Thanks for all your help Steve. It's sad you feel you have to stop being an administrator/moderator but I hope you will stick around.
I'm sorry that you feel the need to step down as moderator, Steve. I think you've done a bang-up job of the task and everything else that keeps TalkGraphics running smoothly. I feel that Magix, Xara, and TalkGraphics will lose quite a bit because of their recent decisions/actions that have caused several of the long standing TG moderators to denounce their positions.
It's good to hear that you'll be sticking around, though. It'll be great to see you start posting some new drawings done using Xara Xtreme and/or Xara Designer 'Whatever It Is' again (maybe?). After all, you'll have a lot more time on your hands for drawing and photography. ;) :D
You have my respect and thanks for all you've done,
Harry
Hi Steve,
I´m sorry and very sad to hear that you will stoping as moderator on TG, and i´m happy to know that you are still here too.
Just want to say many many thanks to you for all your help on TG.
Best Regards BP
Steve your knowledge of Xara product and help on these forums is invaluable, whatever else happens many thanks from me for sharing this
In the past, when we had our differences, you said to me on more than one occasion that the forum is more important than any one individual member
That said the strength of the forum lies in its regular participants and their willingness to help and share, so its great that an expert like yourself stays on as a 'regular guy' :)
I'm only an ordinary member and I know not what goes on behind the scenes, but it would appear TG is in a state of flux at least in terms of Moderation. Obviously Moderation is needed and it is a big commitment, and a likely a burden, on boards such as these.
Independence is often one of the first things to go when something is successful, especially if funding comes from elsewhere [and if money is tight]
You done a good job; be proud :-bd
Hi Steve,
There was no reference for this thread other than seeing you are now a 'Regular Guy'. That being the case I hope you're staying on to at least guide us with your tremendous wealth of knowledge.
Obviously only you and Xara/Magix know the inside scoop so whatever it is, I hope all is well with you.
I just want to add my 2 cents of thanking you so much for the tremendous amount of learning you have provided me and countless others on this forum and that you may have enough time now to do more of that without having to worry about moderating too.
Again, many thanks Mr. Ledger.:-bd:salute::salute::salute::star
Steve,
Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into this forum and for the huge volume of useful information that you have imparted and all that helpful advice that you have so readily given.
I never could understand how you managed to find time for it all. What will you be doing now to fill the vacuum?
The link in post #1 to Steve's announcement is now dead. Make of that what you will. In his post, for those who didn't see, Steve says the main reason for his stepping down is that Talkgraphics was an independent forum, though paid for by Xara/Magix. He will be participating as an ordinary member - if the word "ordinary" can be applied to the wealth and breadth of knowledge and insight he displays :D
Well, it certainly didn't take long for that link to be killed. You're right about the depth and breadth of knowledge that Steve brings to the table and how accurately and unselfishly he supports all in his answers/replies.
I think Frances signature says it all quite accurately. I also wish that TalkGraphics was like it used to be.
Somebody obviously does not realize what they have here or these changes would not be forced upon people by having great moderators fall by the wayside the way they are, either by choice or by being told they are no longer welcome to guide people.
To me this smacks of top down (as in company) totalitarianism type government. That type of thinking will eventually kill this forum, no matter how much good users want it to stay alive....
That would be a shame and this direction should make those directing it feel ashamed of themselves in my not so humble opinion.
There is definitely a huge atmosphere change here at TG and it's not for the better.
Just my 2 cents worth...for whatever that's worth......
I smell brinkmanship
you know there is a lot of leading by the nose going on here - I have seen disputes over editorial freedom and artistic expression come and go - it's only my gut feeling but this dispute seems to me just a bit precious on the part of some
Just my 2 cents worth...for whatever that's worth......[/QUOTE]
That would probably be about 2 cents then Ed. ;))
Well, this is all very disturbing, not to mention distressing. I have deliberately held back from commenting on the whole subject of moderation these past weeks, for fear of being too forthright in my comments. But I must say I agree with the above comments regarding Steve's decision to stand down, he will be sorely missed in that capacity, but it's reassuring to know that He still walks among us.
I believe Xara/Magix ought to think long and hard about what has caused these level-headed and responsible regular guys to consider quitting their valuable duties and to use their discretion to restore some sense of proportion at Talkgraphics. Unfortunately it looks to me that it could very well all end in tears.
Regards,
Bob.
EDIT: I just noticed that Steve J has reached a considerable milestone for a mere regular contributor. Congratulations on 7,500 posts, Steve. =D>
Thanks Bob - now you gone done an' made me increase the count by one and there was I hoping to retire, ah well, maybe at 10,000
Yes it's disturbing
What I find disturbing most is a level of naivety in certain quarters [not you of course my world weary friend :)]
Ah well - enough said here from me.... lest I go way off topic, should there be any moderators around still....
This is a sad day for Talkgraphics. Steve, I wish it hadn't come to this but I'm glad you will be sticking around as a "regular guy"
I wish the announcement hadn't been deleted.
Whether we are talking about the independence of members to post what they want to post or the independence of the moderators to moderate without interference from above, this has never been an independent forum, much as some people might believe in that Utopian ideal. As long as everything trickles along smoothly the forum will look independent, but if you step out of line you will suffer the consequences. And the bottom line around here belongs to Xara.
The thing is, that has never been a problem to me. I love Xara's products. That's not say they're perfect, but they are bloody good, and at a reasonable, competitive price, so I'm happy to sing Xara's praises all day long and have done so for over 10 years. That's why I come here, to talk about Xara's products, to exchange ideas about them, to learn from others and hopefully to impart a little of what I have learnt as well. Maybe that's why Steve's not leaving this forum, because I believe he's as hooked on Xara products as I am. For the benefit of Talkgraphics I'm glad he's not leaving the forum - I honestly don't think there's any non-Xara member who knows more about the products than he does.
Reply as you see fit. Whoosh... I'm moving on.
Frank you put that so well you tempt me back
Xara's phrase is 'independent forums moderated by volunteers from the Xara community'
Steve then went on to talk about being truely independent from 'external control and constraint'
It was never this - and this is just not on in the real world
For newbies, 3 and a bit years ago our administrator was one AntonyF, and he of course was employed by... you guessed it, Xara

This is going to be my last post on TG for a few days. I've grown very tired of the politics and such that have crept up on here. We have now lost 3 moderators who gave freely of their time. And while they will still participate as regular members from time to time their resignations as moderators are still a loss.
When I return I hope that I'll find TG at peace.
To Steve, Bill, and Egg : Thank you for the time you gave as moderators here on TG.
Very sad news indeed!
Thanks Bill, Egg, and Steve for your time and wisdom you have bestowed upon us. It was invaluable to us AND Xara. Glad to hear you will be still around.
I fully concur with this sentiment. Though you good folks are still with us, unfortunately for us, you will not be able to shape the direction the forum goes. That is a lost gift from very experienced professionals in my opinion (worth 2 cents as I'm told - thanks Bob).
I thank all of you for the gifts you've bestowed on us and the great job you did in directing traffic for us when needed. Many decisions would not have been very welcome by some but you kept order and atmosphere and deserve high commendation and praise from all.
A BIG THANK YOU!!! :star:salute::-bd:salute::star
Steve was a very dedicated moderator, knows the Xara products top bottom, was very, very quick to reply to any request and always willing to help.
He has done an amazing job here at Talkgraphics and will be hard to fill the gap.
It was his decision and i´m sure there´s a good reason behind it.
Thanks Steve for you hard work.
Steve I just heard the sad news. I will miss you as a moderator but I'm glad you are sticking around as a member. Your help to me has been invaluable, you are so knowledgeable and talented in so many areas. Thank you.
No one has contributed more to this site, and this included all of the forums, than Steve Ledger (sledger). I don't think anybody can even begin to count the number of people (myself included) that Steve has helped over his time as head moderator. His knowledge of Xara products as well as of outside resources has always astounded me. I have used Xara since 1995 or 96 when it was first introduced at Rick Altman's Corel User Conference in Dallas by Corel's director of marketing. Those of us who saw the demonstration were blown away. I still do not understand nearly half the things that Steve has demonstrated Xara can do.
Steve had to make a hard decision which I am only now finding out about. I have made a pledge to try to spend more time away from the computer and have been out all day trying to have a life. :D I extend my deep felt thanks for all the help, support and friendship Steve has provided to this forum. He has left a vacuum that will be nearly impossible to fill.
Thanks, Steve for all you have done and for all the time you have selflessly given to this community.
Steve,
I'm sorry that you had to make this decision. I know that it must have been hard for you.
Thank you for all of your help to me, and thank you for the countless hours of your time that you have devoted to these forums.
I'm very happy that you have decided to stick around.
Best Wishes.
Sorry to see you go, Steve. I've been mostly lurking this forum the past time, but I've seen you contribute a huge amount to TG.
It's your decision and I respect it. I hope you'll stick around as a regular member.
I just read this sad news today :( Thank you Steve, Bill and Egg for all your help to me and everyone of us and for all your hard work and time.
I would like to agree with the sentiment that Gary gave in a post prior to this. Yes moderators and people will come and go but to loose two like Bill and Steve in a few weeks is a HUGE loss. I have work to be done every day and can't afford the time like Steve spent on this forum and its this forums loss because of the time he spent doing his own work helping people here, it is a big loss.
Really sorry you decided to quit as a Moderator Steve and rather dumbfounded as to why if it's nothing to do with overcommitting yourself on the forums. I rather thought the forums had a very positive feel in recent weeks.
I'm sure you'll stick around. For a moment reading the messages here I thought you might have passed away. Glad it's not so!
Maybe a time-out will bring a new perspective.
Thank you all for the warm fuzzies :)
If anyone has been trying to send me a PM over the last couple of days, chances are I didn't receive it.
This is because as a regular member my in/outbox is limited to 250 messages. As Admin there are no limits so I had many more than this stored meaning my PM quota was now exceeded by over 800%
I've emptied my PM store, so all should be fine now.
Apologies to anyone who felt I must be ignoring them :(
Steve, I've got to say I don't think any of us are ever really going to think of you as a "regular guy" I still keep hoping I'll wake up and find it was just a bad dream :D
See you on the dark side regular guy!!>:)
hey Steve, glad that you will still be here to help myself and other users to your vast knowledge and helpfulness. You, Bill and Egg made learning XaraXtreme a joy. I'm sorry to learn that you are no longer a moderator but happy you are still a valuable member of the community.
Cheers for the support Nancy.. :)
Nice to see you back at TG
hey, welcome to the "Regular Guy" side of things Steve... lol...
