i hope some dedicated artist will take over this fourm to a higher level
i am really disappointed
Anyway, soon i will post a comparison between Adobe and PP, and try to show the weakness and strenght of each ( to the best of my knolwge)
i am working on it
suggestion: if we don't have any greative idea's to post a tutorials, then why not take any of the tutorials in the web for PhotoShope and see how can we achieve the same resullts in PP
i will start with myself soon

Hey AJ and cheryl,
Im pretty new to this group and a photopain entusiast. I keep on trying to find an active group about pp but they dont seem to exist. So we should try to give this group a kick.
Im always trying to tell people that pp is better than photoshop. Or at least just as good. Im planing on doing tutorial to show how to do ps stuff in pp.
Hope to see some tuts of yours soon.
btw verry nice picture cheryl!

Hi Kai,
Thanks for comment on my picture. I have become frustrated converting photoshop tuts to photo-paint so I will be very happy when you post yours.
We sure need more of them.
Best,
Cheryl

Hi Folks, I love pushin pixels, I made these images with Photopaint 7, They are a bit out dated and don't represent what I have been doing lately, You may have seen them before. I still use PhotoPaint 7, I got Photoshop 6 a short time ago, I have started a few paintings with PS6, I like it but I like Photo paint too.
I think various programs have things they do best, I'm not a purist and I will bounce an image to and from different programs in an attempt to achieve what I consider satisfactory results. Sometimes I just have to say that is enough and leave it as is, as is the case with the examples I am posting.
When comparing PP7 and PS6 there isn't a lot of things that I know about that I can do with one that I can't do with the other, but I don't know a whole lot about anything, I will just push the pixels until it looks right to me. I think PS6 has some effects that work better than PP7, I like some of the tools PP7 has better than PS6. Its just a personal preference thingy I think, I will also toss in vector art and 3d art, what ever is the easiest way to get the results I want. More of my work gets deleted than saved. Its just fun trying to make something happen!
As old as some of my software is I still learn new things about it every time I play around with it.
I don't know what version Of Photopaint you are using but if there is something I could help you with when comparing peaches to apples feel free to ask, I'll do my best and try to figure it out, If I can't I'm sure someone else can.
Best wishes,
Mike Bailey

Thought I would include this, it is a simple beach scene, I have painted it many times with an air brush on "T" shirts, add some clouds, lettering, etc... it used to be a hot seller. It demonstrates how I paint with PhotoPaint, The most important stroke to master is called a Dagger or rat tail stroke when executed with an air brush, to do it with Photopaint, just lay down a spot of color with the paint brush, grab the smudge tool and pull it into the dagger stroke. Try it you might like it. This simple painting took about 10 minutes to complete.
Have fun

Hi AjIscoool and others,
CorelDraw (PhotoPaint) has been my favorite program for many years. I started with CD4 and now use CD7 too. Every time I was considering an upgrade all the talk about "slow, buggy, bad GUI, etc. put me off and CD7 is really very nice.
I'm actually considering DC10 again but I hear it doesn't come with a hardcopy manual?
I have forced myself into using XaraX almost exclusively for the past several (8 or 9) months because of all the wonderful things it can do, the ease of use, my interest in animation with Flash like programs and the difficulty I had with the CorelDraw vector tools.
It still isn't second nature to me (I'm old) but I have found drawing in PhotoPaint THEN importing the bitmap into Xara has freed me up a bit.
Whew! Anyway, I have posted this bitmap I recently drew with that approach in mind.
Glad to see this forum being used again.

I am an avid user of both PhotoPaint 10 and XaraX and am doing a "mixed bag" digital painting using both.
I have gotten most, if not all of the 'painting' done in PhotoPaint and now am adding vector objects to it.
So I am very open to opinions, this is a large file, it has been reduced as far down as I dare go.
One aspect I DO NOT like is the hair. The color is good, I like that just fine. But, and me being a hairdresser, can not believe how bad the front curl/wave around the face came out. Wish there was a quick fix to that. I was thinking of trying to do a vector overlay in XaraX, but I would rather fix it the right way.
It's for my mom. I call "Mom's Angel". The background is XaraX, the angel is entirely done in PhotoPaint except for the halo.

Hello all,
I don't have Photo Paint, but I sure enjoy looking at all the art work in TalkGraphics. Ramwolff you did it again. I sure like your Angel. You don't need to make excuses about the hair. I like it just the way it is. George Troy

but I still think it could be better.
Mr. Mike Bailey, you do amazing work in PhotoPaint. I would love it if you would comment and recommend what ever you can to help me out here and any other areas that you think would be helpful. I also am aware that Michael C. is a moderator here but I see him VERY present in the Corel newsgroup, but not much here.
Thanks very much

Ramwolff:
Do a SEARCH called “I hate doing hair” and look in ‘The Xara Gallery” . In that thread look for a post by David Zubrowski he lists “Hair 1” and “Hair 2” some good stuff there that might help.
Seems you like CD10 have you used any other version of CD and how do they compare?

Thanks so much for the lead
There is NO comparison to Corel PhotoPaint 8 to 10. PP10 is buggy, slow and clunky. Just go to the newsgroup: corel.graphic_apps.photo-paint10 and puruse through the posts. Even Michael Cervantes agrees that this version is not the cream of the crop. It's a shame, for all the new features and whatnot they managed to make very unstable. Mine runs OK, and I have to admit that it is not as buggy as I have found XaraX to be, the brushes tool is a nightmare for me to use, so I don't use it and it's a shame, I love my furry critters and ALL the fur type brushes cause XaraX to crash in a stack fault exception every time. PhotoPaint just warns you when things get unstable and at least allows you to save your work and restart the program. PP8 did not give me ANY problems like that at all, but less features. So it's a toss up. Stablity vs features, 10 or 8.........I choose 10 (as I have chosen to stick with XaraX compared to CorelXara)
So I am hoping that CD11 and XaraX 2, or whatever it will be named, will both have these bugs ironed out.
Thanks so much, again.

I visit time to time, but this group is not very active.
RAMWolf, the problem with PP10 is that Corel rushed publishing it because stock market, and Corel financial situation. It could be better than Shop. A little polish and it will be ready. I hope they implement new tools, and polish it for version 11.
Shop version 7 didn't change much, so PP11 has the opportunity to make it better. PP10 does some things better than Shop, but still Shop is the best image editor in the market.
After SP2 XP runs PP10 pretty good. Not perfect, because still it has many bugs, but better.
Best regards

Mike,
I really like your chinese dragon. Is there a way to make the scales as a group instead of one by one?
RamWolff,
Your angel is lovely. I especially like the hands, feet, and wings. I think her feet need to be centered under her body more though.
I use Photopaint 9,draw 10,illustrator 10, Painter 6. So much to learn so little time.

Hi RAMWolff, Your Angel is wonderful, its nice to see some folks taking interest in this forum.
This might give you some ideas, attached is an example of how I combine programs. I used Poser, xara and photopaint to render the model, I think it illustrates effective rendering of hair and cloth.
I will explain step by step the techniques if your interested, but I would have to start from scratch.
Hello Cheryl, Glad you like the dragon, scales? yes I would do them with a vector grouping, I have experimented with various ways to do them, one way I find effective is to draw a crisscrossing pattern of lines that fit the shape, add some color and smudge each one slightly, this kinda gives the illusion of scales, Then I can spend a great deal of time perfecting them. If you look closely at the second dragons foot you might see some this. I could have carried it through out the dragon but I got bored and never finished it.:)
This thread is getting long, time to be continued with a new thread

So with my request to have you do a tutorial on hair and cloth in PhotoPaint maybe you could start the new thread with that
I don't use poser, but I love the realistic model it rendered. Expensive isn't it???
I actually spent the morning repotting plants and reworking this 'hair problem', end result, hopfully happier plants and, I think, an improved upon face and hair on the Moms Angel project. I reworked the eyes, lips and eyebrows, hence the mentioning of the face AND hair
Tell me what you think.........
Thanks so much. I can't believe this forum isn't used more. I think TalkGraphics is the 'cats meow' of graphics forums out there on the web.

Thnak you guys for activating this forum
it is "BORN AGAIN"
I liked the pics, but this is not what i am after, or hope for
I wanted to show the nice features that PhotoPaint has
by giving small tut, hints& tips, or how to
Soon i will post one
Note: i think that Corel 9 with sp 2 is the best and surely it is more stable than corel 10
I am glad to know you are here Michael Cervantes
and i need a favor,
Can you tell me how to become a member in corel newsgroups, now i only can view but without posting my own, i have an outlook error message
is there is any hints i can have to fix this
I have a lot to share and idea's to give
Thanks for everyone posted a message

I am alost done with my small tut for PP
but how can i psot my pictures then my explanation text then another pic then my explanation text then ....etc In This Forum
or i have to save the whole thing as JPG
thanks
-
Hi AjIsCoool, I was able to float all the images to create the visual part then I just added floating text to under the images, put them all in place then exported the whole thing as a .JPG.
I'm sure you can do something similar in PP. Not sure exactly how, but I'm sure it's a similar principal. I am working my way through Corel PhotoPaint 10: The Official Guide by Dave Huss and I'm not quite to that area yet. Only to page 80. I understand enough to do that Angel and export her and all that, and I understand how to create an image that 'floats' and import them in, but I know nothing of text and it's properties.
Maybe Michael C. or Mike Bailey can lend a hand here???
Look forward to the Tut.

Hi Folks, You can post your tutorial with multiple messages. Just start the first instruction, add an attachment( the image you want) then repeat the process until it is complete. Note: If you are posting a lot of pictures you might want to lock the thread, then continue a new thread that is referenced by the subject title to your tutorial, that way it doesn't get full of messages and people can still post questions and comments about it. Something like (How to make hair continued).
RAMWolf, I am putting (A how to do hair and a thousand other things) together, I think your gonna have fun with it, Its gonna push ya into a new realm with photopaint bud! Ya just gotta play around and see. Part one is easy and fun with dagger strokes

Hi,
I'm new to this group and have noticed a lot of people posting very excellent graphics of their work in PhotoPaint.
I also noticed a number asking for tutorials on PhotoPaint.
I've been teaching Draw for a few years and plug PP as much as I can, though it's not officially part of the classroom content.
Because of that, I would introduce students to the program then direct them to my site section devoted to PP exercises. I teach Photoshop also and so made cross-compatible certain exercises I go through with the PS students (derived from Scott Kelby's DDT).
There's no site, per se, just a directory to click on to go to the files; no popups, no request for anything.
http://www.cliffatwork.com/pp10/
My only personal request is that no one post this address on any site or newsgroup. I've been very quiet about it because I have a small ISP and have tried to devote the bandwidth to students only. But my own work as an instructor is coming to a close, so I thought a relatively small group such as we have here (apparently) might find use for them.

AND WELCOME to the forum..........
A suggestion, why not spend a little time reformating the How-To's and post them here. If your ISP is too small and you start getting bogged down that won't be very good. If they aren't to huge then I'm sure it would all be welcome and needed. This forum needs a shot in the arm, BIG TIME!!
I just put out a notice on the Corel newsgroup for PhotoPaint10 about this place. I use XaraX on a regular basis and wouldn't have gotten as far with out the wonderful folks in the that forum.
The Talk Graphics forums are the best thing to come along.......well.....in a long time
So think about it. If you want, puruse through some of the posts over in the XaraX forum and take a look at some of the layouts for the mini tutorials. It may give you an idea or 2 how you should attempt to bring your stuff here.
Make sure you copyright any finished images, if there are any to illustrate how something should look finished. We would love to see you work.
I would love to be able to spend as much time here as I do in the XaraX forum. Both these apps are important for my building a digital works portfolio, so I NEED to learn and learn quickly.
Thanks for listening.

I appreciate your suggestion but several of the files run between 3500/4500 words and so I think that would be a little much to transfer. I'm sure once you look at a few you will see for yourself what I mean.

Enjoyed the browse and plan on making some use of the tutorials. I actaully printed out the Cartoon one, only 4 pages, not bad.
One thing I wanted to bring to your attention. The second link to 'Console' causes the browser (I.E. 5.5 on a Win2000 SP2, 520 RAM system) to crash. But just that extra window for some reason. The primary window that is still on Talk Graphics stays up fine. So I am a little confused. Broken link of some sort or something else. All the other tutorial links open and load just fine.
Thanks again for sharing.
RAMWolff

Sorry to hear you couldn't gain access to the page. I don't know what it could be as there is nothing on the page along the lines of javascript or such. Just plain ol' html and *.jpg/*.gifs; the occasional *.png sneaks in but nothing to deserve a crash.
