I think as long as you avoid more than one Birthday a year, you should be fine; unless you are The Queen.

Ahem :)
Unless you sign up to Design Cuts within a week of this posting date (7 September 2018), you will miss out on Joyful, a hand script typeface with some brushstrokes within the glyphs to add a little photorealism.

The perennial unthankful creep must barge on for a moment:
☂ Design Cuts and several other sister media companies offer free fonts weekly. But often, they are handwriting fonts. Other headline-style fonts pop up, and I think it's worth your time to bop over there once and week and see what's free. Or inexpensive. They offer nice textures regularly, for designers to use in XDP.
☂ Handwriting fonts are large in file size. Fonts that, say, are over 100K, you load enough of them, and your system, and especially Xara, will slow down noticeably. And this is advice from 2018, when many of us have TB drives and gigs of ram, and a new Intel processor.
I'll be back nest week with some more free fonts that I think are worth downloading for a Nice Price.

Here's a font that' sans serif and shaded
Bertha-a five font pack
Attachment 122200
Regular, Light, Iralic and Bold, plus a second font you apply to a duplicate of your text to add the lined drop-shadow.
This looks to be a good font for "old-time" packaging, eg. Monsieur Tutulage's Snake Oil.

Thanks, Gary.
Did you draw the popcorn?
If so, what was your technique?

Sorry to say, no, is not my work, Ron. There's a place online called PixelSquid, and they offer that an exceptionally large, diverse catalog of photorealistic rendered models, from just about any angle.

They are not free. But there are severla that they let you have for free, a limited scope—fair enough.
I just got to taking screen snags at same size and then using them as signatures here.
I think if I can find a model I think they'd show, it might be worth a buck or two. In the meanwhile, I can appreciate someone else's work. Nice lighting and textures, I must say. When I first discovered this place, I'd swear this was photography!

I'm trying to enter Cree Syllabics into Photo and Graphics editor and it appears as boxes... Anyone have any ideas ?
-
Re: Professionally curated and design-worthy free fonts on the web
I think you will need to either reconfigure your keyboard to enter the characters, or use a combination of keys per character on a querty setup..

I switched to the Cree keyboard and it still comes up as boxes in Xara (it works in LibreOffice). Is there a setting that I need to change in Xara ?

Re: Professionally curated and design-worthy free fonts on the web
if it works in other programs but nor xara then I guess you need a real expert in xara fonts like Gare to come along - all I know is that xara does not [always] play well with extended character sets

If the glyphs appear in one program, and not in Xara, well...
the answer is academic.
Well, I could take the glyphs out of the existing typeface and force it to word in Xara. No big magic trick: FontLab and or Font Forge.
bjcrus.ttf, correct?
Because Xara cannot/won't give access to characters over 256 in Latin ISO, I will have to build you a new font.
If that's not what you can work with, I'm stumped.
A few hours of work ahead (damn, I do love a challenge:)!), but if the answer is "yes", I should have a new non-Cyrillic font by tomorrow.
Snagged it and set it up in FL.

Very cool !
Would be very grateful if you could do that... I'm working on a project for a Sovereign clan mother of the Eagle Clan... sort of like what queen Elizabeth is pretending to be - but this lady is the real deal.
She will be very grateful too

Re: Professionally curated and design-worthy free fonts on the web
In fact - I will give you a credit in every passport I print for her clan members... these passports will be receiving international press, because what we are doing has never been done (as far as I know)

The version of Cree sylabics we need is the one that's in this dictionary that SiPhiKo sent me...
http://www.creedictionary.com/
I have a feeling that, if you can pull this off, you will receive recognition in high places.

Hi Toby—
First of all, I removed your email address from your post. We have SO many spammers to weed out daily, I did not want you to volunteer as another target!
Generally, a spammer is banned within a few minutes, but it's that time in-between, you know?
I'll write to you soon. It's a good idea to stay on topic on this thead about free fonts.
This sounds like an exciting project!
I used to do free fonts for the tg membership when Xara Xone was an active concern.

I don't know why this typeface is called College Stencil, but it's free on Behance, and there appears to be all the characters and numbers, although no punctuation glyphs in this free version.
I think with its minimalist rendering of a Didot-style font (where the thin parts of a Roman font go from 12 to 6 o'clock), it's a good font for creating a logo for a fancy product.

Re: Professionally curated and design-worthy free fonts on the web
Hi Gary,
I have been trying to detective my way to finding the originator and license for the Russel Write TT font. It appears to already be installed on my system either via Xara or CorelDraw, and several sites have it listed as "unknown" and "free," while other have it listed as "donationware" and have you as the author.
I am considering using the font in a commercial video game app I'm creating, both as the main font and as a basis for building some illuminated woodblock-style lettering. Can you clarify the terms of use for me please?
Thanks kindly,
JJ

Re: Professionally curated and design-worthy free fonts on the web
I'm flattered.
It came with CorelDRAW. because I show how to create a version of it in one of the CorelDRAW guides from the 1990s.
Glad you contacted me, because the font is NOT free, and some of these "scrapeware" sites usey typefaces without telling and without my permission.
That id, the Donationware version requires no payment to me, but Barbara (our Administrator and spouse) and I would like you to pass along some good Karma for the price of my work.
God a few bucks—the size of the gift is up to you and your conscience—to:
❤ Doctors without Borders
❤ Any relief fund for the Untied States, because some people don't believe in Climate Change and we're getting hurricanes like never before, flooding, and our local temperature has been so bzarre for the past five ars, we were't able to grow and apples on our trees, nor blackberries.
❤ Or Goodwill.
☒ We used to encourage donations to Th Salvation Army, but their CEO now makes ˝ mill/yr.
❤Give a sandwich to a homeless person. Give therm deposit cans or bottle you'd otherwise throw out.
❤Help an elderly person up the stairs or onto a bus.
_______________________________________________
I have a version2.0, but its commercial, not free.
Stick to the Donationware version.
My Best,
Gary

Good Karma be with you, always!
The Karma doesn't come from me, though. I'm just the messenger.
The people whose life you touch are a reflection of how the Universe feels about you.
Too cosmic, huh?
