the stroke doesn't help and the Scale Line Width doesn't either. It seems that only by using the diagonal option it works when I make a circle and change the size. My setup is pretty much default.

JimR,
hum... you are right. I can reproduce the strange behavior. It doesn´t have to do with the stroke or line width. Seems you have found a bug.
Jim,
As the Radius, Diameter or bounds creation buttons make no difference to the results of the manual input on my machine, however seeing your video makes me wonder about your language and units setup for Windows?
Just a hunch because none of the other suggestions (line width, line scaling etc) make any difference to this input field on my systems.
I have Danish language and units, do you really think that would be part of the issue?
We have two Xara Xtreme 5.1 installations here and the other installation works with diameter and bounds creation (but not with radius creation) while mine only work with bounds creation.
It looks like a bug to me, I have reported it to Xara.
regards
JimR
If it were a bug I'd expect it to act the same for each XX5.1 installation.
Are both machines similar hardware and running similar Windows versions?
PS: I liked the music playing with your MP4 in the earlier post. Who is that?
The machines are pretty much the same IBM Thinkpads running Windows XP, it is a little strange.
The music is my own, composed and recorded in my home studio. Jim Radmer on BandBase

Good stuff Jim, a variety of styles.
'Shadows of Ingman' reminds me of old Shadows stuff.
Yes, if both laptops are the same models running the same OS version then there's something odd going on causing XX5 to act differently on each.
Deleting the Xtreme Key in the Windows registry will cause Xtreme to rewrite the key and therefore reset back to factory defaults on first run.
If you're game you could try this as an experiment. (disclaimer: normal warnings apply)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\Xtreme
It has nothing to do with the registry settings--it's a bug. I reported it in 4.0, and they obviously never fixed it, even though it worked correctly in 3.0. Note that Jim's control points are not at 0, 90, 180... If you make your control points non-horizontal and non-vertical, you will see it for yourself.
(My ticket, HQH-725408, is marked 'Closed' and 'High-priority'--go figure.)
Thanks for putting light on the subject, we'll se what they do about it >:)

There, bug confirmed:
Hello,
I apologise for this, I have added this to the bug list and it should be fixed soon,
Unfortunately i do not have an ETA for the fix at this time, however when a patch or update is built it will be displayed on the xara website.
Many Thanks

Cheers for the update Jim. I always use the bounds creation set up so I've never come across this one.
Folks, when I am on page one of this thread I hear music playing. Is anyone else hearing this? I'm wondering where it's coming from. It was a bit of a shock to all of a sudden hear this, though it's very nice music.
Thanks,
Hi Ed,
I'm not sure how you have your pages setup. I have mine setup for 20 posts per page, not the default for vBulletin but was for the old InfoPop forum software used by Talkgraphics.
So your post is the last on my page one, and my post will be on page two.
I notice when I open this thread a notice shows up asking if I want to install the Quicktime plugin (which I never allow to install, terrible software in my opinion). The use of the MP4 video is the cause of the prompt for Quicktime, even though I have two other programs that are the defaults for that file type.
Perhaps your music is somehow related to the quicktime plugin.
The music comes from JimR's MP4 screen movie in post#9.
It his his own playing and composition, 'Shadows of Ingman'
For all those who dislike the invasive terrible Apple Quicktime (myself included), an alternative was developed many years ago which does not take over your computers.
It's called, QuickTime Alternative and can be found here.
I've used this for years, it's perfectly fine and solves the Apple issues.
I use the that too, I'm really tired of those big, bloated pieces of software that invades your machine, taking everything over and reminding you to upgrade every 15 minutes (or doing it without asking...) >:)
I can recommend Foxit PDF reader too, same thing really compared to the 'original'.
If there's a 'standard' here for video format I can easily follow that if you like, I see every kind of video format available here and I can do them all in Sony Vegas. I chose MP4 to get the smallest file with good quality.
JimR
FOXIT Reader user myself ;)
The only trouble with MP4 Jim is the player has no controls and will run/download as soon as a member opens the page. Adding MP4 recently has been a bit of an experiment, I'd rather use the JW Player which plays MP4 using a flash player (with controls), but it doesn't work with vBulletin attachment URLs.
However you can use the bbcode tag [WMV] and MP4 will still play for people with the latest Windows Media Player installed on thier machines..
I have edited your post#9 to use the Windows Media Player.
However, probably the better method for quick demos is .swf and use the [FLASH] bbcode to embed in your post.
Lengthier tutorial type videos are best suited to uploading to a youtube account then embedding here for which you use the [youtube] tag and video ID only.
Complete bbcode list
Note: The two last youtube bbcodes are now redundant since YouTube changed their own embedding code.
Err...I came here to read about circle sizes, not QuickTime and other software. Would it be possible to keep this thread on topic? >:) ;) :)
Saludos,
Bob.
Sorry Bob,
I thought there was a problem with the page and just wanted to clear it up in case it was a nuicance to others. The music is quite beautiful btw.
Hi Ed, I was only joking! :D
Saludos,
Bob.
Hi Grace, as mentioned in post#24 the Quicktime requesting post#9 has been changed to utilize the standard Windows Media Player browser plugin.
Hey Bob,
No problem at all....I like the tune.....just couldn't see where it was coming from and wanted to ensure there was no problem.
After looking again I can see where it happens so I'm happy.
This 'circle' bug is still present in 6. Grrrrr.....
Too bad, I was about to ask someone to check it :(
